I don't care what people say, this is a seriously underrated and really good movie. I like this just as much as Pitch Black, if not more.

yea i like both but this was by far the best in my eyes it added so much depth to the franchise as far as lore is concerned.

Your not using underrated correctly. It's rated very accurately, most point out the poor writing and cliches. You just like it more than most

Vin Diesel finest, Riddick is such iconic character ... "you are not afraid of the dark, are you... the light, hurts my eyes"

To be fair, this was a period were everybody was trying to drop a new anthology univers, one of those that are still milked nowadays. IMO, Riddick could have been one of them. Unfortunately, this was not as digest as LOTR or Star Wars, and people overlooked it for a while before it became cult. Very underrated movies

Watched this as a kid and is one of my favourite childhood movies. Wish they had continued this story line in Riddick 3, but instead we got something similar to Pitch Black (Riddick part 1).

I agree,the director's cut is way better, it's give more to the story and fills gaps that I had a about some of the events like why did the purifier willingly commit suicide but now I know why

I LOVE Riddic!

Must've watched this movie at least 10 times and never really understood what was going on. Still liked it though.

There are a race of people called Furyans on a planet called Furya. A warrior gets a prophecy that a Furyan male is going to be his end. The warrior takes his men, sieges the entire planet and genocides all males, including babies. Somehow a few survive, one of them being Riddick. 25 years later, we get to the movie Pitch Black, which comes before this one. This movie is a sequel to Pitch Black. In Pitch Black, Riddick is being transported by some mercenaries to collect a bounty on him. On the ship there are also a few other passengers travelling to their destinations - can't remember all of them. Amongst those people are Imam, who will later become Riddick's friend and see dies in this film, and Jack, the girl who also dies at the end. The ship crashes on a planet that experiences an eclipse every 22 years. During the eclipse, some creatures that have been hibernating emerge from ground. The whole film revolves around Riddick leading the crew to escape the planet while surviving the creatures. Only 3 people escape the planet iirc: Riddick, Imam and Jack. From the conversation in this film, Jack grew closer to Riddick and began thinking of him as a bigger brother, but he had to leave her for her own safety as mercenaries would always come for him to collect a bounty on his head. It seems the only man who knew where he was headed was his friend, Imam. The Imam hears of the prophecy and arranged with the air elemental chick (old woman) to find him using mercenaries. This is why Riddick was pissed at him at first. Anyway , they want him to fulfill the prophecy and kill the warrior, who is now Lord Marshall and the leader of the Necromongers. Of course Riddick doesn't know the identity of the warrior, neither does he care about the prophecy. In the Necromongers religion, you keep what you kill, meaning anyone who kills another will inherit his property and title. This is why Vaako and his Wife, Dame, conspire to kill the Lord Marshal, so Vaako can take his place. The Necromongers attack New Mecca as part of their intergalactic conquering campaign and Imam dies in the process. Riddick goes to the Necromongers and kills his friend's killer. This leads to him being taken for his memory to be scanned and he's found out to be a Furian. Finding this out, the Lord Marshal gets scared as the prophecy could still come to pass. This why he wants Riddick dead. Anyway, at some point in the film, through a vision, Riddick finds out the warrior who massacred his people is The Lord Marshal. The film goes as it does and Riddick ends up killing the Lord Marshal, fulfilling the prophecy and also taking his place. This is why everyone bows down to him at the end, because he's now their new ruler. Didn't want to type a lot but still ended up doing do. I hope this summary makes things a but clearer.

tragic story about riddick, i only know how he feeling now, everyone dies on his arms while everyone else cares nothing about him, its about status and place while riddick mourns of everyone died in tragic of his failure to save anyone ...its pain he been living through this as child, that he witness death first time ...witness his mother and his people demise as small child as helpless...same for last movie...he get emotion attach to his pet ...dies right front of him, at the end he is tired of killing anymore

I wonder what made Riddick fall off it was so full of potential but they couldn't keep that energy going afterwards.

The 4th movie has been under development for some time, but they haven't started filming yet. Vin Diesel posted about the movie not too long ago and the director has mentioned that they are working on the project

This was a great movie but the sequel to this tried to copy Pitch Black again throwing away most of the progression story with the Necromongers and kinda ruined it

this is a different story to the one i saw

It was underrated but not. In a way the pitch black series launched vin's career. I really enjoyed both films. A reboot wouldn't hurt.

Interesting how fame and popularity work out. Pitch Black was mostly for Claudia Black, until she got shafted. Riddick wasn't the main protagonist, just the survivor. But by this movie, Claudia had been forgotten and Vjn Diesel was popular.
