The Boyfriend | "Blood is Thicker: The Hargan Family Killings" | "48 Hours" Podcast
Pamela Hargan lived in a wealthy Virginia suburb, surrounded by family: her daughters Megan and Helen and her granddaughter all lived with her in her million-dollar home. From the outside, the Hargan women had it all. But when Pamela and Helen were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide, detectives had to ask: what was going on inside the Hargan household?

When my sister threatened to take her life and then was missing/unreachable for 3 hours, the 911 operator asked me "but did she actually threaten to k*ll herself?". Then the police knew where she was but decided she wasn't at risk because "she had her wallet, money, and car as shelter". She ended up taking her life in our car at that location. They should really dispatch search and rescue for life and death situations, their motto is: "When it comes to life and death, we don't take any chances."

That is awful. I'm very sorry for your loss.
I worked for EMS. Our dispatchers are on a whole other level. They could think on the fly & KNOW what was needed NOW! They could step away from the protocol book and kick into “I need to save this life NOW! Then I can ask 100 questions later!” They KNEW they were the victim’s literal lifeline until we got there or LEO. They could figure out the “pizza” order for DV without even knowing there was a secret pizza code. Simply put our dispatchers were intelligent, had common sense, and would NEVER send a caller to a different call center! These dispatchers actions were appalling. I am in disbelief that they would even think to act that way let alone do it. I don’t care if you were having a bad day at work as a dispatcher… I Guarantee you the person on the other end of the line is having a. MUCH BETTER life ! You’re literally saving lives… How in the hell can you be so dismissive of 911 calls?!

It doesn't give one much confidence in '911 operators'.

Horrible 😢
I am a victim of how horrible this county 911 handled my emergency call. I hope they have improved now.
Did these people get fired? Sued? God bunch of jerks.
Ugh!!! The 911 operators are so slow... Jesus Christ!

BLOOD IS THICKER 😱
Love these episodes
At least play all the 911 call so we can hear the whole conversation and how much information he had given ? These small clips mean ABSOLUTELY FK ALL?
Fired!!😢😢
Wow.!!! What a joke these dispatchers are, ( and not a fuuny joke )
This is so hard for me to listen. The boyfriend aspect of this case is gut wrenching. We've got to have better hiring and regular training and supervision to prevent first responders from getting jaded and lose part of their humanity as they deal with so much crime and trauma on a daily basis.
Never ceases to amaze me just how incompetent and lazy some 911 operators can be. Thank god she's no longer a dispatcher.
The ending of this story is awful!!!

I have no idea why they have started uploading these garbage instead of the usual "investagative reporter" episodes which are amazing...
There is no such thing as graphic audio. It is an oxymoron but I understand what it is supposed to mean. LOL
Jesus the ad every 3 minutes is absolutely bonkers. No thanks
