I can't believe the judge would think she was this innocent girl that was manipulated by her boyfriend. Was she also manipulated when she bought expensive stuff with the drug money? I think not. Man the police completely botched the investigation into the hitmen. They could have easily set up a sting operation to catch them in the act or could have quietly arrested Charlotte and given her an offer she couldn't refuse to flip for less time. Then wire her for her next meeting with hit men and get audio of them confirming the job and that her boyfriend was ordering it.

Drugs are so into society it really surprises me that I’ve never been in touch with those substances… it feels like every second human being is using drugs.

Moreover, they even played calls of her breaking down over it. It's not clear you understand the metaphor 'in cold blood'. Why would you bet the farm? Where's the evidence? The analogy is certainly used emptily all the time, but it can still function very well in many cases. How is it possible that human beings felt it was okay to do such things to other human beings? The fact that most view this as the worst thing humans have ever done make it perfect for making analogies. For instance, if you want to argue being a traitor is intrinsically bad, how is bringing up the idea that being a traitor in Nazi Germany would make you a good person, not a valid point? The desire to attack all analogies with nazi germany is usually the weak minded person's desire to stick to the same petty beliefs they were given, i.e. to stick to what they were told was 'good' or 'bad' just like nazis. When did I say what she did should be permitted? I attacked his view that it was in 'cold blood'.What statistical facts are you referring to? She tried to prevent two people from putting her lover in a cage for life, how is that 'cold blood'? You just assume the very things you wish to demonstrate. You draw this silly line between putting someone in a cage for life and killing them. Would you really consider someone who kidnaps a person and locks them in a cage in their basement for life morally superior to someone who kills another? There's certainly an argument that we need to lock her up to keep the rule of law functioning, but the attack on her is disgusting, unless you want to attack her for being a stupid bitch, which is exactly what the court concluded,.

The biggest mystery to me is that she moved to Australia from Sweden at 19. By 22 years old she has a full blown Australian accent.

It’s also an easier accent for us to emulate due to being similar to the Swedish pronunciation than for example the British. So doesn’t surprise me at all, now she is working at a bank her at SEB. Quite strange.

Some posters may not like the op’s comment but there certainly can be bias - especially when a young and attractive woman is the perp as in this case. The bias is often unconscious - studies have shown that even other women (and hetero women so sexual attraction is not the motivating factor) will treat the attractive young woman more favorably when it comes to a punishment or criminal conviction. It has to do with how women (especially young attractive women who look “innocent”) are viewed as not being capable of committing crimes, especially violent crimes, without a man directing it in some way.

So the Australian courts first find Steven not guilty for organising the hit, then later in court they give the Swedish girl a reduced sentence for organising the hit stating she was acting under duress from Steven . They really are stupid down under aren't they.

Leniency aside, you seem to have a legal system that is inconsistent and makes the rules up as it goes along. If Steven was found not guilty of the hit, regardless of whether he was involved or not which lets face it he would have been, how can he possibly be implicated as the duressor to reduce the Swedish girl's sentence. It's either one or the other, make your mind up.

He was found innocent of organising the hit, he claimed (which is obviously bullshit) that she operated on her own volition and the cops didn't have enough evidence to convict the alleged hitmen. Whereas she pleaded guilty to the charge and therefore didn't have a trial...

She pleaded guilty to the charge but got a reduced sentence because the judge agreed she was under duress from Steven, who by the way had been previously found not guilty of the same crime. Does that make sense to you?

Justice systems in practically every Western democracy work the same. She plead to a charge she most likely would have been exonerated from. Therefore she must be sentenced and it seems the judge decided to look for extrenuating circumstances to reduce the sentence.
