I used to work a a pro photographer, I my experience the most "pro" photographers are very experienced amateur photographers that gives their soul to photography, I have learned much more from "pro" amateur photographers than from professional photographers in the last 4 decades.

I was a Pentax shooter at one point (for about 40 years). The Pentax-Ricoh rep for Eastern Canada showed me parts of his catalog of shots taken with the Ricoh GR. Let me tell you, I was "faux keen" impressed. This camera is a gem.

Thanks for a productive video. And here I thought being a pro meant that you had a steady side hustle working at a camera store.. but the biggest difference between amateur and pro is, in my observation, owning a bunch of lighting, diffusers and reflectors, then becoming a good business person. For the casual pro, 1/500 at F8 helps… 😊

It's great to see you using your favourite camera the Ricoh GR111, excellent choice. I think we should all share our secrets, after all we were all beginners at one stage of our photography journey. You covered everything very well, there are no secrets in photography just the things you need to learn. The exposure triangle is not a secret etc etc, just one of many thing you have to learn in photography. It's not rocket science or a secret. Well presented matti thank you. 😊

When I started taking pics, I thought that eventually all the photos I take will be perfect. Here is the tip after some years. Sometimes you will have to take 100 photos to get 5 objectively good and sometimes more than 1k to get one excellent ;)

Here is my pro tip: think more and shoot less. You can get one great shot with one try if you are mindful. If you spray and pray you'll get lucky, but you're not a photographer. You're a tripod.

The real secret is "There are NO Secrets" except hard work and experiences, for the love and joy of Photgraphy to capture that moment that will be gone. These days all Pros have become merely prawns and marketers to promote, market and sell gears, mainly in order to fill their pockets, thereby degrading photography to just any other business as usual.

The only thing that should distinguish amateur from professional photographers is whether you have the misfortune of having to earn a living from doing photography. Amateurs are just hobbyists.

Could this "pro" look be more about color rather than sharpness? As a hobbyist, sharpness has some importance to me but it's the color of my photos that do the job to express the scenery before me. I am also a fujifilm shooter, specifically because I like to have minimal to no post editing. They provide film simulations that really let people play with the colors the camera's capturing. From what I see and hear about Sony, they are the sharpest cameras with a great support of lenses, however, their photos require post processing to really bring out the colors. Also, something I've learned is: test your camera's ISO limit. There are many videos out there that tell you to keep it as low as possible, however technology in cameras have improved, where even what's consider high ISO does not add distracting noise to a picture.

You either play with the colors before or after, the same thing basically. Except that if you do it in post you don't have to think about it while shooting. To each their own and the main thing is to enjoy photography.

😂Fuji shooter here, too. My adbice: do not play with film simulations, white balance, corrections and tone curve. Shoot Raw and edit in post 🎉

Well… you want to be a professional, learn how to commercialize your pictures. Most people fail to make the transition because they don’t know how to sell a product. You take a picture of a moped, you frame it up make sure your exposure and composition and you are done. A commercialized approach would be same photo same moped. Put your camera on a tripod break out a TTL flash. Make a bunch of pictures hitting different parts of the moped with a flash. Comp it together afterwards and you have a shot you can actually sell to a client. You take a picture of a guard on his phone. Instead you can take a pic of the guard actually doing his job well on the alert for clients. One is a street photo the other can actually be used for marketing ….its a shift in how you think about things.

ha, ha, your first "pro secret" is maybe the most valuable thing! Even when I shoot in my studio, I do testshoots before the model comes - all the equipment is working as expected? - - - before I leave for street or landscape: I take test shots, making sure SD-card is in and battery is working! - - - I come in advance for a sunset or a partial eclipse of the moon, figuring out the best place, the best angle beforehand... oooops and all of my camera settings, too: nobody is perfect and every error waits at the next corner to be made ;-)
