This weeks podcast is a statistical indulgence, I love maths and numbers so this is manna from hell! heavy metal hell.....an article came out publishing the most popular metal band from each country via Spotify stats, so I dig into those, what they mean, who cares, and what they say about rock and metals place in streaming culture. Primordial represented Ireland so I mull over that .....the path of least resistance meets my obsession with statistics!

I’ll be waiting for the new Primordial “#1 Metal Band in Ireland” shirt.
Very interesting episode. My double-edged sword relationship with Spotify continues…. Quick note: I’ve never listened to Slaughter to Previal, but they have indeed relocated to (99% sure of the state) California, which may be indicative of the Spotify numbers, as you speculated.

Our representative - Manntra - is ironic... in sense that they are bigger in Germany than in Croatia. On latest tour, they will play in 8 cities there, some of them sold out, while at home only in one, and that avenue has capacity of cca 1.000 people. On side note, our representative for Eurovision, Baby Lasagna, used to be a member of that band. Yeah, it sucks when metal isn't promoted that much, and then many great bands seldom play near you.
Mago de Oz one of the first bands who played folk metal like Skyclad.

'supposed'? what does that exactly mean though.....because in the 1980's metal and hard rock was totally mainstream? selling 10s of millions......it's really during the streaming decade that guitar music has been completely sidelined when it comes to the 'mainstream', does it matter? of course not....but that's not really what the podcast is about

@@AlanAverillNemtheanga My illiterate form of Aussie humour was lost in translation somewhere in between Tasmania and Tipperary. But the point remains the same. Normies listen to Spotify. Did metal outsell normie music in the 80s? Nope. The ratio/factor may be similar if you ignore outliers. More maths to play with.
I was surprised Aria was not the biggest band for Russia. Is AC/DC not considered metal?
