SLAYER, SOLVENTS, SYRINGES and THE PRICE OF A PINT

THE METAL SALVAGE CHATS VOLUME 15
w/ Joe from GAMA BOMB
and Alan from PRIMORDIAL
For Episode 195 of Agitators Anonymous I'm joined by Joe from Gama Bomb for volume 15 of our random chats about mainly heavy metal but more or less anything. This one covers important business like the price of a pint in Dublin, which one of us used to sniff solvents as a kid, which gig from Irelands gritty past had people being stabbed with syringes outside and what we think of the new Kerry King logo.....

The Slayer boxset was soundtrack to the apocalypse, I bought it in HMV in Dublin, we were up to see either Slayer or Maiden. It had some of Jeff Hannemans home demos, he was using a drum machine, cool shit. Mighty podcast btw!

Speaking of ticket prices... there's a link to your Seattle show underneath the description... I couldn't help but look... $50 tickets, $6.85 service fee, and a $5 fac fee. I used to live in Seattle. I don't think I've ever paid more than $20 for a show at the venue. Of course, I haven't been back post-covid. But it's not a fancy club by any means, nor it is any big. And there's a support beam/pole on the stage, pretty much right in front of where you'll be! Hopefully they don't want a cut of your merch, they didn't use to, but who knows now!

While I can't attest to what KK's living room looks like, I do know his garage is one big man cave, full of leather couches, a giant screen tv, and Raider's shit. My friend's old high school buddy used to be his neighbor. They live in a gated community on a golf course and used to go golfing together!

These talks and the ones with Addi are my favorites, Alan. You should always put your irish mug on your show, too. It makes the shows better, plus you're able to show stuff.

Gods the days i remember a £1 a pint in swansea no idea what its at now. How dose it work with kerry king stateing tom never played bass on the early albums, or was that cheep news and KKs album cover and deicides new one looking alike? You guys should do a misfits/samhain/danzig chat.

well I think the KK and Deicide, and new Pestilence are clearly AI generated covers, made in 30 seconds. and yeah Slayer coming back perfectly timed for the KK release, kinda now or never aint it? before they get too old....I dont think thats true about the early albums but I have heard Tom didnt play bass on any of the 00's albums.....

@AlanAverill666 yeah I suppose now or never convenient timing, tho .... as long as they can still pull it off and it gives the younger crown a chance to say I saw slayer, I got to see them on the divine intervention tour and at Donnington so just comeing out of they're prime sill amazing shows tho , no spitting but a hell of a pit at MOR got to meet kk after at a party he seemed like a nice guy.

Can you explain to how I is that ticketmaster have a complete worldwide domination on tickets? Bring back queueing at soundcellar and rhe likes. It's disgusting how they have the monopoly.

ahhh spitting at shows. The first show I ever went to was Anthrax at the Auckland Town Hall in NZ in 1990 - took the day off school somehow and met Frank and Scott briefly (pretty exciting for a 14 year old) as well as one of their roadies whose brother was Exodus' drummer at the time. I was more excited to talk to him about Exodus than anything Anthrax related. Anyway, they walked off because of the spitting and some clown throwing firecrackers at them. The guy doing it got the shit beaten out of him. I thought no thrash band would ever come to NZ ever again given nobody ever came anyway. Then Sepultura came in 1992 and were phenomenal. Halcyon days. I have never been to Ireland but gee 1990s Ireland sounds similar to NZ - shoes stolen, tickets stolen, fights, people bashing people to steal their shirts.

yeah it was a hangover from punk scene.....and punks went to thrash shows, so it carried on, then somewhere around 90/91 they left the scene, didnt get into death metal and I think spent their dole money elsewhere....

Alot of death core bands or "slam" have those vocals that are waaaay over produced. Same as the guitars. I listened to Hate Eternal King of All Kings for the first time in years the other day. That's how it's done!

is it though?.....I would have said....you want a proper death metal production just reach for Altars of Madness.....or Left Hand Path

@AlanAverill666 still better than the newer "brutal bands" but can't go wrong with the classics! If there's good riffs and feeling behind the songs then production doesn't matter too much in my opinion. I love Soulside Journy for example. Wicked riffs!
