Bloodied yet unbowed is one of the greatest songs of all time. Candlemass is also my favourite kind of doom

Great episode! Love Candlemass, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, and Trouble! For those who haven't done so yet the Maryland Doom Scene in the United States is well worth checking out, especially in and around Frederick MD which btw host The Maryland Doom Fest every year in June.

A friend bought Nightfall when it was released, and I was instantly hooked when I heard it. I bought Epicus a year or so later and it is still one of my all time favourite albums. Chapter VI is indeed a brilliant album, we just didn't realize it at the time. Candlemass = Messiah back then, so a new singer popping up made it harder to get into the album. Nowadays, love it! Cheers!

Chapter VI is an amazing record, so underrated but still one of the best metal albums of the 90s. easily.

They played Dark Mofo in Hobart, Tasmania in 2019. A one off show and no other Australian dates so we flew over from Melbourne. Ran into them at the pub the afternoon of the show and felt like a little kid seeing my heroes. The show was brilliant. Not sure if Dark Mofo will ever recover post Covid but perhaps the most inspired festival I have been to (arts festival as opposed to a metal festival). The following night we saw Mystifier and in 2022 saw Triumph Of Death and Triptykon. Again, brilliant.

Totally see that Candlemass DNA in Primordial. Didn't think about it but that grandiosity to the folk and melancholic underpinnings apart from Quorthon is definitely Candlemass inspired (but not derived ie non-derivative). Somewhere all archetypal metal converges on a specific strand of descent and spirit.

Ya can't go wrong with CANDLEMASS. I'm also a big fan of TROUBLE and other Eric Wagner (R.I.P.) led bands and Scott "Wino" Weinrich's multiple bands, projects over the years also the Frederick MD Doom scene among many, many others. So if I may be so bold to I have a program suggestion or series of programs for you, Alan. I think it would be great if you started doing shows on certain metal scenes or countries. It would not only be interesting to get your views, but it would help spread the word on such. For example, even though I have a very good collection of albums from the beginning of heavy music in the late 60's to nowadays and like any other true music fan and collector I'm still discovering and adding to my knowledge and collection all the time but as for instance your knowledge of old eastern block countries metal scenes and bands is far superior to mine and I'm sure it would enlightened not only me but many others and put a well deserved spotlight on those bands and scenes. Again, just a suggestion (wish). And as always, love the show and Long Live PRIMORDIAL!

What about a look at the 80s and 90s Irish metal scene. Not exactly bursting with bands but across the spectrum of doom, death, black and thrash there are gems to be found and discussed. Arcane Sun, MB, Morphosis, Geasa, Abaddon Incarnate, Cruachan...

I saw them in Boston last March and they were phenomenal live; "Solitude" and "Demon's Gate" is one of the best encores have ever witnessed. My favorite live act of 2023 easily.
