Drawing lyrical influence both from modern and historical ideas, Nemtheanga always gives the listener something to think about. The title track continues the themes that have always been a part of PRIMORDIAL, looking at “the life cycle of people, of nations, of languages, songs, myths and tradition. This song, as much of the album, asks the question, ‘do you have the stomach for the fight? The guts to stand against the crowd? To rebel, to dissent, to stand up to authoritarianism?’”
“The title is a question - is this how it ends? How it all goes down: culture, language, history, society - humanity - who knows?,” says vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga. “Regardless of who you are or were, you get one chance at all of this, and it’s asking is this the end of your town, state, nation? Myths, traditions, relationships, and I suppose it asks the question, who reacts, who rebels - how does it end now for them?”
Working alongside founding members Pól MacAmlaigh (bass) and Ciáran MacUilliam (guitar) and longtime drummer Simon O’Laoghaire, the band started writing in earnest in the Fall of 2022, having lit a fire under themselves to work hastily and productively. PRIMORDIAL never plans out a record beforehand, letting them come together naturally, though Nemtheanga knew he wanted something with a bigger, more open sound, and something more aggressive, which is exactly what they achieved. “How It Ends is a very angry, defiant, visceral, and rebellious album, and as we worked it all began to take more shape and form itself. It may be the note we go out on but it will be a note of resistance, in musical terms. I think it’s also more metal! And more epic!”
"How It Ends" was tracked at Hellfire Studios on the outskirts of Dublin, produced by the band and engineered by previous collaborator Chris Fielding.

Best live band i have ever seen always amazing the band are so tight and Alan is one of the best if not the best front men out there. Goosebumps from the moment they step foot on the stage until the walk off again the absolute best. Hails from Ireland.
The album is phenomenal, just breathtaking, but the drumming really stood out to me on this record, some interesting and unique drum parts like the beginning of this song.

I think it's inspired by (Irish) folk music and the rhythm of that handheld drum played with a two-headed stick. As is often the case with Primordial drums.
Fantastic opener. Really sets the tone for the album.
Need to come to canada again, ive been to an stupid amount of concerts and primordial are still the greatest live show ever.

This is outstanding. Speaks properly to the isolation and loss of faith in nearly anything that presents itself in the modern world. The struggle seems to be that our ordinary identities are based on social bonds. In the modern world, individual humans tend to be profoundly distracted, from one's own sentience and the perspectives of others. Thus, everyone ends up alone, without history. In the Pali Buddhist context, glimpsing an end (when there's been not much more than enduring suffering and disenchantment with human limitations) may offer an opportunity for heightened consciousness, leading with training to freedom of mind. Story here, anyway.

The song isn't about one man being "disappointed" in the "western world of today". The song is about the end of western civilization, of European traditions, history, language, myth and most importantly its people. It's about the pure fucking grief of it, how most do not stand up against it, and those that do are silenced. The most tragic thing of all is how most aren't even fucking aware of it, or outright deny it.
