Primordial interview - leaders of epic metal from Ireland are back
Primordial are no doubt the leading metal figures from Ireland and for a reason. These guys have done their music for more than 30 years, and with great passion. Jerry was lucky enough to have this beer-infused moment with A.A. Nemtheanga, the vocalist of the band, for some serious discussion at Beyond the Gates festival 2023. Or maybe not so serious. You get to decide that.

I have so much respect for Alan Averill and the band Primordial.
"Governments should fear its people, people shouldn't fear their governments." My favorite quote from this interview. 🤘🍻

Anarchy would do wonders.
Alan is the absolute best a gentleman and an amazing vocalist. I can listen to him talk for hours such knowledge of metal and history. Can't wait to see Primordial again next April in Dublin.
Awesome band. No bad albums
Alan is completely correct. What the people in power want is to secure (and increase) this power for themselves, their families, and their friends. They do not want a unified working class to stand up against their bullshit, so we are kept at each other's throats with all manner of superficial issues. Meanwhile, those in power strip away our wealth and rights little by little.
Great chat🤘🏼🔥
What a guy! Much respect to Alan. I hope you'll be a guest to his podcast one day. Thanks for the interview!!
Primordial rules, they Rule!
Good interview. Looking forward to the new Primordial. Cheers

"Life is a procession of sadness and sorrow and death..."
Only very few can match Alan's passionate vocal performances. Also, a guy with some very respectable views about various topics and an amazing lyricist. There is no such thing as too many Nemtheanga appearances on the Rauta channel as he always brings something interesting to the table (same goes for the AA podcast).
Great guys and Interview, also one of my favorite bands
I came late to Primordial and they have quickly become one of my favorite bands. A band that is truly unique & immediately recognizable. I also highly recommend Alan’s side projects Dread Sovereign (doom) & Verminous Serpent (disgusting filthy old school black metal). Rauta, I appreciate your engagement & focus during this & all of your interviews!

Great human he is. Not really a Primordial fan but Nemtheanga is defnitely a S-tier dude. Thanks for the interview Jerry!

Your first interview with Primordial helped me regain interest in this band, as I didn‘t bother listening to their post “A Journey‘s End” material.

Glad to hear! You should also check out their new album, out later this month.
I was thinking: "damn you talk loud in this video". But then I understood that there was loud music in the background that you managed to filter out. Pretty neat!

Yes. Well spotted. This was done at a black metal pub, so there was loud music in the background
My favorite band, my favorite humans, but the audio really sucks on this video my friend. 🤔🤘🍻😎
He mentioned Virgin Prunes. They had some interesting concerts which u should check out
I’m new to listening to Primordial but I first ever heard of them when I was staying in Florida, and this one black metal guy I jammed with and hung out with here and there showed me their MySpace page (this was in 2006) and some of their songs. I kind of forgot about that but after I saw your previous interview with Alan I decided to check their discography out once I remembered them. I’ve also met someone (in USA) with his same last name, except it began with an E instead of an A heheh I believe they had Irish ancestry as well.

Ei ole iselle Pirmordial niin kuunneltu bändi, että olisi lempilevyä, vielä.
It sounds like you have synch problems with your audio, as if you camera mic was added to your ambient mic. Allan is a great vocalist!

Unfortunately I have no idea why since the same set-up was used for other interviews. But we'll just have to live with it :( Agreed on Alan!

@@RautaMetalI noticed too but it doesn’t bother me it makes it unique and as a recording artist, I enjoy hearing different ways of recording and mixing recordings together. I’ve accidentally made an overlap of audio like this before. It’s still perfectly listenable imho

what's wrong with the audio?

Probably some sound filter because of the background noise (this was spontaneously done at Hellion black metal pub).
I feel that often art is bigger than the artist and their intent. If an artist creates something in a particular context, drawing from history and culture, it is inescapably of that context. Primordial is inherently Irish, even if the intemt is universal. I can and will interpret the songs from a nationalist perspective, from an Irish and larger European perspective. I don't think that all rebels are the same or that rebellion is inherently good. There are those who rebelled against a safe and prosperous Europe, an Irish Ireland. Those rebels won and are now in power. Now there are those who rebel against them to bring the old order back. I care not about the intent of the lyrics, Primordial's music taps into something much larger than itself. This isn't about a "culture war" but the continued existence of European peoples. A foreigner stabbing children in the capital has nothing in common with me. How can you say most people are alright with a straight face with all the mayhem ans evil happening to European women and children?
terrible way to start but ok
I loved this interview format, and hope to see it again. Makes you feel like you are sitting at the bar just overhearing a conversation you actually want to hear for once. I am curious if theirs a way, and if so what that way would be, to talk about ideas of gender outside of gender politics. Just speaking history and science theirs been different ideas of gender throughout the world in various cultures, this is just speaking from an Anthropological perspective. Theirs also plenty of neurology on the subject from the differences of male/female brains and how that supports the sex/gender narrative today. The way I see it that's the exact problem, its just a narrative not a logical discussion on facts and reality.

Thanks. I don't know if this is so much a new format or anything like that, it was just spontaneously agreed that we'd do the interview here instead of going out.
