What a thing to be that gifted and find your matching niche. Mozart. Van Gogh . Einstein. Brando. Ali. Anyone who loves and appreciates talent must marvel at Ronnie. On his day, making a point to a succession of possible usurpers to the throne, he engages and becomes so complete a player it's majestic to watch. I'm certain all his rivals over the years acknowledge deep down that even on their best day, against Ronnie's A game, it's always second place.

Of course somebody will surpass him. In all sports, greats of the game always have their records beaten at some point, it's just the way life is. Ronnie's records may not be surpassed in the next 10 or 20yrs but for as long as snooker exists he will be surpassed at some point. Snooker also is not a physical game so players can play the game for a long time at a high level. I'm sure somebody will be able to win 8 world titles from 30 attempts.

think what you will. there will be a better player. humans get better at everything they do as time passes. the question is: will we live long enough to see the ones to surpass the likes or ronnie or what messi has done to football records? and with the 5 minutes maxi its a bit unfair, todays referees are not able to handle such a pace, they crawl behind players as often as they can and so waste like 5 seconds per sunken ball. by todays standards referees waste like 90-120 seconds per frame just by poor positioning. how is anyone supposed to come up with a 5 minute maxi nowadays? not even ronnie could, because the refereeing has changed so much.

Yeah. Couple days ago Ronnie was asked on Hendry's channel "can you recall a favourite shot", and he named this one. Said he didn't aim for the gap, it just felt pure and sweet. It's so amazing, because it means he was both focused and relaxed. During a 147 in a final with people going nuts in the audience. The other shot that comes to mind is his forced split of the pink and red in his 147 of the 2008 WC.

@@Peter-yj8fj - well, if you put your viewpoints in the public domain, you should expect to be challenged. And your opinion does have some flaws in it, in that you haven't allowed for Ronnie's personality to be factored into the equation. When you consider how erratic O'Sullivan is temperamentally, a good case could be made to suggest that he has massively over-achieved, as I can't think of any other 'flawed geniuses' of sport who have had the comparative success or longevity of O'Sullivan. In snooker, neither Alex Higgins nor Jimmy White were able to maximise their abilities, as was the case with Paul Gascoigne or George Best in football. Sustained success is usually achieved by those with talent but also a laser-like and consistent focus - see Selby, Higgins, Davis etc - so O'Sullivan is probably bucking the sporting trend in continuing to win the game's major prizes. I think accusations of 'underachievement' can be levelled at a player if they don't try or care.In Ronnie's case, his protracted absences are, conversely, usually the result of his caring too much and not being able to live with the pressures of his own expectations. If he didn't care, he wouldn't be seeking the guidance of Ray Reardon, Steve Peters etc. So, although, in theory, you're right, considering the human factors associated with living in the head of Ronnie O'Sullivan, I reckon we may have been spoiled by the man, and, hopefully, will continue to be so for a good while yet.

Something a lot of people don’t realise is, for around a decade Ronnie fell out of love with Snooker. His head wasn’t in the right place. You can’t blame him, his dad got a life sentence after a pub fight in which his dad punched some other guy and the guy fell and hit his head and later died in hospital. Ronnie went off the rails for quite a long time. Had he not had that long time off essentially, he’d possibly have 10 world championships by now.

Surely in the top 3 best breaks in the history of the game due to being final frame of final & red on side cushion played left handed. Even beats final frame final 147 against selby🤣 but not beat hurricanes clearance against the whirlwind '82 semii-final😏. 10/10 pure class this break

Hands down my favorite match of Ronnie has to be very early in his career when he faced Steve Davis. Ronnie was something like 7 or 8 frames ahead of Steve and only needed 1 or 2 more frames to win. And then Steve decided to play a different game, one of safety play and forced errors, slowly taking back frame by frame, and beating Ronnie in the end. That match taught Ronnie the power of (perfect) safety play, and he made sure nobody could ever play that game, and beat him at it, ever again.

I remember that match. I think it was the Master's. He was flying and the ref struggled to keep up respotting the colours. Davis played a tactical blinder and used all his experience to nullify Ronnie. Shame really as I know who I wanted to win! The Liverpool Victoria final against Hendry was also a stunning match. Ronnie reeled off 6 frames in a row then Hendry won the final frame with a 147. Unbelievable match. Although both of these have since been usurped by Ronnie's 17-16 victory over Selby in the semi-final of the world's 😂😂😂
