Snooker 147, Shootout 147, Golf scratch handicap and hole in one, 9 darts finish. Some guy. A multi talent. And a great, fun and humble gentleman.
This is an insane achievement given the format.

Yes but the shot clock is an added pressure. In the normal game just being able to think over each shot for much longer makes it much easier regardless of total time for the break.@@Vlow52

Brilliant 147. Never thought a maximum break could have been made in this snooker format against the shot clock in a party atmosphere, well done Shaun Murphy.
Its hard to overestimate just how much of an achievement this is in this particular style of the game. Shaun has definitely cemented his name in the history books with this break.

That’s insane! Even without all the commotion, heckling, the duress of the shot clock.. some of those pots were incredible. I guess you can look at it two ways, and say pressure is off in that environment, but still.. insane. One of the best Maxi’s ever.

I suppose there are some advantages to the format which could help out too (as long as the player has the right mentality of course). Not having thinking time can be a bonus as you don’t get a chance to feel the pressure building up, and the generally respectful commotion in the crowd may also drain the nerves a little too. I’ve never been close to a century let alone a maximum, so I can only imagine that in a traditional setting in the purity of silence as they get down on the shot all they can feel and hear is their heart pumping. Even Shaun seemed to acknowledge that with his comment about getting nervous - he was trying to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in the crowd and keep them involved so they didn’t get twitchy either
@thesmithsnerd
5 ай бұрын
@@kevinhussey3819 I’m sure it starts off relaxed, but once it becames a distinct possibility, with the crowd heckling, shot clock beeping, knowing deep down you’ll never get this chance again in this format, the pressure internally will be insane! And it’s one first, it’s the first frame, players are cold. When do you ever see maxis made in a first frame of a match?
Thats one of the best ever televised 147's i have ever witnessed in 50 years. Absolutely stunning. Its not the final of the worlds, but it had its own pressure with those 10 second shots. Stunning achievement lad !

@@neilgoodyer9606 ronnie? Nope, in my head i was thinking the best has to be the first televised 147 by Davis in 1982. I was 9 and watched it with my dad. Thats my pick of the best. Followed by thorburns long steady 147 in the worlds a year later. Like i said, im 50! Ronnies quick break was incredible yes but was in the 1st round of the worlds, so would probably put murphys above that. So 3rd best for me.
"anyone else getting nervous" yes Shaun, I was on the edge of my seat watching it live, fantastic achievement..... It could be quite some time before we see a 147 in a shootout again, if ever
Shaun has been such an incredible player for years. So happy for him.

One of the greatest 147s ever. Basically in control practically all the way, in this format, with all that noise and the shot clock. Just to be able to make a 147 in less than the total frame time in the shoot-out format is incredible, let alone being actually able to handle the unique noisy atmosphere of the event. I see the Ronnie bros are already out in full force trying to spin this achievement as something small. Of course, everybody who knows their snooker know that this is one of the greatest single-frame performances in history. And yes, Ronnie O'Sullivan is still the greatest snooker player of all time. Relax.
This is why we love Snooker! Amazing job Shaun!
