I am shocked you haven't played frostpunk...IT"S SO GOOD!

Zephon reminds me of Beyond Earth, and I had always wanted more of something like it.

I've been following Falling Frontier since its announcement, and am very interested in it. Now that I see they pushed back the release, I'm even more interested. So many broken games and new "releases" that turn out to be early access (which I refuse to buy unless under really strict circumstances) lately, that it gives me some hope this will actually be a fully fleshed out video game. Video games have become such a massive undertaking sometimes that the bar had to be lowered somewhere, and I'm sorry to see that quality is where they most suffer, so they can have all the rest of the bells and whistles... Fragile Existence seems interesting too, gotta check that out, as well as Menace, and of course, Homeworld 3. The first one was probably the most transformative gaming experience in my life. Thanks for the video, got some good info out of it.

Something that is so sad is that, in the last few years, a game getting pushed back had no impact on how broken the game was. Personally it makes me feel like the game has a decent chance of being completely busted

Curious. Have you tried to do a vidieo on past "new strategy games" to see if they lived up to your hopes?

Infection Free Zone looks very promising for 2024

I was super duper interested in ARA until I heard about the fact that in each era of the game whoever is in last place just gets killed off. That one mechanic utterly shattered my interest, which quickly turned to Millenia instead, specifically with its unique economy mechanics. Honestly the economy is more interesting to me than the ages. :3

Fair enough! The economy is cool. I’m not an expert on Ara, but my understanding was that loser civs have probably about two opportunities to be knocked out during a game (could be more though). I like it. A little less hand holding isn’t a bad thing & a threat of actually losing could be a good way to avoid new players wasting hours and hours in a dead game.

@@JumboPixel for me it just feels like it’s encouraging powergaming over everything else. You HAVE to do really well really early on, otherwise you just get booted. And while I’m not a multiplayer person myself, the mechanic basically kills any multiplayer potential. Who wants to play a game where everyone else gets to carry on without you because you were a few points behind the person in front of you? It just seems unfair.

Yeh I agree not the best idea. I am still looking forward to Ara more so the Millenia because it has that blend of what looks to be TW like combat and more immersive civilisation building. I love how you can really see your cities in more detail along with the battles. One issue with paradox games I find is that as much as I love 4x, some of their games are a bit too spreadsheet heavy with more of a disconnect with gameplay. Hopefully in Ara they can allow the player to switch that feature off

Agreed. While I can respect the dev's for trying something very different, it's just not my flavor of different.

You missed the most promising one - Tempest Rising (A remake of Command and Conquer).

Hooded horse kinda popped up outta nowhere and started supporting a ton of great games by small teams I wonder what they’re offering

Is civ 7 not supposed to release in 2024? Or just didn’t make your list?

If it's published by Hooded Horse, add at least one year to the expected release date.

What are the last two games in the intro?!

I would love to see a more historical focused game using Civ model. Basically instead of waiting on units by turn, you buy them, historical maps/scenarios and nations in correct spots, more focus on city building (I prefer more of a model like older Civs), etc. I also want civ to remove religion or nerf it to be less important as well as remove world councils. Seems like Civ 4 was closest model but even it needed work.

Have you checked out Old World? Created by one of (or a few) designers of Civ 4, is much more historically focused in a much smaller time line. Also more of that CK2 inspiration where you play more as a ruler than a nation. Events pop up for you and your family that change the inner politics of your cities and such. Pretty fun and weirdly rarely talked about.

2089 Space Divided is a new RTS

i want to like millennia, but it looks rough, even ugly. Graphics are not everything, but these days we are not short on choices in games.

Were non-PC games considered for this list? Unicorn Overlord from Vanillaware is looking to be a pretty solid SRPG coming out in early March

In my opinion the only one really interesting is Manor Lords.

Jumbo it’s disappointing that Dominions 6 isn’t in your list. Sure it’s a niche game because it’s has 2-3 times more depth than any other strategy game and isn’t very pretty, but it’s going to be great.

Falling Frontier is such a constant disappointment. Its not the delays its the horrible communication and the part of the dev. Even after getting picked up by Hooded Horse, no improvement in letting people know whats going on.

Falling frontier better be careful on its release date gta 6 coming out 2025.

I will bet money gta won’t work the first year so if the game isn’t broken it will be alright. I also question how much overlap in the player base there is

Outside of Manorlords, which looks to be EPIC, I have to say its a lackluster year for Strat gaming
