THE Best Exercises For Scoliosis

Here’s the best exercises for scoliosis to relieve the pain, restriction & tightness that often comes with having a curved spine. Done daily, they can help to minimise the impact a scoliosis can have on your health. Plus, I explain what all people with a thoracic scoliosis should be doing... shoulder exercises.
0:00 What Scoliosis Exercises can help with
0:26 Thoracic or Lumbar Scoliosis? Where to focus.
0:45 Exercise 1. Lumbar side bends
2:15 Exercise 2. Lumbar rotation

5:25 Can you straighten a Scoliosis???
EXERCISES FOR SCOLIOSIS… Does scoliosis treatment without surgery work?
Can a scoliosis be corrected? Sometimes, depending on the form of scoliosis you have. 80% of people with a scoliosis have an Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis-a bend and twist in the spine that develops as we grow during our early teenage years. In these cases, the bones grow with an uneven shape. We can’t change the shape of the bones, so in these cases the scoliosis cannot be straightened, but you can do exercises to keep this type of scoliosis healthy and mobile. But, other forms, like postural scoliosis can be corrected or improved. In these cases, physical therapy for scoliosis can really help.
If a child shows signs of scoliosis, they should always be assessed by a professional to ensure that the curve in the spine is not progressing. In severe, progressing cases, braces or even surgery may be needed.
DO THESE SCOLIOSIS EXERCISES BOTH SIDES REGARDLESS OF WHICH SIDE YOUR SCOLIOSIS IS!
Regardless of the side, shape, or level of your scoliosis, whether you have a C curve scoliosis or an S curve scoliosis, these scoliosis exercises should be done on both sides! The scoliosis stretches will STRETCH one side more because one side is always tighter. They will naturally STRENGTHEN one side more than the other because one side will struggle against the curve more. They will automatically MOBILISE one side more than the other because one side will be more restricted. But you don’t have to know where the curves are, or even think about it. Just do them regularly to get scoliosis pain relief and prevent long term issues from having a thoracic scoliosis or lumbar scoliosis.

I have mild scoliosis and a problem in my hip. I had really awful pain that persisted for two weeks in the muscles alongside my spine, my butt and down my leg no matter how much massage and streching I did. Then I tried these exercises and the pain was reduced immediately after. I've been doing them for a couple of days. The pain is gone now. Thank you so much!

How do you strength your back without injury? I feeel it’s very difficult when your spine is not straight. What are the safe scoliosis exercises to do?

  • @BodyFixExercises
    @BodyFixExercises3 жыл бұрын

***NOTE!! Regardless of the side, shape, or level of your scoliosis, these scoliosis exercises should be done on both sides! They will naturally stretch and strengthen the side that needs it the most without having to think about it. (They'll stretch the muscles one side more because the muscles one side are always tighter. They will strengthen one side more (the outer part of the curve) because that side has more resistance due to the curve, so needs it more. And they will mobilise one side more because one side will always be more tight and restricted.) But you don’t have to know where the curves are, or even think about it. Just do them regularly, both sides, to get scoliosis pain relief and prevent long term issues from having a scoliosis. In most cases they will NOT straighten the spine, because in most cases the shape of the bones have changed permanently as they grew. ("Adolescent Idiopathtic Scoliosis") P.S. You might notice that I have a mild scoliosis--you can see my neck bends to one side slightly. So I do these exercises too! 💪

Im76. As the years go by I’ve gotten shorten & it’s really hard to stand straight. My issues started at a very young age - less than a year old. My baby buggy fell down a steep flight of stairs. Feet turned under & start of back problems. Over the years I’ve had several other back injuries. Was 5.5 & now am 4.11. Chiro has helped some - therapy not much - & I refuse to let rods be put on my spine. Utube has recently had quite a few videos for scoliosis but yours seems to be one of the better ones and I’m going to be using 3 of the stretches . Thank you for posting them. One is similar to one of the therapy exercises I do but a more advanced way of doing it. Old bones need a lot of care.

I'm 71 YO, Male, now retired and a sufferer of a number of Spinal Conditions including Dextroscoliosis of 25 degrees (up from 22 degrees in the past 10+ years). I have had a few doctor opinions about the cause (Idiopathioc). In 1966, at 15 yo, I fractured my right Femur playing HS Football (not Soccer). It took over 4 months for the healing process which included being in a full Body Cast for 10 weeks after 6 weeks in traction in the hospital. When the cast came off, the doctor was "surprised" to find that my right leg was 1 inch Shorter(the femur was shorter). Other than measuring both my parents' legs (finding my mother was 1/4" short on the right), he left that Unaddressed. After about 15 years, the lower back pains and stiffness started affecting me. It's been downhill ever since. The Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) is my Ground ZERO, despite one doctor opining otherwise?? Now, I have OA in my spinal vertebrae & Facet Joints; Stenosis at various sites in the spine, DDD throughout, C3-C7 disc bulges & stenosis, T9, T10, L2 L3 and L5-S1 disc buges (and Sponylioethisis ) and OA in both Hips and Knees. I never hit the 8-10 Pain Markers, but generally around 4-6 (It Varies), with constant Stiffness and chronic pains daily. I have seen 6 different Spinal and Neuro Surgeons since 2018 - all said NO Surgery on the Lumbar spine , far too much Arthritis. Acpuncture did very litle to help with the Pains, 6 different Chiros including Upper Cervical Chiropractic did little to help after many sessions. Many people fail to realize that Stenosis and Scoliosic curves affect the Nerves which in turn contributes to a high Misery Index. I will try these exercises, but the Stiffness in my spine limits me. FWW, I have ben taking many supplements to combat the Inflammation, spending lots of $$$$$ in that effort. I learned a few months ago from my Pain Management Doctor that my initial Cervical MRI done in 2012, revealed that I have a More Narrow Than Normal Spinal Canal. Common Sense to this Layman would indicate that would be a contributing factor to the heightened Misery and Anxiety.

Thank you so much for this inclusive, clear video. I have 3 lumbar disc hernias - which are 95% healed thank God) and because of the spine's attempt to heal I have the 3 types of scoliosis. These excercises are burning areas of error in a good way, and I can already feel the freedom in joint movement and less weight on the spine and hips. Thank you so much!

You can't straighten a scoliosis (in most cases) ... but "if you don't move it, you lose it". I think it's important to be proactive and move the spine through all the ranges of motion to stop it from stiffening up. And keep the muscles in good shape.

Mine is Thoracic so it felt amazing doing each if the stretches, I'm gonna continue these for a few days and let you know how it's going for me. My degree is 43.3 and I have a 15° in my neck, ;_; I use to have a third one but it's gone now :) I'm 19 years old but I'm not sure if it progressed or not since I haven't been able to find anyone to do xrays for me that will accept the card I have. Mom keeps saying I'll be fine but they diagnosed me with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, even though she keeps saying no but how would I not remember something this important to me when it's not important to her? Honestly. Thanks for sharing this video.❤

I’m always looking for stretches and exercises on the internet that help scoliosis. I have AIS since 13, left lumbar curve, or Levoscoliosis. Here in the UK there are not many professionals with much knowledge of scoliosis. These exercises are brilliant for keeping the back supple and flexible, which of course reduces pain. Interestingly, I notice Usain Bolt has scoliosis too- lumbar and thoracic in an S shaped. He is the fastest man in the world and works hard on building up his back muscles so you can hardly tell he suffers from it. I wonder, I have started using the gym now at age 42, as I have looser stomach muscles from having children. Is it possible do you think to build up the concave muscles to reduce the rib hump and support the spine better? It’s only recently my rib cage has started irritating me on the left side, it feels like something digging in sometimes, I wonder if it’s because my stomach muscles are not very strong? Thank You for the videos, I’m so happy I found this channel to use!

The Schroth technique aims at reducing the curve and rib hump. You might have some luck with that, but it's more likely to help in teenagers, it's a lot of work, and I'm not convinced it can do much. The issue is that with AIS the bones change shape as you grow in the teenage years. Now that the bones have matured and formed their final shape (at 18 years old or so) you can't alter their shape. The rib cage pain could be rib restriction, muscle tightness, or arthritic joint degeneration. The exercises on this video are the best I know to help with the first two. But do them on both sides. I don't really think working the abs will make much of a difference to your rib irritation. This video may help too. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmyqraWRgJq1g8Y.html Good luck!

I found your job the most relevant and well-presented, thank you for that. I have mild Scoliosis between my shoulders, so my right shoulder is a little lower, and my right collarbone has more gap compared to the left side at the Sternoclavicular Joint (clicks with particular movements). I was wondering if the collarbone issue as I described is a common symptom in such a condition or not?

I’ve had a hard time figuring out why I was having pain around my ribs so often. But after being scanned by a chiro, it makes sense. I have a minor S shape scoliosis, and notice that my back muscles are always tight. Whether my pain comes from the muscle or cartilage, im not sure, but it seems that every time my spine gets Re-aligned, I feel significant improvements.

If you get relief from chiropractic you must have some restricted joints in there. Spinal or costovertebral joints. So some of these mobilising exercises should help too
