The BEST 35mm PRIME ever!? Tamron 35mm f1.4 REVIEW

Ойын-сауық

Hope you guys and gals enjoy this review of the Tamron 35mm f1.4 lens. I've used this lens before on Nikon, but this review is based off using the Canon mount version, adapted to the @CanonUSA mirrorless cameras. This lens is amazing when placed on any Canon DSLR body, but this review is specifically done to show you how it performs adapted to mirrorless cameras. I am a wedding photographer that shoots all over the world, and I've used this lens on all of my wedding for 2022. Hope you enjoy it!

    Great review, I bought this lens a year ago for my Nikon. I rely on my 85 f1.4 90% of the time. I really needed to see this review in order to see how much more I can be doing with this lens. My results have been good but I definitely need to bring it out more. I do many outdoor events and my 85 lets me stand back a little and get my shot. You're going to make me get a little closer and get a whole new perspective. I appreciate your examples throughout your video. Many SOLID examples given showing the possibilities of this lens. Thanks again. And you are correct ... great bang for the buck.

    hey Scott... really good review... and even better images, I'd say... I'd just like to hear if you had experience with other 35mm lenses on your current camera setup. my main question is regarding af speed? i already have rf 35mm 1.8, and I found it to be quicker than sigma 35mm 1.4 adapted but still not happy with af speed... I'd go with any option that is quicker to focus but not sure if there is any besides Canon's own 35mm 1.4L II... in the end I will go with that one as there is still no news about release date of fast 35mm rf... so can you comment on af speed of tamron vs any other 35mm for your current setup? best regards.

    Really enjoyed your review, Scott! Great pics, too! I recently picked up the Tamron 35mm 1.4 for my Canon EOS R. I have my first HS Senior Portrait Shoot with this next week, and I can't wait! Thanks for your no nonsense detail sharing what is most important to you. I have to admit that for a long time, I have been a 85, 50, 135 impassioned shooter, but I can see how the "story-telling" aspect of subject AND environment is such a strong possibility with 35. Can't wait to experience this in my shooting. All My Best, Scott!

    I am so glad I found this video because I would like to share that I possess this incredible lens alongside my 5dsr and I think there is no better combo till date. They make a perfect couple and this lens is Exquisite. I am so glad at the moment of my purchase I didn't go with a 24-70 zoom as this idea just came to me right in time luckily. Due to the nature of 5dsr, i can use this lens for 3 focal lengths, 35 45, and 56 and that makes total f sense. I have an odd selection of lenses right according to my usage which sounds quirky to people but fits with my usage in a way that I am proud of it and having this lens in it is a real booster.

    Hi Scott...! Greetings from Jakarta. Insightful video and outstanding pics, you have my subs...! I am R6 shooter and wanna ask whether this lens needs to be calibrated (firmware updates) prior to adapting it to R6? And may I know how's this lens compare to Tamron SP 35mm F1.8, Native Canon RF 35mm F1.8 and Sigma Art 35mm F1.4? Have you ever tried and compared those lenses? Thanks!

  • @scottstocktonphotography

    @scottstocktonphotography

    9 ай бұрын

    Greetings!! Thank you for tuning in and for the sub! This lens does not need to be calibrated prior to being adapted to your r6. I had the sigma art 1.4 before getting the Tamron, and for me the Tamron is much faster to acquire focus, so I sold the sigma version for this one. I haven’t tried the rf 35 1.8. I imagine it might be fractionally faster, but I haven’t had any speed issues with the Tamron, to want to explore giving up 1.4 to go to 1.8. I feel like the Tamron is the winner here

    It is definitely heavier than the canon version. That being said, I have way heavier glass with the 50 1.2 and my 70-200, so it’s weight doesn’t bother me that bad. I have my own presets that I use. That being said I’ve been using Imagine ai to edit most of my wedding pictures now. Ever used them?

    Thank you for this review. I own the SP 85mm f1.8 and 45mm f1.8 and think that the SP line of primes of Tamron kind of flew under the radar despite the fact that they perform brilliantly. It kind of makes up however for more unique photos as these lenses do truly deliver unique results. I especially love my 45mm f1.8 and wouldn't trade it for the world! Everyon e is so busy with the latest 2000+ dollars canon L series lenses releases and dismiss the much cheaper and truly capable options from 3rd party manufacturers.

    I agree with you completely! And the performance of this lens and the other Tamron sp lenses, is amazing, even being adapted. I want to get the 85 1.8 next as my main 85. I’ve heard great things about the 45 as well!

  • @ralphsaad8637

    @ralphsaad8637

    11 ай бұрын

    @scottstocktonphotography I think the 45mm is not perfect in every way, the AF speed is just adequate and there can be some moderate amounts of chromatic aberrations at times. But the quality of bokeh is truly special all while being very sharp and having incredible minimum focus distance (29cm vs 45-50cm for most 50mm lenses). It is also built like a tank and produces just beautiful results overall, making it my favorite lens ever and I have owned nearly 10 lenses so far, some being primes and some zooms. The 85mm is just hard to fault in any way and delivers consistently great results no matter what you throw at it.

    @scottstocktonphotography I am sure you will love it! Small note: I have found that it's actually a bit longer than 85mm (somewhere between 87-88mm). So while there are wider aperture 85mm lenses available, it kind of makes up for it by being a bit longer and thus providing some extra compression and separation to make it competitive with f1.4 options. The sigma 85mm art (original) was for instance measured to be around 82-83mm do a bit shorter.
