I moved out in the woods ditched all the fake people in my life and haven't looked back . Now I'm off the meds and living life the way I feel is best for me. When I find real people it's very nice to spend time with them . The number of fake people seems to be growing exponentially and that is alarming. Just my opinion . Great video 👍

I totally agree. Kinda feels like the zombie apocalypse is actually happening. It's a shame because I don't want to see everyone going through their lives mindlessly, but not everyone wants their eyes to be opened.

That's right Steve, periods of happiness are fleeting moments to enjoy but that can never really be held on to. Contentment is sustainable and is usually developed over time. I discovered years ago that the further out away from society I went it became easier to stay there, and for me, the longer I stayed the less likely it was that I'd return. When you step into the wilderness, as you know, the whispering winds of nature envelope you and nurture your primordial being. I've been up here for 27 years and for the last 4 years I've not left the hermitage. The wonderment in the 'not going' is the receiving of what just 'comes in.' TC hermit and give ol' Brut a pat.

I'm trying to imagine what kinds of gifts the universe has given you over those 27 years. Just amazing. My intention is to keep my mind and heart open to whatever ends up coming my way as a result of this lifestyle. Good or bad, something can always be gained from it.

We really have lost our way. I'm glad there are people making a difference by speaking out on what is happening in our society. I think ghe more people spend in nature will make a difference in their well being.

Absolutely. After being in the tranquility of nature, I run to town and can't believe the overwhelming amount of chaotic noises. It's no wonder that people have such high levels of anxiety and depression when they're being bombarded by that cacophony 24 hours a day.

I am basically alone 5 days a week. The other 2 days I work and have contact with 2 people, one for 10 minutes a day and the other for 16 hours a day. I find I enjoy those times, but Im also ready for the solitude that follows. My stepdad on the other hand goes absolutely crazy without someone to talk to. We call him the social butterfly of the family. The rest of us could be hermits very easily and be quite content.

Having company for 2 days a week seems like a good, healthy mix to me. That 5 days off to recharge the batteries is excellent though. Your stepdad sounds like some people I know. That's why I mentioned social people not being good candidates for hermit living in the beginning. Some people just have a deep seated need to be surrounded by others at all times.

I too am an introvert. For us, being alone is the only time that we have to be ourselves, that's why we need it to recharge. When we socialize, we are always tired afterwards because of all the "work" required to interact with others. And I don't mean "work" in a bad way, but it just is. I too enjoy social interaction far better when I'm not being forced to socialize with strangers on a daily basis. KZread is a great outlet for introverts, and I think there are a lot of us who make content, if we say something "stupid" we can just delete and start over. Oh, and book stores are the best.

@@Chickenfoothomestead KZread does seem to be a good outlet for people like us. I've found that I don't have to call and explain how life is going to friends and family back in Illinois as much since posting videos about what I'm up to. They've also told me that it comforts them and makes them feel like they're still in closer contact with me by watching. That's reason enough for me to keep making videos.

Thanks, Alex. Hope all is going well with you. No, I haven't experienced any feelings of loneliness. Having Brute as a companion helps with that of course, but it seems like running to town once or twice a week to get building supplies and groceries is plenty to satisfy my need for human contact. In the future I'll be more established and need fewer trips into town so I wonder if that will change things for me going longer periods between seeing people. I will keep you and everyone else updated on my experiences in that regard in the future.

That's a good question. I've personally never bothered to analyze the semantics of the two words. I'd be willing to bet that even if solid definitions of the two words could be agreed upon, that someone like me would not be 100% one or the other. More likely, each individual hermit/recluse/lone wolf would be different proportions of each based upon their individual genetic makeup and life experiences. I really appreciate questions like yours that make me think though.
