    I’m under incredible stress. My Doctor wants me to relax so I’m going to the gym and I’m also going to try building models. For me it’s not about the finished product although I would like it to be nice. For me it’s a chance to be alone with no one asking me questions and with no drama. Great video. I can’t wait.

    Good luck sir. I was just diagnosed with a terminal lung disease, along with heart disease. My Mom had the same illness I do, emphysema. It is slow acting but the slow brutality is hard to deal with at times. Any flu outbreak, or "cold" can put me in the hospital. I just spent over a week in there last month. 5 times in 20 months I've been admitted and it SUCKS. Now I have issues with my legs so walking has been hindered BIG TIME. I was a BIG Hot Wheels collector until my illness hit. Now I am "stuck" so to speak. With this Corona-19 or whatever the heck it is called, I CAN'T leave the house for fear I'll catch it. It has the potential to kill me. My point, sorry for the long a** yappin, is I've been looking for something I can to that I enjoy and that gets my creativity moving. Model making is IT!! I did them as a kid. Now however I have more patience, and know-how. I also have experience with model puddy and can hopefully do some cool stuff. BEST OF LUCK to you. Life can be brutal, never give up and never surrender.

    Aaaahh, nothing like a vid like this to bring back memories of my earliest attempts to "the art of scale modelling". In the mid and late 60-ies, Airfix airplanes was widely available and built, but my passion for automobiles is alive, kicking and well living even today, more than 50 years later. Due to an early retirement, with more time to spend on modelling, an old "dream" of building a complete range of Chevrolet Corvettes is about to come true. Kits are piling up on my shelf, I'll have my '53 delivered on monday, matt black and "Polo white" rattle-cans are ready for service. THX Angelo, I will follow this build with great interest and joy.

    Yeah, it used to be cheaper to build a model than to buy a toy car of the same size, which made sense. Now, it's the other way around. Like, seriously, you could buy a 1/24 Dodge Charger toy for probably not more than $10. That same model kit would cost you $25-40 or so, depending on the quality. And then you'd also have the cost of the paints, glue, and various "tools" needed. Hell, I just checked, and you can get a toy die cast Knight Rider KITT from Wal-Mart for about $13, and even cheaper at some other places. Last year, I paid $30 for a KITT plastic model kit from a hobby/craft store.

    @@AngelosWorkbench Angelo, learning is a LIFELONG experience. If you stop learning, your brain ceases to grow. There are always NEW ways to do things. There are also changes that come about. Ways that could make things easier, or maybe not. The thing is it's YOUR hobby. Do it the way you want. What makes YOU comfortable. But NEVER EVER stop learning. One other thing I have learned is no matter how good you THINK you are, there's ALWAYS someone better, someone faster, stronger, and smarter. If you choose NOT to try and learn from these people you are make your brain to become stagnant and eventually it will just die.

    Hey Anthony, got a few questions for you. Have you ever used Testors bottle clear blue flip flop pearl paints ? I just shot a 90 mercury cougar XR-7 with Model Masters Classic white. I used a 2 to 1 ratio of paint and lacquer thinner. I'm gonna give the paint 4 days to gas out before shooting the testors blue F.F. Pearl over the white. Should I use the 2 to 1 ratio in the clear pearls, or use it straight out of the bottle to my airbrush? Thanks,Howard

    Thanks for all these tutorials! It's great to see the effect of regular spray paint on plastic, for example, the krylon paint to cover the chassis. Have you ever used Rust Oleum Ultra Cover? I applied three coats of Testors primer on the body, but i can't get a can of blue paint of the same brand, so I think i'll go with the krylon gloss blue.

    Hey Angelo, I got a question for an expert like yourself about bare metal foil. I am trimming the AMT Chevy Corvair Funny car . I used testors dark red paint 2 to 1 with lacquer thinner.This is probably irrelevant. When I lift the excess foil off the body, it leaves the adhesive from the foil. I am wondering if rubbing alcohol will work without messing up the paint finish ? Btw, I do make a point NOT to rub in / burnish the unwanted areas. I could try alcohol without referring to you but I don't want to risk it. I just got back into this hobby after a 30 year hiatus and stuff like this, ruining a paint job will make me want to walk away. Got many kits almost finished, until it gets to trim. Lol. I figure one weekend I will not build and do all the trim of each unfinished model. I would like to finish each kit one at a time . AADD. LOL

When I'm building the engine I dont worry about it too much. But if I'm for example gluing the rear view mirror to the outside of the car, I dont want the glue to drip and run down the side of the door, or accidentally use too much glue and have it move around

And build (with sanding And painting And assembly) maybe 3-4 days, so in total 2 weeks (if you work about 3-6 hours a day, if you paint the body with just Color and dont clear it a lot less, like 4 days)

    Jesvin Joy thanks very much for your question. Other than with Future floor polish as a clear coat I have never been able to get a good result brush painting a body. I would suggest that anything is better than brush painting for a surface that large and smooth. Now it’s not impossible though. It would require brushing on a thick enough coat so you could wet sand and polish out the paint to a smooth surface. Loads of labor and even then probably not as good as a sprayed even coat.

    Angelo's Workbench Thank You for the reply. The reason I'm asking is that I know friends of mine who build model planes, and they have never used a spray can or airbrush, they've only used brushes. Is there something about model planes that don't require a spray can/airbrush?

  • @AngelosWorkbench

    @AngelosWorkbench

    6 жыл бұрын

    Jesvin Joy hello again and thanks. You bring up a very good point. Airplanes are a whole different ball game. While an airbrush/spray can would always help - airplanes are a little more forgiving with brush painting. I personally spray anything bigger than a dime. It’s just a better result that way. I do airplanes as well sometimes and my airbrush comes in very handy for weathering/painting/applying filters, etc. there are still many techniques that can be done with a brush. Ideally being able to do both increases the quality of the model in my opinion. Thanks again for your questions!

    TXC_Ivan links come and go so I don’t typically include any. You should be able to get this on your favorite online marketplace or anywhere Revell kits are sold. Thanks.

    Cool model, but the Magnum 500 wheels are incorrect for a 1970 Charger, it should have the '70 and after road wheels.

    Allthough it is possible some early production Chargers got built with leftover Magnums from the 69 models. I think all Mopar kits should come with steelies as an option too.
