Hope you're doing well, been a while I know - hectic times, remember baby strollers? You grew out of that, didn't you? Imagine if your parents forcefully kept you strapped in one refusing to let you out of it. Certainly we've grown out of a couple more things on a macro scale and we've yet to handle those situations reasonably. If you like the premise of the video, consider getting the book - amzn.to/2kQHqsZ Working on more content again, help by sharing videos you like is greatly appreciated. Thank you. - illacertus

Against any form of physical abuse, especially that of children. Parents who think they have a right to spank their kids are dreadful. Their argument is that their parents spanked them and that they turned out alright. I'm disturbed at that "I know how to raise my child." attitude by ignorant dumb people who cause a lot of unnecessary suffering for the young.

    5. My favourite labor of Theseus has been the fifth one, where he encounters Procrustes at Eleusis. Theseus overcame this criminal who captured all men that passed near him and placed them in his special bed made of iron. If the man was shorter he would stretch him, but if he was longer he would cut his head. Either way the man would die. The biggest weaknesses that a man is facing have always been the inferiority or superiority complex. To reach enlightenment one must conquer them.

The book I read said procrustes would cut of their legs if the individual proved to big for the bed. It's both amazing and maddening that everything you hear today has an alternate version! I've been going through my life lately heeding professor Feathers admonition: "Believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see" ...or maybe that was Dr Tar who said that!

I first heard about the procrustean bed in a mythology class in college. There was not much I've retained from those days but this story always stayed with me. I'm just now exploring the philosophy behind it. And while, on some level, I was already aware of its meaning, I now see that I have incorporated the lesson into my daily life without intending to. I fucking love philosophy!! Thanks @illacertus 🙏

Love your videos and love Taleb's work. I wonder why schools don't teach a more diverse set of skills like farming, purifying water, making useful things or even catching fish from a pond - and let the kids figure out what they like to do with their lives. Not everyone is cut out to be a corporate warrior (or slave as Taleb puts it). Most kids in our society grow up without truly understanding where our food and water come from. Looking at our kids, I really worry about the future. They are addicted to dumb devices, mostly eat stuff that's wrapped in plastic (many consider eating fruit from a tree dangerous) and are taught too much PC non-sense at schools that makes them walk on egg-shells for the rest of their lives.

You're the man, cool guy. No really. Today, it takes an individual FOREVER to find assurance that all the rampant passivity we see is actually a newer attitude with all that dumb, discarded crap folks bandy as sensible and admirable to remain looking fashionable, is actually as crucial now as 100 years ago. Please outline the dimensions in concept to respect! Oh my gosh! That topic is red hot for deep contemplation .

So would the concept of human augmentation, i.e. replacing normal human limbs with highly functioning robotic ones, be considered part of talebs's view of hubris and if so is their a certain point where it crosses or is all augmentation hubris? I'd love to hear you opinions.

@@Illacertus He links to it after talking about the concept! Taken from his email: "Myth I’m considering in modern-day circumstances - A Procrustean bed: “Something designed to produce conformity by unnatural or violent means. In Greek mythology, Procrustes was a robber who tied his victims to a bed, either stretching or cutting off their legs in order to make them fit it.” (Source: Oxford Dictionary of English Idioms). Nassim Taleb (@nntaleb) has a related book of aphorisms titled The Bed of Procrustes. He explains the title thusly: “Every aphorism here is about a Procrustean bed of sorts-we humans, facing limits of knowledge, and things we do not observe, the unseen and the unknown, resolve tension by squeezing life and the world into crisp commoditized ideas, reductive categories, specific vocabularies, and prepackaged narratives, which, on the occasion, has explosive consequences.” For more, see this animated KZread video: The Bed of Procrustes. Have you looked into veganism, I wondered? Also I want you to gain more viewers so you can go full time sooner so maybe you could try a tactic of Garyvee: tweeting about trending topics three times a day to get discovered, using facebook video for reach, you can even take pieces of your current content.
