The Balance Tool Blizzard Isn't Using | Hearthstone

In the first half, I talk about various ways to balance a card and hearthstone, and talk about the history of Fiery War Axe, a very difficult card to balance. In the second half, I talk about Hearthstone's newest mechanic Manathirst, and ways it could be used to balance cards, both old and new.

Nice video. I like how manathirst doesn't interact with Brann and the broken battlecry stuff, but it's annoying that we have to even think about that. Brann is the problem, not battlecry.

Yes, I agree- Brann is absolutely limiting design space. However, he has been such an iconic card for so long, I don't know if he will ever be changed. I look forward to the upcoming card Flann Flonzebeard- your Manathirst cards trigger twice. :p

Good video. The only issue I can think of for more Manathirst implementation would be how the keyword effects the flavor of cards. Like for your Fiery War Axe example, why would FWA gain more durability after waiting a certain amount of time? It's not a huge issue, and not all cards are equally flavorful in their creation, but I think it might hold the devs back from adding Manathirst to every potentially weak or powerful card in the game.

If Manathirst becomes really prevalent we might see a rise of "Off curve" gameplay, where there's many Manathirst options that you never want to play your good cards on curve, you'd rather let them... Thirst? Obviously they wouldn't make every card manathirst, however I believe there is a critical mass of these cards that would take away from the uniqueness.

Great video, though I would argue Fiery War Axe would still not be played with your buff, to be honest

I agree, power creep has come a long way in 5 years. I just thought Fiery War Axe would be a good subject for this video because it's one of those cards that would get nerfed into oblivion no matter which stat you tweak, and manathrist could be a good alternative (if it was 2017!) Thanks for watching.

@@tin_sensei one card that I thought would be the best example (instead of denathrius) would be the 2 mana 2/2 which was nerfed to a 3 mana 2/2 dealing 1 damage for each time you attacked. Manathirst would have solved many problems with it and it would have been fairer

@@calinpop9622 That's a good one too. It really is crazy how good Brann is.

Great video. I do not think replacing Battlecry with Manathirst would be a great idea, as it would just remove the purpose of the Battlecry itself and any synergy attached to it. Maybe merge the 2 keywords, so every existing battlecry reads as "Manathirst (0)". But we are talking about a substantial change made to the game. But I do agree that the Manathirst keyword has insane potential for adjustment, and your example on Mossy horror was totally on point. NB : as you quickly mention, it would create some huge balance issues towards neutral cards because of Druid's ramp, which is a topic you should have adressed more thoroughly.

I don't think that Tin Sensei is talking about removing the keyword battlecry in it's entirety. It definetly was only in reference to Sire Denathrius and how it would change it's standing in the meta by removing the synergies that made it broken.

I agree that the audiences may be different. But really I'm just making videos about topics that I find interesting, not about any one particular game. I will definitely come back to Zelda in the future, but I have a lot of ideas I'm excited to make right now. Thanks for watching!
