Most of the work for space lasers would be clearing up "flying misunderstandings", junk satellites, some debris, but mostly picking off someone else's spy satellites

    Love the mention of 72 east-ting... 2 Bradly's and 1 M1A2 trashed 2 full armored units from Iraq... One M1A1 said "Let me drive into that smoke cloud an check things out..." Few minutes later a full on tank battle happens while the rest the of M1A1's sit there listening while the commanding officers calls on the radio for the update... After the battle the tank was like "Um so sorry about that. I was kinda busy here, but it is safe now to move the unit up....."

    No, we're saying jumping _monster trucks_ with _T-72s!_ The crushing cars part will be about the same. Have you seen the Chieftain (or maybe it was The Tank Museum) video of the Spanish Army tank slalom course that uses cars as obstacles for training Leopard 2 drivers? Yeah, when that much mass moving that fast hooks a VW or Citroen, it just kind of drags it to destruction.

When Iraqi soldiers started using civilian buildings to store ammo and hide troops (because their military infrastructure all got bombed), those buildings stopped being civilian infrastructure and became a valid military target. The remnants of Saddam's regime (and later, religious insurgent groups) were the ones who made the decision to use civilian infrastructure in this manner.

It's just not really useful to use as a space to ground weapon due to atmospheric lensing (basically very millimeter of atmosphere the laser travels through has it's properties changed by the laser, the result is essentially a billion or even trillion little "lenses" that make the laser less coherent and efficient). In space on the other hand, you could precisely target an enemy sattelite's logic board and shoot a laser through it like a micrometeorite and not have to worry about any distance at all.

    Really, they could totally do that, and it would be highly rated and loved by all.
