    the KEL-TEC company recommends to NOT use silencers on their KEL-TEC SU16C 5.56mm rifles because the back pressure pushing the bolt back faster will cause the receiver to crack. Two questions. Question 1: can you show me how to install the factory original sling onto to KEL-TEC SU16 C rifle ? Questions 2: Why can't the KEL-TEC SU16 C rifle be used as a battle rifle ??

    The best function of the bipod is to ground the carbine to deal with mud. I mount a red dot sight and you can extend a bit beyond the rail. I carry my SU16Ca in a baseball bag with a minimal chest carry rig and any extras. Mounting a sling is a challenge but I do have a two position sling. I generally carry this in my truck when I travel...as well as a pistol. I tend to shoot this carbine a lot but would NOT advocate it for bear.

  • @AmbGun

    I should have thought of the mud thing. While we don't get much rain in Wyoming, my favorite shooting playground is the bentonite badlands in the Big Horn Basin. When it get s rained on it's an utter sticky, greasy mess. And I have done exactly as you say, using the bipod to prevent keep the action above the goo. I pretty much gave up on using a sling and carry it almost exclusively in the Eberlestock Mini-Me backpack with a shortened scabbard. And in keeping with it's compact lightweight simplicity, I dropped all optics and ultimately went with Tech-Sights. www.ambgun.com/ambidextral-rifle/backpackrifle

    You’re opportunity cost analysis is similar to one I’ve considered myself. In the end a 10MM Glock 40 with RDS, carried in a HPG chest pack made a lot more sense than a rifle. Mind you, that’s because I’m considering it for self defense inside 50 yards from bears. There’s no sense in carrying a rifle if you aren’t going to shoot past pistol range.

  • @AmbGun

    @AmbGun

    4 жыл бұрын

    Exactly. However, the rifle proponents might claim hydrostatic shock, which our pistol cartridges can't replicate. Looking at 10mm vs 9, I can carry my Hellcat with 48 rounds vs G40 with 15. I love the HPG Runner's Kit bag for mountain biking as long as it's cool. But once it gets hot, I shift to a belt pouch which is not exactly optimal since it requires two hands to draw the pistol (in this case a PF9). Maybe I'll come up with a frame mounted holster some day.

    I think of parallels in the motorcycle world. A Honda dual sport bike is heavy, but will run forever with minimal maintenance. A CR250F motocross bike is much lighter and far more powerful, but without extensive maintenance it'll suffer a catastrophic failure pretty quickly.

    I've never heard it referenced that way. It's not bad as a backpack rifle, just not nearly as good as the "C". For one thing the C can be fired folded. The B requires manipulating an assembly pin before it can fire. Another is that the "B" has a big fish hook of a front sight that would be a snag hinderance.

    A thread protector is just to prevent damage to the threads in case you want to add a muzzle device in the future...and it looks better. I did quite a bit of testing of the RDB without a flash hider, threads exposed...only recently landed a KelTec custom thread protector for it.

    ⚠ I HAVE A ZIP-TIE WRAPPED AROUND THE UPPER AND LOWER RECEIVER OF MY KEL-TEC SU 16C RIFLE TO KEEP THE BOLT FROM HITTING ME IN THE FACE IF THE UPPER RECEIVER BREAKS .

    You could cut away that back of the receiver and the bolt still won't strike you. Just like you can run an AK without the dust cover...and for the same reason.

    There is the camo breaking up the outline thing, but the immediate and noticeable benefit is when spending two days in the bright sun. A black rifle must be covered with a towel to keep the stock from getting too hot to hold, whereas the camo or FDE rifles remain cool enough without a covering. It's the same reason I don't wear black helmets and prefer white.

    4MOA for the combination of rifle and shooter is enough to earn your Project Appleseed Rifleman patch. I earned the score at a Known Distance Appleseed with the SU16c (211 so just barely and I had to take care to keep the rifle out of the scorching sun...this was before I painted it so the black polymer got very hot and flexy). Definitely easier with my BCM where I generally score mid 230's at KD's. Or dueling 22's, the Tikka T1x and Ruger 10/22, at the standard 25 meters, 236 and 235 respectively. Or the RDB and MDR, without using the sling as a shooter's aid, for the high 220's. To get the the score, you have to shoot 4MOA prone...given that I suspect I'm at least 2 MOA of that equation...maybe more, the SU16c must be capable of better than 2MOA intrinsically. Good enough for a super lightweight rifle that folds and fits in a backpack.

    Why don't you focus on what you're doing/going to do with your rifle and not worry about what other people are doing?
