I honestly think online lectures that can be replayed, re winded, paused, fast forwarded and able to come back to and watch at a later time are the future. I find it a lot easier to learn when I can take my time with a video and replay it over and over again until I understand every inch of it. Thanks for the video.

This is awesome: 1) Using the computer for revision, I cannot watch other videos or play computer games 2) Sitting at home listening to a lecturer beats sitting in lecture theatres of the school 3) Videos beat huge chunks of paper notes Thanks and good luck for my UOL examinations in 2 days' time!

A cost focus strategy (aiming to be the lowest price) can be effective. Competitive advantage can be created in two ways: low costs or differentiation i.e. adding value to the product or service (see Porter's generic strategies). It's ironic that he used supermarkets as an example of this not being the case; in the UK, Aldi have achieved a profit of 165% in 2014 and have stolen market share using it's no frills cost focus strategy.

Nice presentation and insightful - however I think the conclusion staying with existing market and existing products (but focus on productivity) is the safe path is a bit to simplistic. Yes it is the most **short term wise** safe money strategy - but more products and broader markets, and innovations can be vital parameter to protect you from more long term threads -- Blockbuster, Kodak, Nokia and many others have followed this stay where you are strategy and felt the pain. What is important is balance in what you do - and then to do the risky stuff in a clever way (making it less risky).

Terrific! nice and simple. However, I suggest adding strategy for positioning to this. Productivity is only half the equation. You also need to balance a unique link of strategic activities to create a competitive advantage because competitors can replicate your "Productivity" - Read Proter's, What is Strategy? (free paper from Harvard Business School).

tesco has nothing to do wti marketing or publishing, personally i dont really get affected by discounts, etc. unless i compare to what i know the lowest rpice to be. I only shop at tesco becasue it is unfortunatly next to my house. That is their true strategy, it has situated itself right next to universitites and work areas, and bought the area around it so that other competitiors can get close... thats why i go to asda only on weekends when i have time to travel 1 hour

Is the statement that price competition.. 'what makes people think they need to compete on price is beyond me'.. Still valid today with the recession and restricted expendable wealth?

It must be, otherwise supermarket chains such as Lidl or Aldi would have grown much more dramatically over the last few years. I like to think it's sort of that American term, "Convenience store" - People shop within different supermarkets for convenience; everything under one roof. So I guess by that standard, factors influencing choice would likely be things like stock, location, size, etc. Saying that, the recent trend (in response to the recession I assume) is to buy less and more often, unassumingly to buy only what one really needs. This is why there has been increased investment in the smaller stores such as Tesco Express.

Doesn't say not to diversify, he is saying before venture in other market explore carefully the option in you current one. Too many times people develop new products instead of making their existing ones better.
