The Anglesey Tope Hunt Continues - Can I Catch a Big One???

Back on the Anglesey rocks in search of a big tope. Weather looked decent for a couple of days so Rory and I headed down to Wales with the big rods in search of our first 'proper' tope. We had two unbelievable sunsets and for the most part the weather was spot on! Managed to get the DJI Mini 3 Pro up in the air for a quick fly down the coast as well. Enjoy.......
Thanks for watching!

    Trust me there aint a blade of grass on the island that I dont recognise I knew were it was in the opening shots! But as I have said it strange to see the way shore fishing has changed is it net sizes EU fishing policies or just the fact commercial fishing vessels can't afford the running costs???

    Hi mate great video. Just wondering do you use fixed spool and braid for tope fishing? I am thinking of converting back from multiplier to fixed spool as there is less to go wrong with them.

  • @mboutdoors_uk

    @mboutdoors_uk

    Hi mate. Yes I use both fixed spool and braid. Mainly because I’ve never cast with a multiplier and have always used fixed spool in my coarse angling. I’m pretty sure I can cast further with a fixed as well. I use 30lb mainline and a 60lb leader. Had no problems all season using this set up. Other than silly mistakes I’ve made but which would have happened whatever I was using. Hope that helps pal, stay lucky 👌🏼

    @@mboutdoors_uk 30lb braid and 60lb braided leader? The trouble with multiplier is a lot can go wrong and you find that you concentrate on thumbing the line back on and setting the reel up..with fixed spool reels just chuck like plug and play. Modern fixed spool reels are a new breed, stronger, excellent line lay and like you said can cast further as they come with shallower tapered spools and are faster on the retrieve

    You could just use the 60lb braid straight through without leader if it is just braid. Also was it a carp rod you used to land the 30lb tope??

    I’ve had all last years tope on a Sonik SKS Black 14ft. I wouldn’t fancy tackling a tope on carp rods tbh. I’ve just respooled with 60lb braid for a Scottish skate so think I’ll stick with that tbh 👌🏼

    @MB Outdoors was just curious as I could only vaguely see the rod at first and thought it had less eyes and thin in diameter but just seen the rods during the last third of the video. 60lb braid sounds good.
