The ACTUAL reason why Nike METCONs are INCREDIBLE

Ғылым және технология

There's a lot of reviews out there of people giving subjective perspectives of the Nike Metcon, year after year. But none that I've seen actually speak on what you're buying, as far as Nike's design methodology, and components of the metcon. In this video, I do just that - I review Nike's method to their madness, to give you a better understanding as to why the Nike Metcon is different than other crosstraining and CrossFit shoes on the market.

This has to be the best review I have seen for these shoes. The breakdown of the design was informative, and going as far as investigating the patent is awesome. So much fluff and hype around so many products looking into the patent can really reveal how much actual new tech is in a shoe. I have a pair of Metcon 6's, they were my first weight training specific shoe, always wore running shoes or Vans, but they do make a big difference. I also have problems with one of my feet/ankles due to an ankle fusion and arthritis, and these shoes really offer great stability and I feel like I've actually gained some mobility from the past year of working out in them. I always had a problem being able to keep my left heel down when squatting or doing leg presses due to the ankle fusion. Now I can go to 90 degrees without any heel lift, which I was not able to due before. I personally am not a huge Nike fan due to all the China slave labor stuff, but in this case I just can't find a better shoe to replace it with. The Reebok's seem to have mixed reviews, and I don't care for the Nobull styling. I think I am going to replace my 6's with some 7's here pretty soon.

Hey Wes, just wondering if you do any significant indoor or outdoor cycling in these. I've been advised to stop using my trail running shoes for indoor biking and weight training, especially as I intend to start doing deadlifts and barbell squats. When I'm not having a trail run and body weight day, I like to do indoor cycling+rowing (cardio) for 15- 30 mins before starting with kettlebells or freeweights/weight machines. Would you recommend them for this role?

100%. However, the idea behind crosstraining shoes is the same as a person who trains in crosstraining. Much like the person, the shoes perform adequately in a large variety of movements, but doesn't excel in any one specialty. They won't be as great as oly shoes, or running shoes, but they will be good enough to get through a workout with a variety of movements.

I feel like the metcons peaked at the 4... Under armour Tribase reign is definitely a better straight up shoe unless you have super narrow feet then definitely go with the metcons or if you need a wider toe box then the nano. But even after 3 iterations the Tribase reign has been amazing, with the Tribase outsole which is also on the project rock 3 and other UA training shoes. With full length micro G the Tribase reign is easier to run in, even with a 2mm drop. Definitely worth a try if you haven't checked it out.

hey bro could you please help me out, i flat feet with a low arch and angles need good support to prevent pronation so I have been recommended acics gel-kayano 27 but that's a running shoe and I do crossfit? can you please suggest a shoe

I have to preface this by saying I'm definitely no expert on footwear. But I would say that there is a difference in running versus crossfit footwear. With all the lifts, there's more of a reason to compress the foot down and splay. I think you should be fine with anything like the metcon, nano, or NoBull. Maybe even moreso the nobulls because they're more like chucks. I did a review on those, as well.

@@WesJH the Nano's and metcons 6 are available in my country 🇮🇳 but sadly nobulls aren't,so i have a option between the nano's or the metcon and lastly according to above i should avoid the acics gel-kayano 27 right? Thanks man! truly appreciate this

@@abhishekrohera I think you'll be fine with either the metcon or the nanos. If you can get the new metcons in your country, that'd be my choice. And absolutely. You do not want running shoes for any weightlifting movements. They have far too much cushion, which can cause instability, poor form, and potential risk of injury. Weightlifting requires a slimmer and stiffer sole.

I really need your advise. I bought the metcon 7 and I am having some severe foot pain. It’s a very hard shoe and I am unable to get it to soften. My feet burn instantly. I can’t help but burn my feet everytime I put them on.

Curious if the burn you're referring to feels more like a muscular burn? If you've never used a less cushioned shoe, it may be just nonuse of the muscles in the feet. I experience this when I do barefoot exercises. Or, could be getting the wrong size shoe. You'd know best if you feel the shoe is the right fit but burns during movements.

@@WesJH thanks for responding. I think you are right. I have never used a less cushioned shoe. So the hard surface of the shoe sits on my feet. After 5mins or less the burn starts. 2 inches below the little foot finger. Maybe weight or maybe new muscle. But when I wear this shoe, I am asking for trouble. How would one get used to it? Shoe size bought a Uk 9. I am 8.5. Loads of heel slip.
