The notion of being here first just cause you commented first is a "myth".

I fully agree with him when he says that empathy or compassion is missing from intellectual discourse. I myself have been a part of it, and it would be false if I say that I haven't used my head in order to feel safe and secure. And in doing that, I must have offended or made somebody feel bad.

My thought process is much like that of devdutt sir, though in a miniscule level

Because if you dont brand them as stupid you will have to listen to their opinion and listening to opinions of others is not a specialty of people who call themselves liberal in India. There are enough people on Twitter on the sane side of right leaning group who have challenged Mr. Patnaik multiple times with difficult questions. It is easier for him to just brand everyone under lynchers and other buzzwords in media than to answer legit questions.

I don't know enough about the right and left wings in India, but from what I've seen on KZread about the USA, the right, with people like Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Dennis Prager is far more intelligent than the left

Devdutt is truly a post modernist. It requires a lot of wisdom and intellectualism to get out of the hegemony of current political narrative. In fact he is beyond any cultural and social hegemony too. Way to go. Everything is truly a myth. A man with an ego will never realise that. Everyone is hell bent in proving their point.

never really thought about left vs right intellectualism this way. I am a complete liberal and open minded person but always fallen into the trap of explaining things to conservatives and never really respecting their background. really an eye opener. definitely going to try to have more empathy towards their thinking. but any ideas how to tackle this argument if they are incapable of listening to you and they just want to lynch you?

It is pretty obvious to anyone who has functioning eyes and ears that those low on IQ points almost always tend to lean heavily on the Right. The Left is visibly dominated by the intellectual kind. Even a militant Leftist would score higher on vocabulary than an average high school graduate. BTW I don't know where you got that idea, but Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris definitely are not Right wing speakers. Both of them are self declared Liberals. Ben Shapiro is a rare intelligent Right winger but definitely isn't an 'intellectual'. He debates well and speaks fast but even I, who's of average intelligence, could find the faults in his logic when I heard him speaking closely and analyzed his speech.

I am from Kerala and so I can tell you that there are very few atheist left-leaning individuals in Kerala or Bengal, it would be the same number, as that of atheists in any other state in India, irrespective of their political beliefs, so that's that.. and therefore your comment on the Right wing as the sole custodian of mythology is uninformed and naive!

Late Atal Bihari Vajpai(Superb Orator), Narendra Modi, late Sushma Swaraj ji, Smriti Irani, late Arun Jately, Sudhanshu Trivedi, Sambit Patra they all are great speakers and there are many more such examples like Arnab Gowswami too :P 2. Every one from Left is Shashi Tharoor?? What about 1984 riots?? What about kerala where RSS people are being killed on almost daily basis?? Kerala governer was stopped from speaking just because he was saying something they didn't like. If you are debunking a guy, you're exactly falling into the trap of right and wrong. If you read his works, the very same thing repeats everywhere : Truth is subjective. You believe that your truth is the only truth and hence the one (here Devdutt) is wrong and a fraud just because his views don't match with yours. Try finding it in yourself to try and live with all those who don't share the same belief as you. It's his myth, his truth. Yours maybe different and it's completely ok. Coming from a guy who completely misinterpreted gita his book "my gita" is the last book in the world i would suggest you to read i have been recently studying various book of philosophy and religions his books are not good and misleading i would suggest you bhagvad gita as it is,if you don't want any gods then zen: it is a mixture of buddhism and taoism and some hinduism concepts but if you want extreme practical philosophy with no gods no religion then stoicism mainly books of marcus aurelius my personal preference will be for zen

So there are people who are left-liberal in thought but when it comes to policies and economy they are not a fan of that. So it's good for the ethic building in the society but not so much when it comes to economy and policy development.

Nationalism has nothing to do with the right wing. Being a leftist does not make you anti national. The right wing somehow believes that supporting bjp=being a nationalist. When in reality, nationalism is not specific to a political ideology or party.

Calling the "left" as intellectual and the "right" as dumb, is a gross over-generalization. Further, many people are just branded as either "left" or "right" by others. There is no standard definition of either "left-wing" or "right-wing". Even among the so-called right-wing, a great deal of diversity in thought is observed.

Academic spaces lack compassion? A cursory Google search will show how Acads are at the forefront of crusading the voices from peripheries and with Indian Acads detained under draconian laws does say a lot about acad spaces being compassionate.

@@Sonakshi111 Not trying to substantiate righteousness of Acads. Perpetrating this notion that Acads idealogue is distant from those for whom they are speaking is far-fetched. One need to understand that Acads esp in 21 Century are at forefront in seeking accountability from institutional actors (which is unfortunate maybe they should stick to their 'armchairs' rather subjecting themselves to state impunity) and this is where I have strong reservation on what is being stated.
