@@MercOne yeah, to a point. How many old super cars and even just high end cars are insanely cheap to buy but brutal in repair costs to own? I feel like it’s a pretty good number. Like think of the tech on old S-class Mercs, you can get an old one for cheap and then spend that same dollar amount on repairs. I believe older cars that can be repaired for a reasonable amount and maybe even at home will hold more value than cars with nearly impossible to repair tech. It’s cool stuff but not sure I’d ever have one out of warranty.

@@mnypit Many of them are, this isn't anything new. Cars have progressed. Someone worrying about repairs on 200K car just isn't the target buyer. Being able to afford a car like this means more than just being able to purchase it. As far as holding value, what you just said has already been happening for years, again nothing new.

Wow, what a machine! We _finally_ get genuine, honest-to-god electro-hydraulic active suspension, which was _'just around the corner'_ in like 1985.
I have a couple year old Panamera Turbo & still absolutely LOVE IT! I have several 2 seat sports cars but the Pan is 9/10 as fun. Since they are somewhat rare most people have NO idea how fast they are. Smoked a new Supra last week, it still had temp plates the owner couldn’t believe he got smoked by a full size 4 door. Happens all the time it’s hilarious! 😂😂😂

I see more Panameras here in California than I do 911s. Theres a sh!t ton - BUT! You rarely ever see top trim models. I’ve only seen a handful of the E-Hybrids. Mostly just base models. I do see 911s often too if that puts anything into perspective, just not as many. I think the SUVs and these are Porsche’s bread and butter. The 911s are now owned by a lot of younger folk or retirees

The cameras are unbelievably smooth, easily the smoothest of any in car shots I’ve ever seen. This suspension is wild
Out of a company for 2 doors mostly, this has always been my favorite Porsche.
I like Panamera's and definitely like this new one. When I used to valet I was amazed that you couldn't tell a difference between a 20k mile Panamera and a 100k mile Panamera. They wear and age good.
When I saw the suspension go over the waves my first thought was that old video of the LS400 with that prototype Bose active suspension. Very cool
Now, imagine if they did a Turbo GT version of the new Panamera...
seeing the body roll in the opposite direction it should was more trippy than I thought it would be.

Mercedes introduced the Active Body Control (ABC) hydraulic (Hydropneumatic) suspension back in 1999 which could keep the car level when turning, braking and accelerating! they were so ahead of their time! I know it had alot of issues and was a pain to maintain, but still..... its awesome..... in the 2006 W221s they totally fixed all the issues with it other than the regular wear and tear stuff, they even updated it to have crosswind detection and compensation the second time around with the W221.... all of that with the regular power supply, unlike here where this suspension feature only comes with the hybrid powertrains that have 400 volt electrical systems.
The only thing that made me go awooga was the motor being in the gearbox now, that sounds silly complicated. I do like the Panamera now though, it looks way better and the ride is mind defying (reverse diving under braking? Mental) Justifies its price a bit. Interesting car for sure!

Great to hear that Porsche dialed it back a little so that it didn’t feel too artificial. Does this potentially replace PDCC and given your past comments about that system, is this new active suspension something that you would actually spec on a sports car or just on a daily?
Matt casually catching a 911 turbo in a 4 door
It’s funny, no one bats an eyelid when Mercedes, Bentley or Rolls Royce price their luxury vehicles at around €350k/$350k up to and over €500k/$500 but when Porsche price their flagship vehicle at €250k\$250k fully loaded, some have called it ‘overpriced’. Also mentioning the cost for the active ride option being expensive. Porsche has always been performance first then luxury, so for this car to offer the best combination of both, €250k/$250k inc. all options is a relative bargain when compared to those other manufacturer’s flagship models. Paying for the pinnacle of engineering excellence that delivers outstanding performance, high end technology along with premium luxury all in one package is well worth it, in my opinion, and is practically unmatched by any other all-in-one sedan solution. Hats off to Porsche, again. Bravo 👏

That suspension is nuts. I have no where near enough money to get one of these. Something you'd probably lease with a full warranty. I couldn't even begin to imagine how much this car would be to get worked on.

I can't wait to see what bentley does with this system. Assuming porsche gives them this suspension setup as Bentleys are just panemeras underneath (essentially). They would probably opt for the total comfort where it doesn't move you at all. Would be wild to experience.

How is this suspension different from the Mercedes Benz set up from the mid 2000's CL SL class suspension because those had nothing but issues. Good Luck...
Matt what are your thoughts on Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid vs the Audi S8's active suspension in terms of comfort and isolation?
Such an awesome piece of kit. I want one now!
one thing that bums me out about most new porsches is that the only decent looking wheels are so big. I dunno why you need 21's on a panamera, and why they cant offer something that doesnt look fugly with more sidewall. not really a comment about this video per se, but a general gripe that includes the new panny. my wifes cayenne has the 21s as well, and they feel heavy -- but its at least a cayenne

If this technology was allowed in Formula 1 it would equalize the aero advantage across most of the grid with the current "ground effect" cars. It was a complete oversight (with historical precedent) that active hydraulic suspension wasn't allowed with the "new" F1 aerodynamic ruleset.

How is this different from Active Body Control from Mercedes other than execution?
will the Macan/cayenne or Audis be getting this suspension option ?
It's called ative suspension. It's been around since the 80s
For those who are interested the suspension is 8000 Euro, a highly specified one is 260 000 Euro.
Wee Matty Farah knows how to deliver the goods.
I think this suspension in a production car is almost as exciting as a 2200 lb carbon-tub hypercar for someone obsessed with handling
Let’s go!
Taycan Turbo GT though 👌
I’m wondering how a 911 would drive with this suspension technology
Quite similar to the eABC suspension Mercedes-Benz offers, and not that different from the ABC suspension on the old CL and SL classes (and older AMG S classes). First generation ABC was quite costly to maintain as it aged, but the second generation ABC used on 2007+ Mercedes-Benz models is decently reliable.
Almost every car enthusiast has seen the Bose suspension videos from 15+ years ago showing an LS400 that floats over every surface while having no body roll or dive under braking. It's super cool to finally see this kind of suspension in a production car, even if it will likely never be cheap and light enough to find its way into a car us plebs can actually afford. I'm very curious to see how reliable it is long-term.
@louisholden5127

Almost every technology filters down eventually. Active dampers were very fancy 20 years ago, but they're now on many regular cars. Ultimately this tech is nothing more than actuators, pumps, valves, and microchips and software etc. and with enough time to smooth things out and enough economies of scale, it will be on regular cars eventually.
e active body control on the new s580 does the same. really crazy feeling
I always wanted the panamera to get a gt3 treatment from porche idk why lollll
It's clear they're proud of it but let's face it: 99% of these will not have this suspension option equipped so it would be nice to see a review with the standard suspension.. Regardless, it looks to be a great car like previous ones though I'm sad about the lack of Sport Turismo.

It's so funny, that Americans complain about the "lack of Sport Turismo".... The fact, that Porsche won't build the Sport Turismo any longer is because Americans and Chinese didn't want the Sport Turismo version. Voila! Americans are the most hypocrititcal customers.... It's so ridiculous. YOU/Americans are one of the biggest reason, why the fantastic Panamera Sport Turismo isn't there any longer, dude! Greetings from Germany
I don't know a single Panamera owner that tracks these cars. Seriously. Even though these are fantastic track cars (I got to experience its full potential driven by a pro at a Porsche Experience Center). I would just skip the new active control feature (which costs a whopping 8K), and buy a base Panamera with some sprinkling of options. Cars have come so far that base options are now nearing 400HP.
Took another sip of the potion, hit that three wheel motion! Sorry I couldn't help myself! Cool tech but just imagine the poor bastard that buys one of these things used in 15 years time and gets THAT repair bill.
i wanna see all this tech trickle down into a sub 2800lbs cayman *drool*
A Citroen DS from 1955 called. It wants to do a comparison.
Better not own one outside of factory warranty.
Hybrids are the future. It combines the best of both worlds with ICE and fully electric cars.
Really cool tech but there is no way this thing doesn’t drop like a rock in value and cost a fortune to own second hand.
