Guntherwerks has developed a reputation for building the best, most coveted 993-based "reimagined" Porsches around. With GT3-like handling, eye-popping low curb weights, and massive power from their Rothsport engines they perform like few other air-cooled cars on the planet. Well now Gunther's got Turbo power. Their new Turbo "Tornado" variant packs a 750 HP 4.0L twin-turbo Rothsport engine and weighs only 2,670 lbs. This is a powertrain validation mule, so it's not finished. It has no interior, the body work isn't quite right, and it's got a cheap crappy wrap on it rather than gorgeous naked carbon. But Guntherwerks asked us to drive it for a week to give them some notes on the setup for the canyons, and we asked if we could film and share our thoughts with you. So here we go.
Guntherwerks provided the vehicle and insurance for this video.

It's amazing that GW is looking for feedback and allowing TST to do a full review of a prototype! Singer won't even allow you to freely review their cars without them having last say in the review. What are they scared of? Major respect to GW. Stellar cars!

As a German i keep learning more and more about apparently there are so many Porsche Enthusiasts in the USA, there are several Tuning Companies focused on Porsche. Never heard of Guntherwerks but always glad to learn about new ones, Singer is American too right? In Germany we of course have RUF, Gemballa, Techart, Speedart etc. etc. Point being, always awesome to see that much Enthusiasm for German Cars in the USA that go and focus with that much Effort on specific Cars or Brands. Singer is British. Ruf is the best others just trying to wave riding. Every real Porsche fan knows Ruf is the best because they grew with a Porsche brand right from the beginning. Gemballa is using Ruf drivetrains by the way. The greatest things are still coming from Germany. Nobody will do and understand better Porsche cars than Germans. Stick to the real things.

German cars in general, but mostly Porsche are widely considered the best cars in the world, by enthusiasts, and normies alike. I have to drive a ton, like 100,000 km a year, so I stick with Lexus, since reliability is my number 1 concern. Even with my bias, I still consider Porsche to be the greatest car brand. Speaking of Japan, have you seen RWB? Some wild Porsche mods coming from them

The editing on this video was very cool. The variety of shorts made it feel high energy and really made the car feel exciting. Great job!
It's so refreshing to see a company like Guntherwerks giving their vehicles to people like you, JWW and Chris to review and give them real feedback. Yeah as far as it comes to boutiqueesk cars in the porsche community singer is hailed as being on the top...but you hardly see them giving their vehicles to review...even knowing it isn't perfect and still has issues to be addressed.

Absolutely epic. Been looking forward to this one
I love this beast, Matt, and I love the way you make it come to life for us mere mortals who’ll never get to drive it.
Gotta love Guntherwerk, literally revolutionized the definition of power- weight. When i think Porsche guntherwerks comes to mind simple
I like the interior the way it is
I've been telling you since you got your Spyder to dump the stock PASM and add MCS dampers to it. You would be amazed at how the good it is with proper motorsport dampers under it , and MCS is one of the best when it comes to keeping a good ride quality. I have the 2-way remotes on my 718 GT4 and it makes all the difference.

Easily the coolest engine bay I’ve ever seen. Rothsport does insane work.
Cool drive Matt! My buddy has a GW Odessey and its an amazing machine and piece of art. So cool to look at all the details. This new car w the turbos sounds cool. His car is NA but has a killer sound also. GW makes awssome stuff.

Matt talks about the ride a few times but that is a big advantage of light cars. Cars this light don’t need excessively stiff suspension.

Gotta be a dual-disc clutch if the spring is that light, the engagement smooth and the torque capacity is that high. Good for them, premium car demands primo components.
Man a Gunther Works 993 or a Singer 964 DLS are my ultimate dream cars either one would make me immensely happy and have a Studie AG G87 M2 for a daily driver
Wild!
The noise that thing makes! Moses sandals!
Sik and I only can imagine the pace this car can hit when on an open winding road. Of course Angeles Crest is a great test. You should take it up to the favorite road, which is also mine. I would like to see it really opened up though.
three words! "ball" "powder" "salesman" !!! 😂
As soon as this car goes into production and someone gives me 1.2 million I’m gonna place my order.
Stellar! I’d love to see Matt drive this back to back with a GT2RS to compare the performance and handling…
holy grail
Insane 993, the first person footage looks like it's sped up even if it's not
That weight with that HP number is scary..😱👍🏽🏁
Sometimes the in car view doesn't always "look" fast, but god dang this thing looks insane during the windscreen shots. Holy Moses.
Looks awesome! Sounded like it was highly detuned though for your test.
Crazy how popular porsches have become in recent times
It couldn’t have been that cold in socal that gloves and a winter hat were needed
The power-to-weight on this thing is berserk. Think about this, it has the power of a Hellcat--in a car that weighs almost a full TON less. Nearly 2,000 lbs less mass! If you lose 500 lbs. of weight in a car, that has profound effects on performance. People pay tens of thousands just to shed 50-100 lbs. via light-weighting carbon packages. Outside of Pikes Peak or top speed runs, it's hard to fathom anywhere you would be able to utilize such power levels. And it has the engine over the drive wheels. Must be a riot when it's not trying to kill you.
Love to see this car when finished against the upcoming singer 935 like car.
We love wild things
I love it when people in SoCal cosplay Winter.

I want that car so bad. As in THAT one. Not a finished out "perfect" version. I'd add a little sound deadening and carpet to the interior and an aftermarket AC system. Then drive it like I give zero fucks about it. Perfect driver spec car.

Was thinking the exact same thing. The only stumbling block is I have around $5 spare for another car, and that's Australian dollars... 😢
Wasn't surprised by the difference in smooth rd to coarse gravel lookout 'wobble'. It's a racecar. Upside is that being so stinkin riché it doesn't have to be the daily.
Dayummmm now that’s a sexy car
That might be the sexiest engine I've ever seen.
All bells, no whistles.
I'm sure its solid, and well engineered, but the Guntherwerk design language reminds me of the Stay Puft marshmallow man.

“Genau!”
God this thing is about to sound so fucking good
The power to weight must be nuts on that.
Is the mule using a Haltech display and electronics?
Yes please
Restomod type builds are just the best. Obviously at this level and budget, a bit unobtainium but the fact still remains I don't get the appeal of buying a new car all specced out with the limitations of manufacturers and their bean counters when you can pick something cool as a base and really make it your own. Not a fan of the wheel design on this but it's also tough to pick great-looking wheels on older body shapes and these at least have the merit of being functional to a fault. Superhypercars eat your heart out. This kind of bucket of kick-ass is where it's at for car people.
Does it come with analog gauges or that screen?
Ah one of the rare time where some rock guards would be good!
If I was filming this video, I would have never parked it on the side of the road where there's dirt everywhere 😢😂
Oh looked distracted driving to set up your suspension on the move. "Phone gets dropped under seat, stuck in nose lift height"
Is there such a thing as a clutch booster? Like a brake booster? Seems like it would be perfect since you are off throttle when clutch is pushed in so you can get vacuum.
Even the steering column is sexy
That was on a tow truck yesterday.
I know there would be a weight issue with it and maybe an engineering issue but if the car was AWD it would be unstoppable
