They are actually usb-c ports supporting hdmi input, likely to stream content from devices to the screens. Doesn't change the fact that they are powered usb-c ports which can be used for charging.

You can tell they're HDMI by the 2 small notches on the inside of the port, those 2 notches line up to 2 small indents on the male HDMI port to help keep the connection more secure. USB-C do not have any such notches. Plus, the bottom corners are angled and the top corners are squared off, not rounded.

Those seated exercises are incredibly useful on long plane flights. Actually a very smart addition to the S580 where someone could be stuck sitting for a long time.

Oh, those poor souls, my heart breaks for them.

Another good part about the removable fridge is that it can be removed and replaced easily if it fails. If it was integrated, the labor would probably be hours to replace in addition to the astronomical price tag of the Maybach fridge itself. It's actually a great idea.

I would think the two toning should not be split by the fuel door at all, because it might be just an angle issue, it can't be straight looking from every angle. They should move the two toning, or move the fuel door in an Ideal World

Yeah, and when did TWO-TONE become the 'distinguished' 'classy' look? And it's not like the top bit is made of a different material or anything? Like, at least the Rolls Royce had a brushed raw metal bonnet becuase it was aluminum, rather than the same steel used for the rest of the car. Two tone cars always just remind me of the cheap fake 'woody' station wagons from my childhood in the mid 80s! Or the period when cadillac was using a contasting coloured 'vinyl' type 'fabric' to cover their regular metal roofs, which I guess was meant to make them look like 'Dropheads'? Interesting that there was a time when it was considered luxurious to have a fake 'ragtop' look. When now, it's usually considered more desireable to have a RETRACTABLE HARD-TOP if you get a convertible... So we went from wanting to make your hardtop look like a convertible, to wanting a convertible, but have it look the same as the hardtop!

The wheels and colour scheme may it look far worse. I've seen it look far nicer on other channels.

I like how when Mercedes decided to reintroduce the maybach name in the mid 00’s, they claimed it was more than just a dressed up s class. Fast forward 20 years, meet the 2021 Mercedes maybach s580.

Doug is not a tech a guy. He did not even mention how old the tablets are in this 2021 ultra luxury car. Huge frame, physical button, looks like a 2016 technology.

That removable refrigerator is awesome, I like the idea of having a chiller in a car but they always take up so much trunk space. This just basically solved that problem by giving people the option

Well, as mimamooo m said; Cooper, Trailblazer, those Suzukis or Renault Captur aren't exactly the same. On those cars, only the roof is in different color. And that's not really a sign of luxury. As these comments demonstrate, it's actually quite common these days.

This technology is old to them and new to us. They spoon feed us. That’s why it’s a business plan. Years in advance they are that’s why there’s a new iPhone(s) every year. They can make all this technology in all cars and cost cheaper but they made races and social classism which makes ppl in different levels. Keeps their system of chaos in order.

They’ll get curbed to hell if you’re not careful with it. Normal wheels will get curbed just on the edge, this one you can curb it anywhere and it’ll look terrible, and it’ll look even more terrible paired with an expensive rim repair bill.

the colouring of this one makes it look like that one older Mercedes you always see around town that ya know needs work/was in an accident, but was bought by an 18 year old who thinks he is a baller, and painted a two tone matte black strip around it with chalkboard paint

I'm not the biggest fan of German cars, but this quality and luxury, this detail workmanship is simply world class with this design

not only can you turn on the reading light on the rear screens, you can adjust the brightness, light temperature, SIZE AND LOCATION of the reading light. This is not only possible but also in some regular Versions of the S-Class and EQS

The two tone paint and wheels make it look like an old car tbh... Still amazing on the inside though

They look like cheap hubcaps that someone put on a clunker to make it look marginally better- just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's good

I know we can't hear it through the video, but I wish you would review the sound system and give an opinion of which car has the best sounding system; and which one has the most bass. You might be surprised this is important to some buyers.

I feel like screens are almost always an eyesore. I'm aware of their functionality but the shape and surface of the screens inevitably clash with an interior as lavish as this one.

Not to mention they are basically the equivalent of a 200$ tablet but with less functionality. Throw in a massaging mall chair feature and some airplane trays and boom, you've got a $200,000 car... somehow?

Bugatti has the right idea. Tech will always date a car, and be the one factor that can make it unusable in the future. It should be as minimal as possible.

If you think about it, it appears the auto manufacturers of today, just discovered the iPad! If you look at modern passenger aircraft, they have had large screen LCD panels for years For car manufacturers there are just learning how to make them look good in cars. It most cases they look out of place. Most people that I know that have there climate control functions incorporated in a slow touchscreen display, absolutely hate it

I’d rather have no screens at all if the best they have is those shitty ones. How much would it have really cost to make a modern UI and a mid tier 60Hz screen. I don’t think the kind of people who buy these cars would mind a few more thousand dollars lol

@@YearsOfLeadPoisoning yes, if I'm ever rich enough to own a car like a Maybach, I'm not going to be sitting back there fucking with screens, I'm going to be simply enjoying the experience of riding in the car. There's no conceivable setting that would need to be adjusted that's SO important that I'd want a screen to do it on.

I love everything about the car with the exception of those rims 😩

Definitely don’t like how some automakers are going away from a radio knob and climate control buttons. Like I have an ‘08 gx470 and the climate is on a screen but the basic controls (temperature, Auto, defrost, etc)are all physical buttons. Because when you are really focused on driving and can’t look down at the time it’s nice to just be able to recognize a button. Very nice car though!

Those wheels look like they were specifically designed for Russian "businessmen".

I see Tyler Hoover purchasing this car in 6 or 7 years when it has 100,000 miles on it. I also see it needing about $25,000 worth of maintenance at the wizards shop to fix all the leaks and broken Tech after depreciation.

I simply love Cars and Bits

That HUD improvement definitely needs to be the next fad for cars in the coming decade.

Personally the Maybach needs a unique design. Can't be looking like a 30K used C Class.

Aw man. This one didn't have the powered self closing and opening rear doors! The one I did a pdi on this week had it. I know it's old tech for rolls, but so cool in an s class. Also it has a maybach dynamic drive setting so its even smoother

Something I think goes unspoken is that cargo space in the car is mostly moot. For anything requiring cargo, you simply have your staff ship it ahead of your arrival, or just... buy the stuff new for when you arrive. That's the kind of wealth we're talking about when you already have a private chaffeur.

And the guys who can afford (old or mid-aged folks who have the money) are not impressed by those cheap lights and silly screens. ONLY a fool would be impressed by a light that travels around the entire car each time you press the button to change the temperature. It's so silly! Thanks to those LEDs and screens, this car is already looking dated within months after release. 🤭🤭🤭

Honestly the lighting instantly made it totally worth the sticker for me

You've done the E38 7 series, and the W140 S-class both best of their respective make ever made IMO, you should try to do an Audi D2 S8 to have the trio of the most insane luxury german cars from the 90's-early 00's

I REALLY don't like the fact that Mercedes just can't let the Maybach brand be it's own thing and remove ALL of the Mercedes-Benz symbols. No Rolls or Bentley has BMW or Volkswagen/Audi on them at all unless you check under the hood or look at the driver's-side doorsill sticker.

They are doing exactly the right thing. Mercedes is being confident that they already produce amazing cars. By making this an S Class variant they reaffirm the special nature of the S Class. S Class, S Class AMG, S Class Maybach. Flagship Sedan, Flagship high performance, Flagship luxury.

Maybach, RR, & Bentley we’re all founded in the early 1900’s but unlike RR & Bentley, Maybach was acquired by Daimler Benz in 1960 and in my opinion have resembles of a Mercedes especially their older models of the 1900’s. BMW bought RR in 2003 & VW bought Bentley in 1998 so it would be kinda tacky to put beemer badges on a already established brand. Benz logos on the Maybach makes sense. 👌🏾

I know the history and I don't care if they did the right thing by Mercedes fans. If it was my money I'd look at the other brands just so I have something special that doesn't at all resemble something that is less special. How many RRs would get sold if they looked anything like a BMW? Why would I want a Maybach that looks like a Benz? It's just MB saving money on production by using a car they already make and modifying it. If I'm a wealthy person spending that level of $$$, I might not want something that isn't as bespoke as possible.

Yes everybody is right it is a dressed-up S550. I can't imagine how much the parts are going to cost for this thing's to fix something like a screen. When something breaks you're going to have no choice but to get it at the dealership I can't imagine how much those prices are going to be.

Yes I do actually there's two sides to this argument. You're right the people who buy this car new aren't going to care about how much it cost and how much it is to maintain. When this car depreciates and it's going to depreciate heavily somebody else with not as much money is going to buy it. All I'm saying is they are a money pit and somebody who is a second or third owner is going to have to find somebody who can fix this car. I'm not just talkin about all the screens that is going to have in it that your normal mechanic cannot fix it is going to have to go back to the dealership and is going to be expensive. Dealerships are littered with these kinds of cars as classes and whatnot that people won't buy because they can't afford to fix them. I'm not talkin about the 1% guys rappers and Rich guys who buy them and then get rid of them after 30,000 miles. I'm talking about everybody else who thinks they're getting a good deal because the car's depreciated a couple hundred thousand dollars and then the next owner thinks they got a good deal and they end up spending tens of thousands of dollars just to maintain it because there's so many things wrong with it. I feel bad for the people who are going to buy this car after sixty or seventy Thousand Miles I feel for them.

That's the ONLY thing I liked in this car. The rest are just cheap thrills and frills, tacky at best and seems to be suitable for children, not grown up millionaires or businessmen...lol

If you listen close, you can hear Rick Ross saying "UGH"

In other English-language reviews, or in the Russian-language reviews from DSC OFF, they say that Maybach and Rolls Royce do not differ in terms of comfort from Rolls Royce, and the back row of Maybachs is completely more convenient. Even Doug himself said in the S class review (223) that he was at the level of a Rolls Royce, and now he says that Maybach is a level lower, I don’t know who to believe

Doug was probably laughing like a maniac the first time he discovered the two buttons for the cup holder

Definitely need to turn on the fragrance after Doug is done with that review! 😜

9:55 the two "USB type C ports" at the every bottom are HDMI ports.

Doug and I have a very different definition of lying flat! That didn't look like it was even at 45 degrees to me. The camera angle makes it a bit difficult to tell, but it sure as hell was not flat. ::))

Anyone else noticed that Doug called the 2 HDMI ports at the bottom a USB type C port? @10:00

5:25 glad to see they included a narrower cupholder so I can sip my Red Bull at optimal chilled temperature while being driven in my Maybach

2013 charger had heated and cooled cup holders with the changing lights too

Can't wait to buy one of these when depreciation hits in 15 years.

The rear passengers each having a button a couple inches away from each other to control the opening of that compartment was so funny!

You know I had a hard time deciding between the 1988 Volga and this… I was on the fence until I discovered the haptic steering wheel thing… So I got the Maybach :-)
