To understand and combat rapid aging, we need to understand what causes aging, chronic diseases, and decline. We call these things the hallmarks of aging-the underlying common pathways or mechanisms of aging. Each hallmark is influenced by the others and affected by various imbalances-too much or too little of certain inputs that can negatively impact the expression and progression of the hallmark. Understanding those interactions and weblike connections is the key to solving the puzzle of aging.
In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I dive into the 10 distinct hallmarks of aging and how to address them. What I’ve discovered has blown my mind and changed the way I approach my own health and the health of my patients. I’ve compiled it all into a new book called Young Forever, which comes out on February 21, 2023. Learn more and preorder the book at youngforeverbook.com.
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens.
Rupa Health is a place where Functional Medicine practitioners can access more than 2,000 specialty lab tests from over 20 labs like DUTCH, Vibrant America, Genova, and Great Plains. You can check out a free, live demo with a Q&A or create an account at RupaHealth.com.

Practically... 1. *moderate exercise/activities, 2. Fasting, prolonged or shorter 3. hot (saunas) and cold (cold showers/bathes) therapy, 4. Eat natural food *moderately. 5. Avoid medications/pills, if possible. Be smart about them... 6. Sleep: Regular sleep, I'd say between 7-9hrs average Ps, A big part is from your parents and how they were/are. Yes, genetics play a part, of course. Keep track: 1. Body fat% (ideally) or weight 2. Blood pressure 3. Resting heart rate / pulse 4. Visceral fat ie. Waist size

I agree. And I like how you emphasized genes from parents. I agree that they play a part, but we can always control those genes. Genes loads the gun, diet pulls the trigger.

@@AnnTsungMD yes, agreed mostly. We can out do some of our genetics/culture rituals/habits, but imo some are very, very knotted. For instance, I was raised on carbs eg. rice, noddle, pasta, like most east Asian. Nowadays, I eat less carbs, but I couldn't go complete keto. I did for like 10 days and gained like 6/7 lbs... I was never fulfilled by meats/veggies only. I have a super high carb tolerance maybe? Anyhow... Another words, we all have a different baseline...maybe just a little to a huge gap. Ie. I can't drink alcohol...my processing isn't good. However, I could down a couple of espresso and fall asleep in 15mins🤭...

Seriously- anybody figured out what are the 10 PRACTICAL steps he/she needs to take tomorrow to increase longevity?? I have listened to this 30 min endless chatter without having any clue, or any thing I need to do tomorrow. So there are… Mtor, zombie cells, protobody (?), nad (?) , mitochondria, micro biome, certuin (?), metforman (?) and all the fancy terms… and it all boils down to the usual worn out --- sleep. Limiting calories, limiting process foods and sugar, limiting stress, exercise… I could have said it in 3 minutes. Or less. without the fancy words. And the excessive PR for the book. And without being a Doctor. Common sense.

David Sinclair takes Metformin as it stimulates longevity pathway It also decreases insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome which is associated why it worked for diabetics Metformin doesn’t “contribute to muscle wasting “ it MAY slow down gains in lean muscle tissue when resistance weight training But the pros outweigh the cons on Metformin and Sinclair just doesn’t take it on the days that he does weight training Metformin will keep your s blood serum free glucose level down and allow nutrients to penetrate cell wall barrier It’s a HUGE longevity help The issue is unless you’re diabetic prescribing it is OFF LABEL So you have to find a doctor who will give it to you even though you do not have type II diabetes Mat doctors won’t do that

Can we all forget LONGEVITY for now. It is not a realistic goal. US has had shrinkage of life expectancy by about a year each years for the past 3. What is the point of longevity anyway. it is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. Our immediate objective has to be to stop the shrinkage of healthspan. World is getting sicker and sicker each year. What I mean is rates of obesity and diabetes are rising and epxected to keep rising. Even ending gluttony seems out of the question and folks here are taking of starvation and famine.
