Young Forever: How to Reverse Biological Aging - w/ Dr.Mark Hyman | The Empowering Neurologist EP158

Ғылым және технология

There’s so much information being promulgated these days seemingly focused on the notion of “anti-aging.” Unfortunately, so much of this information focuses on techniques to allow us to basically appear younger.
But we are now at a level of understanding as it relates to the process of aging where we can indeed intervene to slow or even reverse the process. So, while the clock of our chronological time continues to move forward, our biological age meaning the health and functionality of our bodies, is clearly receptive to modification.
My longtime friend, Dr. Mark Hyman, has written a new book, Young Forever, that focuses on providing us the tools to bring about age reversal. This notion is no longer fanciful, but rather deeply supported in our most respected scientific literature.
Young Forever, not only validates that we can indeed turn back multiple hallmarks of aging, but, most importantly, provides us with the low tech ways to bring this about. This isn’t a book about the latest, unapproachable scientific studies. It’s about what we can all do, right now, to live longer and healthier lives.
Thank you Mark, for this wonderful contribution.

I will be 66 in a couple weeks, and use absolutely no pharmaceutical products, prescribed or over the counter for any reason whatsoever. I am healthier and stronger now than i was ten years ago. About a year and a half ago, i changed the way i ate. I began eating just one good meal per day, eating real whole foods and drastically limiting sugars, carbs, processed and fast 'foods'. I lost about 60 pounds of excess fluids and body fat in the first 2 - 3 months. I also reversed every chronic health condition that plagued me for decades! I was no longer obese. Gone was my fatty liver condition. The edema, or swelling in my feet and lower legs was gone. My cellulitis was gone. My occasional hypertension was gone. The frequent late night urination stopped. My COPD symptoms were gone, and i still smoke modestly. Imagine that. I also suffered with peripheral neuropathy in the feet. That was the most stubborn condition, but that has also finally subsided. My testosterone levels increased, and i stopped losing teeth. The teeth that remain are stronger and healthier. I doubt i will ever lose another tooth, and would bet the farm that my bones are also stronger. My hair and skin are better. It is like aging in reverse! I also do get exercise, but that had nothing to do with the weight loss. I do walking, yard work, squats, push ups and light to moderate weight training to name a few. I do these things to maintain strength and muscle mass. I have been trying to help others who want to lose weight and get healthier - whoever will listen that is.

Did you give up coffee? I would find it difficult to do that. I try for one meal a day of real food but I do have coffee with a little heavy cream earlier in the day. No sugar, just a splash of heavy cream. It does break intermittent fasting but since I eat my meal at about 5:00 I allow it.

I eat healthy foods but I can’t seem to figure out how to get myself to an optimal level of health after recovering from so many issues as a child. I think that long time antibiotic use and getting put on birth control by my doctor as a young teen is what really messed me up. 39:00 the comments regarding the economic impact should be expanded - while Mark may be focussing on 'older people living their healthy life longer' the fact that the chronic, costly (in every term, economic, human, etc) impact is happening at an ever decreasing age - children with liver disease, young adults experiencing multiple chronic conditions. Entire, emerging generations are at risk.

Two of my favorite sources of health and medical information together - what a great pairing! I was watching this while I was on the treadmill, so I had the closed-captioning on in case I couldn't hear something. As often happens, many of the medical terms were butchered, but I knew you would want to know that at 30:54 the CC says "too much of stuff can be harmful as certainly too little candy" - as ironic as you giving the woman on the plane sugar and orange juice. Thank you for this great information.

I know one woman who became a personal trainer in the last 5-6 years I hadn’t seen her in a while she looks like a different human being. Very vibrant looking. The old her I would describe as more inflamed in appearance. I’ve seen some people go down the tubes too. Very aged and puffy looking.

I watched your video and was not surprised to see that you recommended nuts, seeds, olive oil etc. my question is this: Dr Mir Ali, in his video “The Untold Story of Plant Cholesterol” says that is one is on a statin the uptake of plant cholesterol (in particular the bad seed oils) is increased. He also says that the human body is best designed to handle animal fat but if on a statin uptake is also increased. I am a 70 year old female who had a heart attack two years ago. I was put in a dose of Atorvastatin 80mg but as I learned more about it I reduced the dose to 40 mg about a year ago. Of course I informed my doctor who was not really in agreement. As a matter of fact they make you feel like you will surely die if you discontinue a drug that chalks up your arteries (I believe this is what my cardiologist called it stabilizing my plaque ???). It also causes diabetes, dementia, depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. It is my understanding that it does not reduce small particle LDL or if it does, depending on who you are listening to, it also reduces large particle LDL and now they say HDL. Not to mention the fat soluble vitamins that are necessary for heart health, get flattened by statins. Can you do a video addressing this issue. I know it is a hot topic but there are so many of us that need the truth on this matter. Please help

You had a heart attack, you are actually some who can benefit from stating. If you have plaque, lowering ldl will help. The only ppl who don't benefit from statins are people with cac scores of zero or extremely low for their age. That's not you. Do low carb diet and keep your ldl low. It has taken me 20 years to finally understand this.

Acid from animal products causes cancer to grow. Once is a while I eat a prawn or two, but other than that, I stick to plant-based, organic, high fiber, low fat, low protein, no sugar or processed foods. I eat flax seeds, take melatonine Vit D3, Enzyme Q10 and others. My Oncologist is totally impressed, because my cancer recurrence risk is now less than 4%, and I am in my mid seventies, so to me, that seems pretty good. Could do with riding my bike more though, and still need to lose more weight. So far so good!

Such an amazing talk. Thank you! Ultimately God is the one who decides has written down the number of our days. But if we can do our part not to waste precious days and nights by doing or eating destructively and die a premature death. Nor were we made to one day die. I guess in our inner most core we know that. But we believe in Jesus, we will live even though we will die. Halleluja. I'm sure that also glorifies the almighty God when we take care of His temple 🥰

Great interview. Yesterday I accompanied my husband on his visit to a neurologist. He had a bad reaction to allopurinol and one of the after effects was burning on his arms and legs. The doctor took out his RX pad and suggested Cymbalta and or gabapentin. As a believer in Food is Medicine I was taken aback. “Not one question about our diet and exercise?”I said to him. He ignored the diet reference but said “ Exercise is good. Just read a study that said 30 minutes of walking a day can cure migraines.” Well duh, now do some research into what actually makes the body function! Food! How long will it be before our doctors get on board?

Not a criticism, but I want to inject more health into my years rather than more years into my life. The idea of living longer as long as I am youthful and healthy is great, but the idea of having a longer geriatric phase is not necessarily appealing to me. At the very least, it would definitely change my retirement planning significantly. Believe me, I'm not knocking this because as a health care practitioner, I see many people who are prematurely aged. As a society, if these people were healthy and productive longer, it would have a good impact on the greater good, as well as their own quality of life. However, healthy and spry can still have a tipping point to where you can go from enjoying life and just ticking off days on the calendar. Furthermore, every day on the calendar has a price tag attached. I would have to work until I'm eighty or more to support a life that goes decades beyond that.

Hyman says he is biologically 42 but he looks at the very least 60. I think the way they measure biological age is still not very accurate. Not saying he isn't in great shape for his age but there is no way in hell he is 42 biologically.

No, because Perlmutter and Hyman are clickbait chasers with their anti-aging claims. Is this nutrition or magical skin cream. Books written by Perlmutter and Hyman have received very low scores for scientific accuracy. Just because they sell a lot of books doesn’t mean they aren’t filled with shite.

@@kmjdebay I can watch whatever I want and that's none of your concern. Do you only ever consume media from people you agree with? Most likely. That's the problem with this world. Do you practice the things they recommend? Do you eat one meal a day? Do you avoid added sugars and processed foods? Do you get reasonable exercise every day? I can't speak to the validity of all of their claims but looking further up in the comments there is anecdotal evidence to support it. Many have had significant changes to their health and function. It is also reasonable to assume that not eating added sugars, avoiding pro-inflammatory seed oils, eating less frequently and moving more will indeed restore function and health. A lot of the sicknesses we suffer from are due to the foods we eat and our habits. Science has known for a long time that restricting calories can prolong healthy life. That doesn't mean going hungry but it does mean some degree of intermittent fasting and fasting in general for autophagy. Dr Jason Fung has material on this as well. I wouldn't rush to throw everything out on the basis of some possible exaggeration.
