The 10 Lost Tribes of Israel - Are They Really Lost?

After Assyria's brutal invasion, the 10 northern tribes of Israel were exiled and scattered among the nations. Over the years, many groups have claimed to be descended from the lost tribes of Israel; however, the Bible does not use that phrase. In this video, Biblical archeologist Joel Kramer helps to explain both biblically and historically why they are the "not-so-lost tribes of Israel."

Seeing the wall of Nineveh in person was an incredible sight. In 2004 I was in Mosul as an Infantryman and I was blessed to see many things in the bible. Before ISIS destroyed it, I was able to see Jonah's burial site as well. I was able to see Babylon on my second deployment and the tower of Samarra. It's a soul shaking event to see these things in person when you read about them in church as a child.

I watched this months ago and it absolutely rattled me. I watched it again, and then a third time with my husband - he was also shaken. The idea that these kinds of events actually happened, or even could have happened, was never taught to me in my Christian upbringing. I used to think most "bible stories" were poetic and allegorical; inspired and without error, but usually not historical. Thank you for correcting this assumption and bringing an entire new dimension to my faith, you've started me on a journey. Already in 2 Chronicles 11, immediately after the division, the levites and the priests and people from every tribe left the North and came to Jerusalem for refuge. 2 Chronicles 11 13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel agreed with Rehoboam and joined him.14 The Levites left their grasslands and their own fields and came to Judah and Jerusalem. The Levites did this because Jeroboam and his sons refused to let them serve as priests to the Lord. 15 Jeroboam chose his own priests to serve in the high places, where he set up the goat and calf idols he had made. 16 When the Levites left Israel, the people in all the tribes of Israel who were faithful to the Lord, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their fathers. 17 These people made the kingdom of Judah strong, and they supported Solomon’s son Rehoboam for three years. They did this because during that time they lived the way David and Solomon had lived.

In the morning he calls them and they all go out. He goes out before them, and the sheep follow him as they know his voice. Fascinating to watch this while reading how Jesus is the Shepherd and we are His sheep, and we don't follow strangers, but will flee from them.

This video is actually incomplete. He didn't mention that the kingdom of Judah was actually conquered and the southern tribe of Israel escaped to Africa. You would have the impression that the tribes of Israel remained in Israel after all if you are to believe this video. But no, that is not the case. All the tribes of Israel were conquered. First the northern tribe and later the southern tribe of Israel. He chose the bible verses to discuss and the whole story was skewed. People watching this video would think that the tribes of Israel stayed in Israel and never left Israel. Wrong. In fact, the northern tribe of Israel never returned to Israel. Everyone who lived in northern Israel after the conquer of northern Israel are replacements and not the real Israelites.

This makes a lot of sense, because the Scriptures never call the 10 tribes lost, it does call them “Scattered.” Also in 1 Kings 14:15 and Zephaniah 3:9 it shows that they were Scattered beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, which is West, Central, and Southern Bantu tribes of Africa, which were also scattered to all the nations of the earth

@@wrathofel2796 Well… _someone_ is confused. Let’s look at what Matthew 10: 5 _actually_ says. “ _5 These 12 Jesus sent out, giving them these instructions: “Do not go off into the road of the nations, and do not enter any Sa·marʹi·tan city; 6 but instead, go continually to the _lost sheep of the house of Israel_ .l 7 As you go, preach, saying: ‘The Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’ “ With those words Jesus started a teaching campaign in an effort to reach the hearts of his fellow Jews. Notice he didn’t mention _10 tribes_ but the _lost sheep of the house of Israel_ . Why did he call his fellow Israelites lost sheep? Matthew 9:36 says of Jesus :” 36 On seeing the crowds, he felt pity for them, because they were skinned and thrown about like _sheep without a shepherd_ …” The religious leaders of his day , the Pharisees and Sadducees, abused their privileges in the Jewish faith and dominated the _amharets_ (the common people) Of them Jesus said : “ 2 The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. 3 Therefore, all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but they do not practice what they say. 4 _They bind up heavy loads and put them on the shoulders of men_ , but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.” ( Matthew 23 2-4) So what happened the ten tribe Kingdom of Israel? “ 17 In the 12th year of King Aʹhaz of Judah, Ho·sheʹaa the son of Eʹlah became king over Israel in Sa·marʹi·a; he ruled for nine years…..5 The king of As·syrʹi·a invaded the entire land, and he came to Sa·marʹi·a and laid siege to it for three years. 6 In the ninth year of Ho·sheʹa, the king of As·syrʹi·a captured Sa·marʹi·a. _He then led the people of Israel into exile in As·syrʹi·a_ and made them dwell in Haʹlah and in Haʹbor at the river Goʹzang and in the cities of the Medes.” (2 Kings 17) The Bible tells us _exactly_ where the ten tribes ended up : scattered throughout the Assyrian Empire.

I think you have confused things. The nation of Israel split into two--Israel and Judah. The history of their nations and different kings as well as their destruction and scattering is incredibly plain in the books of Kings 1 and 2. The Jews are descendants of the nation of Judah, which consisted of mainly the tribe of Judah and Benjamin, but also their priests made of the tribe of Levi. A few from the other tribes were in the nation of Judah, but there were fewer of them. The nation of Israel was conquered and taken into captivity, and described to have been taken into the northern countries. This is all biblical, which you can read yourself. The reason they are called lost is that we don't know what happened to them after Babylon conquered everything, and they were conquered by Persia. Personally, my view is that those of the nation of Israel were sold as slaves and traded within the empires, their people eventually being assimilated into the other cultures. They probably carried some of their traditions with them, but as a whole society, they are lost. However, I also believe the gathering of Israel is a spiritual gathering and an awakening to truth. I don't expect Israel to march in from some hidden enclave. And we have to wonder what Israel was chosen for? They are not better than everyone else, as the Bible clearly shows all their follies. You could say, they were chosen as an object lesson to us all, and a bringer of a record that would allow the world to recognize the truth. And... they are not done yet.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks for stating it so plainly, and in my opinion, correctly. Seems many of the tribes dispersed after being moved to Assyria are said to have taken a common path through the Caucasus Mountains, and went west - towards Europe. There is much documentation on this possibility, and even names of towns for the Israelites that passed through and occupied during this trek/diaspora. Seems kind of exciting to me, that those of European ancestry might very well be part of the 10 tribes. All will be revealed when we finally see Him.

And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
