The more literate you become, the closer you are to understanding truth. But at the same time, the more literate you become, the closer your will can become biased to certain theories, instead of really believing in the actual truth. And end up making an image of God and believing in such a variant of God that doesn't exist. Knowledge comes with it's own risk. Knowing about something isn't just about knowing the facts, but also about controlling yourself and not letting your inner will bend to choose as "truth" the theory you like the most or think is more appropiate, over the one which is correct and truly expressed in the bible.

The test of a good theologian is not whether they can cite their favourite systematics or discriminate between an-en-hypostasis, but whether they desire to serve the Church. The rest is all so much noise. Theology is worship. And a theologian ought to glorify God with his skills by serving the church - humbly, meekly, with an awareness of his own sins. it's probably because after RedeemedZoomer had his debate with Jay Dyer a lot of his followers have converted to Orthodoxy, he ended up banning a bunch of Orthodox people from his server and making it bannable discussing it from what I have gathered so far in the comnents. He also made a very condecending video towards orthodox people where he made a comment that went something like "may the fruits of the Orthodox people in the comment section make up your mind of the church" or something like that. I and many other people commented on how self refuting that claim is as his church is according to him filled with a bunch of heretics and he wants to change his church. Just watch the full debate between Jay Dyer and RZ and make up your mind about who is right from that.

@@jayy7842 No. First of all he says that Calvinism is stage four of theology, and if that's linear then that means everybody becomes Calvinist at some point of their theology which isn't true, same goes for stage nine. On top of that people choose to keep their faith very personal, some develop more liberalized views, some don't go to church/belong to a denomination, etc. As for the second point, yes you're right. That's why it isn't extremely correct to use a broad term to describe only one religion. If he said 'Christian theology' it wouldn't be as misleading

Lol this is so relatable. I’m an apologetics obsessed Roman Catholic, my best friend’s wife is former mainline Protestant now non denom, she has attended hundreds if not thousands of bible studies, he is a brand new christian and admits he knows nothings, and my wifes been a christian her whole life but never read a single chapter of scripture. All i care about is proper theology and getting as many people on board as possible. My best friend just doesnt want to go to hell, his wife loves jesus hates religion, goes to church every week but doesnt believe in the church as an institution, and my wife just wants to avoid any and all talk of religion, god, or the bible. The only people in my life that even care about scripture just constantly try and fail to debunk catholicism. Its so strange its like they have interventions for me but none of them are interested on apologetics so when i slice and dice their arguments they just look confused. Like this was supposed to be you guys saving me from this cult but you dont even know what the arguments even are! You cant even define cult, you cant even show me by your own standards where im wrong. In fact, let me show why Protestantism is false….. oh they dont want to hear it. Wheres the rapture in the bible? How about penal substitutionary atonement? Ph you never heard of it? Well why do you believe it? Oh you didnt know your church even taught that? Cmon dont try me try lotto!

admitting you know nothing is the first part of being a Christian, so i'd glad your friend's wife has at least started on that road. humility is important Due to the fact you seem somewhat hostile to some protestants, i want to show another point of view. i would argue that the catholic church authority also has its struggles it falls into. any organization that gets "too big to fail: struggles from corruption. its not that God is at fault, but bad elements will always seep into a overwhelming organization, and pride can get in the way sometimes. its why several church organizations (both catholic, protestant and orthodox for that matter) have had pedophilia scandals in the past, because bad actors realize that they can get protection if they are a priest/pastor/whatever rank, and the church authority, either out of wanting to protect public image, personal pride, fear, and more enable these things to happen directly or through a blind eye policy. this isn't to bash catholicism as a denomination, as faith is never the problem, the struggle is when tradition and church organizations take more precedent over real faith and a relationship with God. its why there are so many people in eastern europe that only go to church because of its tradition and not because they actually believe in what is even being preached!

@@sovietunion7643 I dont belive were too big to fail. I just think were the church Jesus promised to be with until the end of the age. I think if you look at our contributions to society, youll see the good fruits of that massive tree. Were the worlds most charitable institution, we run more medical facilities and orphanages than anyone. We help in every single disaster, and dont charge a penny for exorcisms, baptisms, holy water etc…. Im not hostile towards Protestants at all i find it kind of funny that out of all that you came away thinking i was the aggressor. People in my family, friend, and work place are all coming at me! I was a Protestant most of my life. Baptized Methodist as an infant to a family full of preachers, lay ministers, and bible school teachers. Church was our life growing up but our church quickly got woke and went from hundreds to dozens in the congregation after the 90s. The last service i went to they were having the kids sing lady gaga along with jesus loves me. My conversion to the catholic church is a long story and kind of irrelevant here but suffice to say after our church closed most of my family stopped going to church altogether. I moved to colorado where i got into Presbyterian calvinism and somewhat into the reformed baptist pastors online. My conversion came out of left field, where i live there are no catholics at all. Not a church for about 30 mins from where i live, then an additional hour to get to a large church. Nobody in my family ever went catholic, none of my friends were, i wasnt watching catholic youtube videos, it came after a really powerful dream and then a year of hardcore catholic study into the history, doctrines, saints, modern catholic apologetics vs classic thomistic apologetics , tracing development of doctrines through history, read books from apologists, and watched endless debates against catholics. Like i said im my original comment, my family is already trying to save me from catholicism, they are pastors and lay ministers. They never apparently read in scripture that you should confess your sins to one another. They didnt do too many sermons from James obviously, what Protestant church is going to preach: “we are saved by works and not by faith alone?” They never added up Jesus renaming simon to the rock, they never thoight about what paul was warning them when taking the Eucharist unworthily, they never stopped to wonder, if jesus says my body is true food and my blood true drink, that he could actually mean it. They dont care about the didache saying you should confess before taking the eucharist. They dont care about ignatius, clement, augustine, or what justin martyr have to say about the church. They dont care at all about the history… my best friend’s wife knows that if he learns any of that stuff he’ll probably go catholic so shes begging me not to talk to him about history, theology, or defend my faith. The problem is, hes learning about it on his own and from terrible Protestant sources. I defend the church, show him why the anti-catholic myth is wrong and where it comes from. Then his wife whos done thousands of bible studies wants to bump in. “Oh yeah where does it say to pray to saints!?” This again. I show her in revelation where the saints have bowls of incense that they burn offering the prayers of the world to god. I said “how do the saints get the prayers to offer to god? Do you pray to god alone, he then gives that prayer to the saint, the saint then offers that prayer to god along with any others god gives him? Or do we pray to the saints and they offer that to god like we believe, and fits with scripture?” She was pissed! So am i the aggressor? Should i just close my eyes, not defend my church when shes attacked? For the sake of popularity? What would you do if you were in my situation and everyone around you were catholics and they were constantly attacking your beliefs? Trying to wake you up from this Protestant cult, dont you see faith alone isnt biblical? Dont you see sola scriptura is not biblical? Show me in scripture where it says you should interpret scripture on your own? The bible says if he will not listen to the church, let him be a gentile and tax collector, why do you guys replace “church” there with scripture? Which “church” is supposed to settle these disputes? In matthew 25 jesus lists a bunch of good works the man failed to do as reason for rejection. I could go on and on all day. I dont want you to deal with these problems, im just showing you what its like for me. I stay humble, i dont push my catholicism on them, but they heavily do that to me. I dont attack, they do. I defend with gentilness and respect, they attack with ruthless aggression and irreverence. Does it make me frustrated? Yeah. My wife thinks i should leave the church to avoid the fights with everyone, just be a regular christians she says. My best friend is gonna end up catholic if he doesnt stop trying to dispeove my faith, and his wife needs to chill. She doesnt know half as much as she thinks she does.

I'm feeling pretty called out with level 7 lol I have a really hard time reading, and I really enjoy how people interpret things differently. So listening to a bunch of people talk about the same verse is amazing to me and I feel like it helps me understand the verse better than I ever could by just reading it. Vids on Christianity have been one of my favorite things to listen to for years and it's where most of my understanding comes from, aside from personal work with god and occassional attempts to read the bible lol I think it's really important to guard yourself the more "academic" you get. It is VERY easy to become blind to biases the more complicated tge language gets, and to get prideful believing you "get it" when you actually don't. A lot of science lovers/atheists fall into that trap, too! Remember, victors write history, and they're STILL rewriting it, and academia is the WAY they do it. That's not to discredit the work, but to remind people that there is a LOT more bias and external influence in that field, and we TODAY can see gross mishandling of information. It's important to remember how much easier it once was to hide "contradictory information"

I hope the reformed people have a revival, theology is essential to know, it’s a MUST, but they focus on the ink too much instead of love. As a Presbyterian calvinist I saw myself turning into a pharisee that thought he was superior than other Christians because of my Calvinist. God has been humbling me and showing the issues with the Reformed churches. We need to be more loving, more open to other churches because we’re all the Body of Christ. Their salvation isnt changed because of their Armenian views, and their biblical ignorance. Through his Grace and Faith, ALONE!

I had a very humbling experience once reading the letters to the churches in chapter two of Revelation (not a promising opener but I swear it's not conspiratorial 😂). Basically, the first church John writes to is Ephesus, who he commends for their sound doctrine and resistance to bad teachings, yet Christ threatened to remove them from being a church if they didn't repent of their lack of love. The last church he writes to in the second chapter is Thyatira, who he commends for their works of love and their zeal, but Christ threatens to inflict punishment on many of their members because they were allowing false prophets and immorality to poison their church. It was so shocking and humbling for me when I first made the connection, because Ephesus had great intellectual prowess but it wasn't good enough, and Thyatira was very loving but it wasn't good enough. Ironically, if they could learn from each other they would have what they each lacked and be truly pleasing to God. Sound doctrine is no substitute for love, and love is no substitute for sound doctrine.
