A couple of things people don't realize about this story. First off Dashie is not Rainbow Dash, she is essentially an OC. When she came over to the human world she was de-aged and had no memories of the pony she used to be. She grew up with a whole new set of memories. In fact at the end when Dashie goes back to Equestria Twilight suppresses Dashie's memories to bring back Rainbow Dash's memories. Dashie essentially dies at the end so Rainbow Dash, the Element of Loyalty, can be returned to the good fight. I have a Tear-Jerker classification system from 1-5. 1 being wet eyes only and 5 being snot, blubbering, and fat tear tracks down the face. Every time I watch StormXf3 mini movie I get hit with a Class 5. The fanfic only hits with a 3.

I remember printing out this fanfic as a kid and showing it to my mom and then later being horrified that the fanfic has the word "shit" in it. I took out a whiteout so the sentence said "same STUFF, different days" but the existence of a swear word in my wholesome my little dashie story saddened/scared me so much I threw it away

Awww😭. I would've done the same thing, if I even recognized it as a curse word. I once took a warrior cats quiz and at one point it said "f**k you Tigerstar!" Censored just like that. I showed it to my mom and asked her what it meant. She freaked out and told me it was a very very bad word. I started crying and tried to give her my tablet to take away because I felt like I did something horrible.😭

I’m not even an enormous fan of the show, but Rarity’s actually one of the main characters I find myself liking. If anything, her demeanor makes her feel a little less “perfect waifu material” and more of a “person” if that makes any sense. I honestly think Fluttershy is bland, not too interesting, and borderline Sue-ish due to how “cutesy-wootsey” she is with her whole “OMG, I’m a sputtering moe wallflower who’s anxiety exists only to appeal to those who think that passes for cute! Love me!!!”

I was the target demographic (little girls) during the shows airing and fluttershy helped me a whole lot with embracing shyness and that sometimes im not gonna be able to make everyone like me. I dont 'need' to like big crowds and having the spotlight in order to have a fufilling social life. Im not saying youre obligated to like fluttershy, but the show never depicted her as desirable...?

I mean... I can understand getting pissed off when someone insinuates that you are being romantic with your adopted daughter, but going full "oh I OUGHTA KICK YOUR ASS" is a bit much.

When I was deep into the pony fandom back in the day, I remember thinking My Little Dashie was bad..... I still don't think it's amazing, but I can at least appreciate it for what it is these days instead of being an edgy teenager who thinks not having emotions is cool. It is pretty refreshing to revisit something that old and NOT have it contain some weird undertones.

I remember this one video of a guy who was doing a reading of it. At the start he was all like, "I've heard that people get all emotional over this, what wimps," and you gradually get to see him go from disinterested and vaguely mocking to crying to the point that he can barely read it. Good times.

I swear I remember reading the script for the full length My Little Dashie movie a decade ago. I'm not surprised nothing ever came of such an ambitious project but it's a shame it never went anyway.

Do any of you guys remember (if you were here for the early days of the fandom like around S1 and a bit of S2) how Equestria was seen as this utopia and wonderful place to live in (I remember this brony song my highschool friend used to play called "we are a long ways from Equestra" lmao) But as the show went on we got to see more and more dangers that these ponies had to deal with and how just helpless they are against it Like dang the fact that Equestria survived this long and these ponies manage to have functioning towns is beyond me Timber wolves alone look like they are a constant threat

That was my take on it, tbh. there was a small number of people that would often call it cringe and such just because they had that in mind. I kind of wondered if there was a bit of self-awareness during the writing of the story where the author was afraid people my assume it would go in that direction.

I mean, it is, but it’s also very overtly aggressive and violent in a way it doesn’t need to be. Getting frustrated that a stranger assumed your dating your adoptive daughter is one thing, wanting to and being portrayed as very nearly enacting violence due to that assumption is something else. He could have just, made a passive aggressive comment, instead of(atleast in the animated version) make Rarity feel like she was about to be assaulted. It’s also Rarity, the comment itself makes sense from Rarity, but any other character could have made a similar comment and probly wouldn’t have been met with so much vitriol. Rarity, like many other Uber-Feminine Diva Characters who aren’t villanized, got a lot of and still gets some irrational hate for being a female character who is a Diva. It would be entirely unsurprising to me to learn that the author specifically made Rarity say that so they could be unnecessarily violent towards a fictional character to quell some insecurity they have.

He keeps her around to keep her safe and loved but also to make himself less miserable and more happy, and even an obviously sarcastic jokey comment from Rarity in the moment where he knows he's gonna loose RD forever made him rage

@Goat89013 I would consider that and also with the fact that he doesn’t have the context to know that they spent only 15 days to find Rainbow while he spent 15 years. So Rarity does come off as insensitive due to his perspective being that Rainbow was left stranded for too long. Bottom line. Not a random Rarity hate thing.

It goes without saying that "My Little Dashie" is one of if not THE most emotional mlp fanfic ever written and to be adapted into a fanmade short film! Almost anyone who watches it just can't keep from turning on the water works when they see it, Hell to this day I still watch it whenever I need a good cry!

I remember watching this when I was like 6 years old and getting so sad because of it that I couldn't watch any MLP: FiM episodes without skipping the parts with Rainbow Dash. Good times.

Ok so, back when the fic was still fresh on everyone’s mind in the community, I never read the story in its entirety, only recaps. However upon reading them it still made me feel a negative emotion I’ve never felt before. I didn’t cry like most people have claimed. I had no idea what that feeling was, but I now I think it was regret. Keep in mind I was a simple 12 year old with ADHD and middle school was awful. But that fanfic will forever stick with me.

When I was a kid and stumbled across this story I cried for days , and I’m hardly exaggerating

@@christopherbravo1813 It's a "ponies come to Earth" kind of story, set around a holy artefact named the Titans' Orb, which keeps the pony world of Equus safe from interdimensional threats. After a villain from Tartarus escapes his cell, he breaks the Orb into six pieces, and sends them to Planet Earth, scattering them across the globe, to which Twilight and her five friends are sent to retrieve it. Told in the first-person perspective from a human named Callum, he is chosen as the ponies' guide and protector, and he eagerly accompanies them to find all the pieces. The story is a gritty one, aimed at an older and/or mature audience, and it touches on a lot of heavy subjects, and also serves to bring realism and deeper worldbuilding to the ponies and their home. That's the long and short of it. It's now a novel series, currently coming to the end of the 3rd book, with another two (possibly three) planned to follow.

Each book is 30 chapters long, with chapters ranging between 5,000 and 10,000 words. The long-term plan is to make audiobooks out of them, and a handful of limited paperback editions, but I likely won't do that until I've finished the story, which won't be for a handful of years yet.

Everytime i hear about My Little Dashie all I can think about is that one gruesome "pony care game" called Joy Pony, a game disguised as one of those classic tomadachi type games like Pou or The My Talking Tom games. In reality though, it was a foal torture simulator, although, it was your choice if you wanted to do such horrible things. I'm not sure if My Little Dashie started the trend which led to this game, but it seems so as when I got into the My Little Dashie it didn't take long for me to unfortunately witness playthroughs of the Joy Pony game, and not the good kind. My most vivid memory of it was someone suffocating the baby pony (which was rainbow dash. I'm not sure if you have made a video about Joy Pony, but I'd definitely like to see it, I have no idea how many people know about this game and I think it was definitely a result of the clashing themes of My Little Dashie and the iconic pony gore animations.

I haven't thought about My Little Dashie in years it was one of my favorite fics when I was younger for just sorta the heart warming feel it had. It didn't make me cry but it did hit me in the feels at that time and yeah sure its cheesy maybe a little bit dramatic for what it is but honestly its harmless and well meaning, it standed out nicely from the more grim dark stuff so its a nice little pallet cleanser overall.

pony meets world was really amazing! the first season was the best in my opinion. It was not to serious and has more goofy and chaotic moments

you'd think a fanfic with the premise of "brony adopts filly rainbow dash" would be pretty Yikes but it's really clean lol. like one of the top reviews for MLD on letterboxd descrbes the part with rarity as "the part where the pony Rarity cheekily suggests that sad incel Real-Life You are romantically 'friendly' with Rainbow Dash™" and honestly that's kind of a fucking reach?? although i gotta admit that i'm super dense when it comes to Implied Romance/flirting/etc lol, it just comes off as rarity hatred to me.

It always felt like he was going to date his child with how weirdly it was written. I was always uncomfortable as hell with this fic, even as a kid.

i actually refused to watch this video for a couple months because every time i remembered My Little Dashie i would tear up i loved mlp as a kid but something about this series is soo insanely nostalgic and beautiful that it makes me lose my breath genuinely don't even know if it holds up its just such a fond memory edit: i should clarify the one that made me cry was the monkey parody. deadass i love it soo much

The story did stick with me, read it in either 2012 or 2013, I know it was before season 3's compleation at the very least. Took about a year for me to find another story that would get me to cry again after reading MLD. 4:45 I do not like where my mind is going now... atleast it flew over my head back then, and now see why Anon had that reaction.

I think in the 2010s there was a real niche for those dad/daughter bonds, you can see it with video games too, Bioshock, Dead Rising, The Walking Dead. IDK why everyone was dadbrained for a hot minute.

I went from crying to this story, to overanalyzing and hating it and mocking anyone who enjoyed it, to where I am now- realizing that it's not amazing, but someone wrote and was proud of it.

When I was a kid I found My Little Dashie, and the MLP subgenre of editing MLP characters into the real world very creepy. The image of a 2D creature in the real world just made me uneasy.

I don't know you guys, but i always thought that Rainbow Dash was special, because of her rainbow mane and the Sonic Rainboom, and the fact that the rainbow is an icon in FIM

I was a really imaginative child so when I first read my little dashie not only did it break my child heart but there was a rainbow kite stuck in a tree near my house and I whole heartedly believed for a couple days it was actually rainbow dash, kinda useless information but this video made me remember that lol

This reminds me of this off-the-cuff video Joshua Burner was doing with some other bronies, I forget what the topic was, but partway through they start talking about My Little Dashie and how it was just a gut punch fanfic and nothing much more than that. Then they mentioned Rainbow Dash being out of character, and someone said "Well if you were raised by a sad sack your whole life, I think you'd be depressed and sad too." I dunno why, but that's stuck with me to this day.

As a former brony myself, this story was... A mixed bag at best

i was very young when mlp g4 came out, i remember going on either my dads or moms computer and watching as much Mlp stuff as i could and i found my little dashie on youtube. I had no idea it was a fanfic untill now. wow

That fanfic was the thing that started the Fluffy Pony Community, wasn't it? Would be nice to see a video on THOSE guys sometime soon.

I highly doubt this was related. After all, this is a story about adopting a pony as a daughter. But what you're talking about is ponies as pets. Very different. Also that thing was started by a text post about hasbro genetically modifying ponies, it going wrong, and them escaping into the wild as pests. So we already know what the origin was, and it isn't my little dashie.

when i was a young kid and self-proclaimed brony, i read my little dashie, and then i also read a few of the many continuations written by other people. in one of them, appledash was a thing, and that was how i found out gay people existed.

The Storm FX video was my only exposure to the fanfic I didn't know there was an "Iceburg", towards this special one-of-a-kind fanfic that I do like and it does bring me tears to this very day very well done Shunks!👍

I definitely enjoyed watching the My Little Dashie movie (the lower quality one) and being hit in the feels at the ending. I think what did it for me was the music they used; the My Little Pony theme played with violins and a piano, giving it a sad, yet uplifting spin.

I still have that kicking in the files of my flash drive XD
