Thanos, powerless and seeking to regain his strength to stop his son Thane, who was manipulated by Death and possessed by the Phoenix Force, went to the God Quarry with Eros and Nebula. The God Quarry is a pit where gods go to die, guarded by the Coven, who tried to dissuade Thanos by subjecting him to illusions. Realizing the deception, Thanos broke free, becoming more powerful and ready to confront Thane.
