They're all very talented but Patsy Cline? She's on a whole other level. No one can sing like her. Probably the best vocalist in country, folk, rock, pop, soul, R&B, even opera. The way she puts soooo much feeling in her voice. Here and there a slight cry, slight yodel, slight pause, all perfectly timed. No one can duplicate that.

"...even opera..." Uh, look, I love Patsy Cline, too, but the demands that opera places upon singers is absolutely unreal. Add to that the requirement for being in costume (sometimes extremely elaborate with period stays, corsets, etc.) and acting and being on the stage for hours.

So you grew up in Oklahoma? Larry and Lorre Collins grew up on a Dairy Farm like I did in Muskogee. Larry and Lorrie Collins were were raised on a dairy farm and attended a one-room school near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. At the age of eight Lorrie won a talent contest in Tulsa hosted by Western swing steel guitarist Leon McAuliffe. McAuliffe encouraged Lorrie's parents to relocate to California to develop her talents, which they did in 1953. In the meantime, Larry mastered the guitar, with tutelage from the legendary guitarist Joe Maphis. After winning several talent contests, the Collins Kids landed a regular spot on the Town Hall Party in 1954,

My brother and I drove from West Virginia to visit her grave. Her voice had a ringing quality that I've never heard in any white singer. Just lovely. Unique in the true meaning of unique. Plane crash: Piper Comanche, N7000P. Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas, Randy Hughes. Hughes was Patsy's manager and the pilot. Not instrument-rated. He was concerned about the weather and stopped to call his wife, who told him the sun was shining in Nashville, so he pressed on in the face of bad weather. Without instrument competency, he lost control in the clouds and crashed, killing everyone.

Her facial expressions and purity of raw feelings are beyond belief! Her early departure from this life was tragic but we must thank God for the time she did have to touch us all and to leave a mark on country musics, a high mark that very few have ever come close to reach. Thanks for posting this treasure! All of the performances were excellent! I loved the hymn as well! This young lady nailed it as well!

COLLINS KIDS. Larry and Lorrie Collins were among the most influential rockabilly acts of the 1950s. were raised on a dairy farm and attended a one-room school near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dissolving their act in 1961 after the birth of Lorrie's first child, Smart Girl. After winning several talent contests, the Collins Kids landed a regular spot on the Town Hall Party in 1954, owning a major radio and television contract before they were teenagers. Approximately one year later they recorded their first releases for Columbia, "Hush Money" and "Beetle Bug Bop." The Collins Kids' popularity resulted in appearances on the Steve Allen Show, the Ozark Jubilee, and the Grand Ole Opry. Dissolving their act in 1961 after the birth of Lorrie's first child, Larry continued to write music. He is best known as co-composer of "Delta Dawn" (1972) and "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" (1981). Several of the Collins's recordings have been reissued in the United States and Europe, and the two reunite for occasional appearances, especially in Europe, where they remain popular.

They must have rehearsed many hours to present such a good show. All the music, vocal and instrumental, is top notch. The costumes are beautiful. The simple sets let the talent shine through, even if budget was a consideration. There was not a single mention or sign of a sponsor, at a time when sponsors plastered their names all over. I guess the show was bought by individual stations rather than broadcast by a network. Imagine so much talent in the same place and time!

Personally knowing Patsy music she opened up a world to notice and the radios played. Walking on and singing back then was like all the artists that worked their way to our hearts with their music. Not sure she ever got that title. However her music will live on forever. R.I.P> 1932-1963 that horrible crash It was tragic and Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas died that dat as well and Hawkshaw was married to Jean Shepard another incredible icon in Country Music I met Jean years ago she is still available on KZread.
