    if you told me 10 years ago that a electric 4 door family/ Luxury saloon would accelerate from 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds and hit 235 miles an hour , i would never have believed you , its crazy how fast technology develops!

    Remember, top speed has NOTHING to do with weight; weight only affects acceleration. Top speed takes longer to get to with added weight, but ultimate top speed is all to do with power vs. aerodynamics.

    Actually that is not exactly right :-) I agree with you, that finally it is air drag that limits the top speed of a car, because it raise with the speed, even squared. But besides the air drag there is another force that the car has to fight against when it runs with a certain speed: Rolling resistance. And that is also a bit affected by the weight of the car. But it is independet from the speed, and compared to the air drag at a speed of 235mph it is low, but it is still there.

  • @The80shilling

    @The80shilling

    7 жыл бұрын

    Agreed that rolling resistance is a factor with added weight, but as pointed out, a tiny fraction of aerodynamic resistance and remember that tyres grow in size due to rotational forces, and lift at speed will counteract most of the rolling resistance. But you are correct and it MIGHT make a difference. I was trying to keep it simple.

    Larry Navarro Weight affects acceleration, not top speed. The car is stripped down so it takes less time and therefore less road area to reach its top speed, which is affected by aerodynamics. This is why electric trains like the TGV can reach speeds beyond 300mph despite being so heavy. It just takes them a longer time to get there.

  • @larrynavarro4327

    @larrynavarro4327

    6 жыл бұрын

    What? Weight affects acceleration but not top speed??? You're telling me that If I connect a Lamborghini engine to a semi, ignoring power loss, aerodynamics and wheel differences, you think that they will both hit the same top speed? Electric trains can reach speeds beyond 300mph because they are on rails, not the road. Less surface friction and contact mean that you can essentially glide.

    Let me get this straight, interior space larger than a Mercedes Benz S class and a BMW 7 series, upgraded with the latest technology to head towards autonomous driving, active safety features and most importantly FUCKING 378 kph! top speed; which again if you carefully check their blog, Lucid Air plans to continuously ramp up with each track test. So we're already looking at a top speed reaching over 400 kph. All this done using pure electric energy and to strike the final blow, it's a freakin four door luxury family sedan!! I just pity the fool who spends $1.2 million on a Buggati, talking about how fast and loud the car is. That's it, that's the diesel heads only argument against electric vehicles. Well Lucid Air, you can have my freakin money you won!

    Nervous laughter. Because a startup electric company just passed the top speed of 98% of their lineup.

    For sure your Family needs this speed while driving through a Village, or a Big City. Also who cares about range? Range is for weak, we need speed, unlimited speed on fukking public roads. P.S. When Marketing will understand what type of car regular people need, then the LUCID will have success, till now its just a shitty concept built for fun, and for rich people, who wants to take it to a Drag Race.

    Ok yes this is impressive..but where in the earth are you gonna need that much speed in the type of car that the Lucid Air is going to be? :/ What's the point on making a super car that you're gonna ride in the streets at like 100mph max?

    Yes I know, that's why I don't say where you CAN USE that much speed...I say where are you gonna need it? xD Yes you can reach those speeds in Germany's limits free highways but who is ever gonna need or even want to go in that soeed on a luxury 80K$ car? So yes, they do it for the sake of saying "See! we can do it" but theres no practical use for it. Safety, efficiency and range on a single charge are way more importan. In my opinion they should be boasting about that instead xD

    But they are boasting about that, well, the range and charging time, on their website, this is just one youtube video of a speed test. And besides people do 250+ kmh all the time on the autobahn, 250-300 kmh is where i'm assuming the limit is going to be when it's fully loaded with luxury and everything.

    you could ask the same for Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche etc. People ask artists, why create art? why make a beautiful car? why make a crazy fast car? "form over function" it's for the love of it, for the heck of it, for the way it makes you feel to have it there in the flesh, just knowing what it can do.

    It has great function & form, big 5 seater luxury sedan, base model will be cheaper than a model S, more room than ICE competitors, so really, why not also have 378kmh? why not also have insane acceleration? They don't really loose anything from doing it.

    I get the need to try to prove EVs are not toys. But is it necessary to focus on acceleration and top speed as if they were the thing? I think Tesla has already proven that end well enough. And moved on since. And FF. Sure you can probably make it go a little bit faster but so what? There is always some other car that is faster and snappier. This amounts to nothing but posing. Make something real.

    Wow you are stupid. It took far longer than 10 minutes to achieve that record. Took at-least Two continuous Runs and Strong Gradual Ramp up. That's what required to do it Safely. Unless you are WLD MHD who just YOLO it then Crash.

    where's the proof of this? you claim it did, you show a car moving in a youtube video...but why not show the interior of the car too where we can see the current speed instead of a digitalized speed barometer that you created yourself?

    Wow you failed at physics. This is a Gradual Top Speed test not Accerlation. Weight Reduction does not massively impact Top Speed as long you have Enough Power. 1000hp should be enough. Even the Bugatti Veyron is very heavy at 1888kg. If you have enough power and stability a bit of mass actually can help carry momentum.

    This is dumb. The car is obviously a prototype and doesn't even have a full interior. Who knows, the motors may not even be the same ones that go into production. I'll believe the 235mph top speed when I see it in a production LUCID. Until then, the car hasn't hit 235.

    You failed at physics. This is a Gradual Top Speed test not Acceleration. Stripped out Car does not massively effect Top Speed as long you have enough Power. Sure the customer cars won't do 235 it's been clearly stated 217mph was the Electronic Limit. Too stupid to figure that out.

    That's great. I had great hopes for this car, but now I see you're wasting your resources on speed records that are irrelevant to selling a car to the general public. Very, very sad as I can't see any investor wanting to save this company now.

    No this is very relevant. People want to buy fast cars and when you hear electric you think slow as fuck. This just widened their market base. They are saying you can have fun and drive electric.
