Testing the Keene A52S Super Sluice After Conversion

Спорт

This is my first time testing my Keene A52 sluice since I converted it to a Keene A52S Super Sluice. It likes to be fed material, and lots of it! No more classifying material before I feed it into the sluice. It likes a lot of water flowing through it.
The adjustable legs makes setting up the sluice so much easier! I no longer need to put a weight on top of the sluice to hold it in place. The adjustable legs were a huge improvement by itself!

    Have you been able to make the super sluice work in smaller, slower creeks?

  • @SilverSleuth

    @SilverSleuth

    3 жыл бұрын

    I use it in slower creeks. But......you have to push the rocks through. To mean, it’s less work to push the rocks through the super sluice instead of classifying material first, then running it through a sluice.

  • @MrPLC999

    @MrPLC999

    The A52 works best in fast water, the faster the better. You really want it fast enough to push 3" rocks and smaller right on thru. With 5 or 6 different capture mechanisms in one sluice, no gold is gonna escape out the back.

    None of the spots I work for gold are close to where I park my vehicle. I carry the sluice and my other gear a distance. It gets heavy after carrying it and the rest of my gear. All of the gold in Michigan except for a couple of places is all flour gold. I’m going back to classifying my material before I run it through. I will be trying some dream mat I picked up over the winter.

    Is that what yall call flour gold.. that's pickers compared to Louisiana you better get your jewelers loop out for what im finding in my creeks.. Also I need to try a high banker setup.. water here is cloudy knee to thigh high low speed and always trys to float my a52 away.. the only way I not the creeks here is enter at a bridge and stay within the banks can't get out of creek channel.

    Find the gravel areas and areas that have larger rocks in it. Look for inside bends and behind large boulders. Gold will wash through faster sections and drop out where it slows down.

    @@jackcool3200 a gold cube is the best thing for running beach sand through. You can use a sluice for it, but the fine gold that’s in the black sand will wash through. When panning black sand do a tiny bit at a time. Otherwise, you will wash it out of your pan.

    @Rylan Duncan it likes a LOT of current to work properly. Mark Keene said to run it deep in the water. He told me I needed more water flow. You end up with 2 different water speeds going through it. It’s slower under the screen/punch plate and faster on top. The grill on the front will get small pebbles stuck in it. If you run it for a couple of hours in an area with lots of pebbles/small stones, you will want to clean the front grill. A standard screwdriver will push them out. 😉

    Why the jet dry

  • @SilverSleuth

    @SilverSleuth

    5 ай бұрын

    Flour gold will float. The jet dry breaks down the elasticity of the water so the gold will not float.

    @Dwayne Lowery gold mining in Michigan is just a hobby. Did I find gold? I found some flour gold so to me, it was worth the time and expense. It’s a hobby that I enjoy doing. I had a 2 week trip planned in July to go out west prospecting. Unfortunately, this covid 19 has changed my plans. Next year I will do the trip.

    Normally I shovel into a classifying screen into a 5 gallon bucket, then feed the classified material into the sluice. Now I shovel directly into the sluice. It still has the same amount of carpet/matting as what it did before I did the conversion. If I don’t have enough current, I’ll run my old ruffles and old carpeting.

    If I could give you some advice when working with flower gold you need to classify your material before you run it through your sluice. Second way to much material being run threw your sluice at one time your not giving the gold a chance to drop before it gets pushed past your sluice box. The last advice is had you took the time to classify your material you wouldn't have all the rocks in your clean up pan. And you only need one drop of jet dry it goes along way. Too much jet dry will have the opposite effect and actually push your flower gold out of the pan. If you try what I recommend you will see way more flower gold at the end of the clean up. Hope this helps have a great day.
