@@Danhurd hey Dan. I think you should get to where your not a complete novice at the Gold Claw. It has an 80% capture rate by your own test. I bet if you got comfortable with it by using it an watching the videos a couple times to get familiar with it. I'm betting it would out preform even the super sluice.

The Super Sluice is the standard. The gentle rolling on the "flat" part of the side is a big help with the black sands.

Dan: I really like the comparisons, even though you feel like a novice with the other pans. If the other pan owners would like to participate , I think that would be very interesting. However, trying to improve on something that has worked for decades is pretty difficult! If it’s working why try to fix it. I know efficiency, faster, stronger and more powerful than a locomotive, people are trying to make the perfect pan. I get it but let’s get the makers of these pans, boxes, plates, or whatever and see the results. That would be FUN!

Just because something works well doesn't mean it can't be improved upon.

I love my SUPER SLUICE that I bought on AMAZON for eight bucks. You can't mess with the best. All of the most experienced gold panning youtubers use it, including you Dan, and that alone should tell a novice panner something. Thanks for the great video Dan.

Dont forget to scuff it up first and season it with a good washing in dish soap. Allow it to drip dry though, you do not want to allow the gold to float out of your new pan ;)

Bob if I’m out in the field with a mew plastic pan I will put some big rocks in my pan while using it. It helps scuff it up faster.

This is the pan I will be getting my hands on next..as soon as Goldstream placer supplies restock..good series Dan!

So you know what I'm gonna say, huh?...

When I’m on my four wheeler I put my super sluice pan on top of the front rack bag and cinch it down with my winch cable. It’s so strong it doesn’t warp out of shape very easily.

Perfect! This is exactly what I wanted to see! A nice control test. Something to compare apples to apples with. Obviously it would be a bit different if you were a novice with this, but you went waaay faster than you needed to for a good comparison, so I think that evens it out. Great control test.

For as fast as you where going, that's impressive!

Definitely my go to pan now. I still keep a few of the black ones with me when I’m prospecting different places in the same area so I can load them all up and pan them all at once (back to back). But my final sorting and cleaning up from my Keene Super Concentrator is always done with the Garrett Super Sluice. Keep it up Dan, good stuff as always!

@@Danhurd it's the same material as the other tests though right? Since you know this pan best I think it is safe to assume there was less chance of a screw up due to technique. Since capture rates were still similar to the other pans, I'd say the other pans did better than I originally thought. I'd really like to try one of those pyramid pans on the thick clay with streaks of minerals in it that is on my claim. I know there is fine gold in there, but I have a heck of a time breaking down the clay.

I've got 5 of these. My kids love them.

I've got a pan similar to the Garrett picked up at Cabellas it's about the same diameter. Started using it last year and cant wait to get out this year

Dan Hurd If he does it will say slot about him. I love his mats and sluices, but the cost to get to Aus meant I have gone with GoldRat dream mat equipment. He needs an agent in Aus to cut down on shipping costs. I wonder if you’ll ever review dream mats?

I still say the Super Sluice is the best. I have used other simular pans from 8" up to 'Ol Green', made by Garret and other companies and the Super Sluice has been the best one yet. I am by far, no expert and have never tried any of the newer styles but I'll say it again....The Super Sluice works best for me. "Funny" story: the very first time I ever tried panning, I didn't have an actual gold pan, so I tried an old 12 inch(??) Metal pie plate my wife has (STILL hear about it from her 5 yrs later, lol) and believe it or not, after I got a 'technique' down, it actually worked! In about 5 hrs, I actually got almost a whole gram of the 'shiny' (as Jeff Williams and Slim call it) from a river in Connecticut known for some good deposits. The pieces were small, but plentiful plus alot of flour. I think if I had a proper pan like the Super Sluice I would have gotten three times as much. I think it was a) a very large lack of experience and b) face it, I was using a pie pan. Thank you for an excellant series. Are you doing any more comparisons in future videos? 2 Questions: 1) Even though we aren't supposed to be panning or anything here in New York (due to that stupid law from the 1800s that says any gold or silver found belongs to the State and if we don't turn it in, we can face major fines and/or jail) there are alot of people who still do it, we just throw our finds back into the water . I got into a discussion with a fellow hobbyist over the old thought that every river contains gold. In your opinion, is this fact or fiction?? And 2) How can we and who can we contact for help in getting that law struck from the books or at least get the State to allow hobby prospecting/mining/panning to some degree?? Once again, thank you for your videos, stay safe, healthy, and we'll see you in the next one!!!!!
