Wife got 12.4.3 today and was impressed w/"no hands" feature. But hesitated for prolonged period at intersection where my car does pretty well. Some regression and persistent annoyances. Another good video and commentary. I did get 12.4.3 and for me it is far worse than 12.3.6. The new version is better at lane centering but all other metrics seem worse for me. It tends to pull partway out in the street when turning, is indecisive, and then makes a hard 90 degree turn (instead of following a human-like arc like 12.3.6). It also wanders back and forth between lanes more even when you choose "minimize lane changes". And it seems to get "locked" way under the speed limit when traffic slows down and speeds back up and you have to give it an accelerator press to remind it that it is going too slow. Not great... but I understand sometimes there are regressions. Looking forward to the next version.

    Thank you very much for your clear videos and explanations. I have a question about destination parking lots. Once you arrive at Home Depot in this video, it seemed that you disengaged and closed the trip out yourself. Does FSD prompt you to do this? I'm thinking about traditional GPS systems that say something like "destination reached". What would happen if you didn't take control for the last several feet? Also, when leaving a parking lot on your next trip, can FSD successfully navigate through the parking lot to begin the main route? I'm curious how FSD traverses parking lots. Cheers and thank you very much for your content.

  • @BlackTesla

    @BlackTesla

    10 күн бұрын

    FSD doesn't prompt you to take over but rather tells you the trip is ending in X number of feet. From there it will pull over or pull somewhat into a parking spot but not full auto parking as you vsn enable when driving manually. It can Travers parking lots fine following the lanes and navigation guidance to start a trip. The only issue is where the pin ends up for each destination, sometimes it's at the front door sometimes it's in the parking lot it's random but that determines how it will behave on arrival.

  • @vaddimka

    @vaddimka

    9 күн бұрын

    If someone was there it would probably brake and behave erratically. It does have 360 awareness, it's just not smart enough still to follow the lane markings in certain cases. I don't know why, might take some time to figure it out on this ML end-to-end thingy. I'm more concerned with some corner cases, because now the car reacts to the fact that we have a car in front of us, behind us, aside from us. Meaning that it can drive differently on the same route just because the other cars behave differently, make different decisions. I'm pretty sure Tesla tests it in their simulator, but I ended up letting it drive only if there's no one behind me and there's plenty of time to react. Imagine you're on a highway in the left lane, no one behind you, but there's traffic in front of you. Then someone approaches from behind and the car tries to move right squeezing between a car and a semi. Is it safe? Probably, but it's not safer. Why did it do it? I don't know. I'd rather have this option "don't change lanes on me" always on (it keeps resetting itself to off on every drive).

    Should probably be mandated by law, similar to how in Israel you are *required* to have a "New Driver" sign. -- According to traffic regulations, every driver defined as a new driver must hang a sign on the rear windshield of the vehicle they are driving to inform other drivers that an inexperienced driver is ahead of them, so they should exercise caution and patience. In a private car and a commercial vehicle up to 4 tons, a sign of 12x20 centimeters should be displayed. The height of the letters will be 40 millimeters in black on a yellow reflective background. The sign will be attached to the lower edges of the rear windshield so it will be visible to those driving behind the vehicle. A new driver shall not drive a vehicle without the new driver sign attached to the rear windshield. A driver who is not a new driver shall not drive a vehicle with this sign attached to the rear windshield.

    the regular FSD updates are great. Hard understanding the regressions all the time. One versions some of the driving functionality works then the next it doesn't on the next update. Then the next it does and the next it doesn't.. If anyone can explain why they can't just keep the good stuff from each update then work on improving what they have. • @BlackTesla

    Great question, and when dealing with strict coding I think they could keep what works and keep iterating to make it better. The problem is (which is also the solution) is that it's teaching each iteration how to drive based on data in the form of video clips. How the car "learns" with each model they present is always just a bit different and it's hard to predict how it will apply what it's learned on every situation across all locations. That's why this version Performs differently than the previous as they trained it on a new learning model. It's very complex and I'm am just explaining at a very over simplified level but it's complex trying to get the right balance of comfort, smoothness, decision making, and safety with each one but I'm confident Tesla can get a handle on it.
