I never took this as a serious knife but figured it was a decent thing to have in my truck as a cheap tool. I had an interview for a promotion at work and about an hour before the interview the zipper on my suit pants gave out and my fly was wide open. I went to my truck, got the sewing kit out of the handle of this knife, and stitched the zipper shut. I got the promotion. Turns out it was the best $8 I have ever spent.

When I first moved to Montana in 2010 I bought this knife as a last minute purchase before going for a drive and hike in the Crazy mtns in spring. It was the first time in my life I slid off the road into a ditch and couldn't get out. I was stuck and it was around a 3 mile hike to a couple cabins we saw driving up hiking back was plan C if I couldn't get free before dark and temperature drop. Because of this knife I was able to build a ramp that allowed me to rock back, out of the ditch and drive the car in reverse down to the cabins where there was enough room to turn around. Best cheap knife I ever bought.

Being in "The Teams" for 20 years, every knife maker was making their knife "used by Navy SEALs" - lol - we called them the "SEAL knife of the month". Usually, I just carried a US Divers heavy stainless steel "dive club". Thing was a beast, but, very tough to sharpen. Also carried a good steel K-Bar, full tang for prying. The issue is also getting a good pouch on the knife sheath to carry a ferro-rod and multi-tool, along with a garbage bag rolled up so that if all your kit was dumped, you still had a few basics. The late Ron Hood had a nice sheath "kit". Always have a small folder on your person as well like a Spyderco for one-handed use. Great videos - picked some stuff up for my "home improvements". Especially loved that video on the Harbor freight hatchet - followed your guide on that, and it is great! Use it next to my wood splitter for gnarly elm, etc. GOD Bless

My daughter and I are full-time overlanders/backpackers/bushcrafters. She got one of these as a stocking stuffer 2 Christmases ago and I'll be blunt and honest. Damn thing is straight amazing! It has chopped and sawed branches, batoned wood, shaved wood for feathers, cut rope, chopped food, basically done everything you could ask of a large knife...and it still looks new! I'll take 10 of these before I'd ever buy a high priced survival knife!!!

Without putting any edge on it I was able to break down straight grain wood into kindling with batoning and gravity slam method. It cut off small limbs in one swing, and hack a tip into a piece of wood about the same size as the peg he used. The saw teeth are pretty sharp and worked fine for what it is. For $10 I was actually pretty impressed!!

Several years back I bought a couple of these knifes. I was experimenting on how I could make a quick survival spear to bring down an animal in true life survival situation. Wow. I drilled several holes in the handle. And found a 5 foot length of green oak that, with a little whittling, fit into the handle. Was able to find a seasoned oak limb and whittled some pegs. Drove them in with a rock. My goodness. With the blade heavy weight I was easily able to drive the knife, hilt and all the way through a thick archery target. It was 20 ft away. It went where I was aiming because of the forward weight that you mentioned. But it's waaaayyy to heavy to carry in a hiking or backpaking situation. But wow. I think you could drive the thing all the way through a person in self defense. After a dozen throws at different targets, the blade came out of the handle. God bless you and yours sir

The blades strength relies on it being nestled in the part that you could not name, keep the screw tight and its fine. Put a belly with a grinder on the back of the blade to nestle your thumb and it feather sticks OK. Its my go to for yard work (Makes a great weeder) for the last 15 yrs.

These are actually not bad knives. But all the things that he said are true they are very heavy and not very easy to use for fine work. The big failure point which he also mentioned was that the Tang is not very deep into the handle. I took one of these out and beat the love and hell out of it batoning a bunch of wood.. There is a set screw that holds the Tang into the handle that will work loose and the blade can come out. What I ended up doing was cleaning the inside and the Tang with some brake parts cleaner getting it completely dry and free of oil, then I used some two-part epoxy put the two pieces together and then threaded the retaining set screw in with some thread locker. This will mean it can never come back apart again but I don't really see why you would want it to come back apart ever again and an eight dollars it doesn't really matter. One thing that's kind of surprising is that's actually a stainless steel blade and even after beating the hell out of it I didn't find the edge folding over or any significant problems with the steel of the blade. That was the most surprising thing to me.

I believe the unsharpened area between the crossguard and cutting edge is called the ricasso- Not a knife expert, just watch a lot of Forged in Fire. On another note I think a better or more entertaining test would have been to affix the blade to a handle using items from inside the handle, kill a bear with it, and use the animal parts to make a precision blade to whittle something with. Keep posting videos! I really enjoy what you have going on here

I remember when I was a kid and I bought a survival knife from the back of a magazine. I was so excited the, the anticipation of waiting for it to arrive in the mail in 6-8 weeks was almost to much for a 10 year old boy. I immediately started to put it through a rigorous testing (you know 10 year old boy stuff) one of which was to try and destroy a Nerf football I had. I plunged the knife into the football and twisted and pushed and pulled only the pull it out and find out that the long beautiful blade had bent. I was severely disappointed, but I learned a valuable lesson that day. An $8 knife from the back of a magazine in the 1980’s was a bad idea. From that point on I never looked at those advertisements the same! I enjoyed the video, brought back memories from my childhood.😂

For cheap back up knives, Morakniv is my favourite. Swedish made, decent quality, plastic sheath, sure it's stainless for the cheap one but it comes decently sharp. Starting like $15 bucks on Amazon. It's my glove box knife and my beater, I have a few.

Still have mine 8+ years later. It rarely ever gets used. Had to glue up the tang hold after water tests in a lake. Compass is still good. Edge is fairly junky and soft. But with a sharpener it should be fine. Even after extended periods of time. I carry a hatchet to chop/split wood. I know people like to test there knives like its a chopper/hatchet. I will never do that unless i loose my hatchet.

I found that blade locking screw in the handle strips out after using the knife for a while. I took the goodies out of the handle and filled the hollow handle with epoxy which so far has seemed to work. I wish the handle / blade lockup was better so one could screw the knife on to a tree branch to make a spear.

I thought that knife looked familiar! My dad bought one for me when I was in my teens, more for show than actual use (I had much better knives) and I broke it in a few days. Snapped it right at the tang because it doesn't go all the way through the handle (So you can store useless things!). I still have the handle around somewhere too, always liked the knurled grip and that I could still store things in it :D

Kind of reminds me of my old Buckmaster, it just doesn't have the ice spikes, you know in case you call down an iceberg. All jokes aside, it really is a good knife. Thick blade, easy to sharpen, so thick it batons great. The saw is decent on green wood but not great on dry. Still take it out in the field sometimes, reminds me of my youth.

I also almost never use any of the other tools on it. But for overall shear use i love the x shear or one shear brand. Even the cheap ones have their place.

Sharpening this knife prior to use is a smart start. I also reccomend getting a Tylenol travel pill bottle to keep your matches and firestarters in. I also have an esse camp lore which is my edc. But if i ever go camping im taking this knife because it works really well and doesnt feel shitty. Its weakspot tho is the hollow handle and the sheath. I put hockey tape on mine for a nicer feel.

I got to say I've always had one of those just to throw in the back of the pickup every time I go camping. Is it my go-to nope I usually use a sog ace, that's my usual Bushcraft camping knife. I ended up fusing the blade to the crossguard made it a lot more rigid. I would give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars myself. Love the review and keep it up.
