    Imagine if someone could engineer a door that only comes out a few inches and then slides backwards. That would be brilliant! You’d get a huge entry area, it could be simpler and more reliable, easier to get to items on a roof rack, it would also be safer. Oh well, one can dream.

    Tried this out with my 2020 Model X. The doors behave about the same. I think the main difference between this and what you'll find in the wild is that cars aren't straight up and down, so the doors usually do ok. That said, I'd love it if the doors received some software attention and improved. Honestly, I'd be massively happy if they just made it so that the manual override alarm could be silenced.

    I just tested and can confirm the same. At 14 inches my FWD's will not open. At 18 inches they open the same as yours and it's difficult for me to get in. I think I've always unconsciously tried to park where there is ample room as I don't fully trust these doors after a year. Side note, ever get nervous when closing the FWD and a driver / passenger door at the same time? The clearance is tight and it sometimes feels as if they might meet / touch even though they never do, lol.

    Thanks for the interesting video. I hadn't thought of several of these problems (like trying to get in the front doors at the same time as the back doors, which is common when you have kids). Some aspects appear to be better than an SUV (where you couldn't open the doors at all in 12-18 inches) or a minivan (where it's difficult for a tall person to lift their child into a car seat). Are the sensors or logic any better in your new Model X? Just curious if the doors have improved at all since this original Model X.

    I have the same issue with the 2018 that I’m driving currently. The worst thing I’ve had happen was it whack a car door opening next to me by a kid. The worst thing was turning off the auto open doors because I was getting out of my buddy’s mustang and had the door swung open to climb out and the car sensed me and open the door dinging the door right in the middle. I have a refresh on order and hope some of these oddities are gone.

I will be studying those famous sensor since I presume calibration must be done at Tesla service center .only .. its very helpful your review because if your chauffeured in one this to understand that 3 people boarding additional to the driver requires each passenger (3) doors is almost imposible and difficult to achieve for someone who is nerver boarded a Model X before making it awkward ..and a true task thank you juan

    If you want to open both doors at once that is why you use the keyfob from a distance and that is a non issue. If you open a regular door you have to get close enough to grab the handle (the same distance to push the button the x) and as you pull the door open you are stepping back as you open the door. So how is that any different from a regular car versus opening the doors on the X. ????

    Probably the funniest review I’ve seen. You can override the opening when you’re inside the car, but you’re obviously responsible for the damage. Check the manual. I’ve never run into an issue with opening doors or getting in and out. If you want it to open up all the way, just hit the override inside the car. Also, when you’re parked next to cars, not cardboard boxes that might mimic the size of a person, it’ll open up all the way. That’s what was demonstrated in the reveal, and that’s what happens in real life as well

  • @Myksgarage

    @Myksgarage

    I’m glad this was entertaining. I’m aware that I can override it while inside the car, but my complaint is if I’m on the outside, there is no way to override it, like with the key fob or the app. Stay tuned for more funny content 😀

    I am shopping around for a used model X and this is my concern. Thanks for your video. I think the software/sensor is correct... let's say you park next to a wall, or a flat side panel truck at 18 inches, forcing to open the FWD will hit it.
