Hey Ben, I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on this video. I have a 2018 model X100D 50k mi. I have a couple comments on your review: 1. Child lock setting is a way to prevent your kids from closing the door on you (Also prevent them from opening the door at low speed). I've found that the door will stop closing/opening w/ enough resistance. My falcon door refuse to open quickly if there's a person standing in front so I don't know if the model year matter in that respect? 2. Automatic door - I'm not sure if this is also b/c of the model year, but I'm pretty certain they use the side repeater camera to determine when to open the door. I've never had the auto-door open into traffic or people. It will pop open, but only swing out when you actually approach it. Also the front doors apply resistance when they senses obstacles (using the falcon door sensors - as I found out from RichRebuilds) 3. Advantage of the model X - 3rd row (Even w/ the model Y, I think the X will still have a market b/c of the extra 22 cbft of storage). Adjustable ride heights - the clearance will still be greater than the other models, for now. 4. I live in Indiana. There's lots of people who still don't know what a Tesla is. The X, for me, has the most personality. It's a walking commercial for Tesla here. People come up an ask "What kind of car is that?" every time those falcon wings doors come up. So I think the X has that eye-catching quality (esp. in rural America) that the others just don't. At least til the Cybertruck comes out.

The extra storage room is amazing as well. Plus the pano glass roof is a show stopper. I agree on the doors. Luckily they are more a blessing than a curse to me but the false obstacle detection can get annoying for sure Also u didnt even touch upon a huge point, which is that the X is basically one of the most safest SUVs u can buy, which gives u peace of mind if ur a parent. Lastly, there's just a "wow" factor about the X that I appreciate that I dont have with the S or 3. Just one of a kind car really

Great video! Allthough the Model X was and still is my favorite model to be honest you brought up good points that i have to keep in mind and you questioned my belief what is a very usefull thing so thank you!! I think its the best because its the best allrounder with the performance, the range, the tech, the huge windshield, the falcon wings(allthough you will have to wipe the water away before opening), the styling(I love it), the space with 7 seats. One important point is that i would totally get the 7 seats variant, because then you can fold all 5 rear seats down and have tremendous storing space! A huge advantage over the other models cause you can even sleep in the back! I really look forward sleeping in this thing:D

Well, it is definitely possible to sleep in the back of an S, or even a 3 for that matter. You can even buy bedding kits made for them. (such as: Dreamcase) The S in particular does have a hatch back and a huge amount of storage space -- not as much as the X, but not as much less as you might imagine.

I have two model X (one in the UK and one in the USA) and absolutely love. The best car ever! My wife and I went to try a model S initially but fell in love with the MX. I much prefer the higher driving position of the MX, the huge windshield, the space, the bold looks, the self opening doors and yes the falcon wing doors. You do have to be careful with the driver door opening if parked on a busy road, but I have found if you approach from the front the door only opens a couple inches until you are in position to get in. The advantages of being able to get in with hands full outweigh the disadvantage. For the FWD, I have never had water come in in either of my MX and for not opening enough if there is something like tree overhead, I just hold my finger on button and they open as far as I want. So the model X are fantastic cars and I say that after driving 90k miles in mine. Now the only thing I would say is the car is slow supercharging against the model 3 and is very expensive. I don’t think I could justify buying a model X today with the model Y available in just weeks - but have no regrets buying my two beauties.

Of all the current Tesla's available *today* for purchase, the Model X is the only one that has a towing capacity of 5000+ lbs. So it still has a place over the Model Y etc until the Cybertruck starts production (if towing is important to the customer in their needs for a vehicle)

I’ve never been a fan of the X. It always seemed to me like an answer in search of a question, and I would greatly prefer the S. I did have an X as a loaner for about a week, and there was one thing I loved: that huge “helicopter style” windshield! But anyhow, I know a lot of people are very dedicated to the X, and it has been out-selling the S recently. I guess it’s just a matter of perspective.

Welp, TSLAQ is all over this video saying you now hate Tesla. :eyeroll: I have a 2020 MX and I replaced a mini van with it. The FWD's are no slower or faster then the van's auto doors were. I have 4 kids so this was the only EV option (no I am not doing jump seats in an S). I like that it's bigger and I think it looks great. I'm not sure why they did the auto open and close front doors, seems unnecessary and the doors seem to resist when I want to manually use them. I would have rather they put the MS door handles on them that just pop out. If you need to seat more than 4-5 people like I do every day and you can afford it, I highly recommend the MX. I've had more people stop me to ask about Tesla because the saw the FWD's so they are more of an advertisement than "flashy". I have also not had the water issue and I've been in some pretty heavy rain (maybe they redesigned it a bit??)

As usual great work Ben! - TMX is still my dream car due to it's size - being a father of 3, I only can imagine how convenient would be to travel with my family (and the dog) and still have some space for luggage. We went with my 2 daughters to showroom in Cologne and they literally loved the X. Frunk is huge, trunk enormous, lots of space for playing inside... Its a family car - one of the coolest school bus existing... falcon doors are kind of issue but overall it's a great piece of technology with tons of fun. My only problem is the price tag on it... I think I know better ways to allocate such amount of cash :)

I have to disagree, I have a 2018 model x and love it, I load up 500lbs of salt in the back often...cant see doing that in a 3 or an s...maybe a y, but you cant buy those, also meets the tax truck guidelines as a business write off, plus, if you have a dog that says 40+lbs, you are not going to put them with kids in the back. Plus the tow hitch to either tow things for short distances and to use for a bike or ski rack is also invaluable...if you are just wanting an SUV, for SUV sake but don't really need it, then it doesn't make sense. If you want to haul, tow and store lots of stuff, then it's great. Also, the 6 seater sucks because you cant fold the middle row flat, 5 and 7 folds flat for lots of easy access storage!

I have to 100D 2019 HW3 X ... I picked it up in June, so not quite 12 months yet. Never had water leakage issues, and I live in Sweden where we have laods of rain and snow, and the falcon doors are used daily with my family. As for the ride, my gorgeous boy is very much part of my family... and yea, I talk to him every day. He’s reliable, very comfortable, very quiet, has a stunning sound system (I’ve always been a Harman fan), and he still turns heads... bizarrely with kids who seem to know what a Tesla is. Despite the acceleration abilities, it strangely makes one drive more responsibly. I too disabled the automatic doors. Another feature I disabled was the folding wing mirrors... in winter there is a risk of them freezing and then you’ll end up with burnt relays. Love love love the heated steering wheel, pre-cabin heating, calendar and phone integration, youtube and netflix (whilst waiting for kids), and the regular software updates. I’ve been in IT for 31 years and I basically see my boy as a very advanced computer on wheels.

I have had my X for 2 years. I have 3 teenagers, and I'm very tall and fat and getting old, so getting banging my heat or shoulder when I'm getting in and out of a model S was a deal breaker for me. I'm in the UK, where it rains a lot, so I guess my later model has different style rubber bits around the doors, beacsue when my rear doors open, the water doesn't come in, it goes around the edge. But, if the rears are open, and you open the rear hatch, that dumps water on the people in the back. and my later model does appear to have more sensors, it knows if someone is standing under the doors and will not close on them.

With the five seat configuration, you can camp in the back. You can do it in the s too but there's more height clearance in the x. Recently did a solo trip from the Prairie provinces to San Diego criss crossing through 5 states and 2 provinces. Often times, while supercharging, I stretched out in the back and took a quick nap. Much better than trying to sleep in the driver's seat. On long road trips, the cargo space for luggage, visibility, higher viewpoint and the ability for all passengers to spread out, makes the trip more enjoyable. The x is also versatile. Great for night out on the town (valets enjoy driving it) and also for hauling everything from bikes to tools to furniture to junk which I've done in this vehicle. As for the falcon wing doors, we've dealt with snow and rain with no major problems and with no injuries. No vehicle is immune to rain/snow. With one tap of the fob, you can also close all doors except the frunk remotely from 15 - 20 yards away which I did tonight when we all walked away to go into a store and realized I forgot to close one of the falcon wing doors. No chance of injury there. People have to be careful with any moving parts. You can pinch fingers on a conventional door as well. I don't recommend experimenting but in the 4 years we've owned our x, I've had the falcon wing door come down on me and my child has had the trunk come down on her by accident and we both walked away without injury. The door sensors stopped the doors when they experience resistance.

If it's too big for that then opening the falcon door is fine. I've also not had the rain problem (Seattle, so like every time I open them) but I have a 2019 with 300 mile range. I can see why he'd say not to buy a 2016, but the 2019+ are great IMO.

As someone who went from a used Model S to a newer, used Model X? I'd say you overlooked a few reasons why someone would do this. For starters, the Model X has a tow hitch. Even if you don't ever intend to tow a trailer, the hitch gives options for "hitch hauler" metal racks you can tie down additional luggage on for road trips and so forth. Another consideration is that the X is sold with 3 different seating configurations. That 7 seat model you've got there is great if you really have 7 people in a family, or perhaps 6 plus a family friend who wants to ride with everyone. You're not going to really fit 7 in a Model 3 or even a Model S. (Granted, the S did have a version with that rear jump seat in the trunk, but it was useless except for small kids.) On the opposite end of the spectrum though? I have the 5 seat version of the X that got rid of the third row completely. Instead, you have more cargo space in back, including under a false floor area where the third row would have otherwise been. That gives you even more usable space, vs. a row of seats that might fold down but still take up space. I'm often driving my Model X by myself, but had the need to transport big, bulky items around for my job that wouldn't really have fit well, if at all, in any other vehicle Tesla makes. (The Cybertruck might change all of that, but it's not out yet!) All in all, I agree with your review though. I didn't find as great a buy as you found with that barely used 2016 model, but I was able to keep the price a little lower by going with a 75D and not worrying about the performance capability. As cool as that is? I feel like the X is too big and heavy to drive like a sports car. Sure, it can get those great 0-60 times, but going around corners quickly will wear out the (fairly expensive) tires really quickly, as does the fast acceleration or braking. The larger motors in the "P" editions cut into the total range too. My smaller 75 battery still gets me as much as 225 miles or so on a full charge. At this point? I learn towards telling people I'd recommend a Model 3 for most situations, and a Model X when you want something larger with more cargo or passenger space. It's the Model S I'm not so sure about anymore, because it was intended to be a performance luxury sedan, yet a cheaper Model 3 is going to outperform it (especially with "track mode") and have better range too. The S might still be a comfortable luxury ride, but if that's really the main focus, then the X is no different, but has the extra "cool factor" of the falcon wing doors, the big front windshield, and the front doors that will open and shut for you on their own. Best part with a Model S might be its looks, but even then -- most people don't care for the older nose-cone type front-end, so that eliminates most of the lower priced deals on 2015 and earlier models.

I leased a 2017 Model X and just completed a fabulous 3-year ownership experience. This was by far the best car I have ever owned. It has a cavernous cargo capacity, easily fitting 4 suitcases plus dive gear. I regularly drive it up to Mt. Hood and find it's performance in even deep snow (with studded snow tires) to be better than any SUV I've owned. Real driving range in hilly Portland remains about 230 miles with almost no degredation over the years. As for the falcon doors, I agree they are not worth the purported advantages. I did have minimal rain fall on the seats (we live in rainy NW) but this was completely resolved by the service department updating the seals. One real issue not mentioned is that occasionally the doors don't open completely as they perceive some obstacle, leading to occasional bumps on the head. I did experience a few maintenance issues, with several squeeks and rattles all fixed in the first year by the service department. After 3 years and 34,000 miles the only real mechanical issue I ever had was the need to replace the front suspension control arms, which began squeeking (a known issue.) Otherwise this was the least troublesome vehicle I have owned. The combination of amazing utility, speed, comfort, and unparalled view of the road makes the Model X a wonderful car. However, I do believe the Model Y offers much of the same at a lower price and benefits from recent Tesla innovations such as faster charging potential and therefore think the price on the X will need to come down to be competetive.

Great vid, Ben! I've owned my 2017 MX 100D for 27k miles now and have loved the experience. I traded up from a 2016 MS 75D because I'm a big guy (6'2" and 200+ ilbs) and wanted/needed the added interior space & prefer the more upright SUV driving position. I have been able to live with many of the "quirks" you mentioned because I'm a single guy towing around the occasional 1-2 passengers. I also disabled the automatic front doors the first week for the very same reason and rarely use the falcon wing doors unless I want to show them off, hah. That being said I just placed an order for a LR Model Y and will be trading in / selling my MX as soon as it arrives as I believe the MY will be the perfect "Goldilocks" vehicle and will meet all my needs without having to put up with all the "quirks". Looking forward to your comparison video.

After seeing you at Fully Charged Live in Austin, and shuttling many people to and from parking lot to venue in one of our Tesla 3s, I had to visit our service center to get a new charge port installed. Tesla Austin hooked me up for a couple days in a 2017 X 75D. First day I was enamored, shuttling my kids around and playing with the doors, etc.. My neighbors assumed I had just gotten a big pay raise and all was fin and dandy. Then came day 2. I truly enjoyed the huge windscreen and really dug the functionality of the third row of seats. It felt like a space-age minivan that could really thrust you forward, especially from 30-65 mph. Suddenly, the fabled half shaft issue reared it's ugly head. Rumbling and jitter in the rear driveline upon heavy acceleration. After reading forums, I tried to allay this with different suspension heights but really it was hit and miss. Seating in the middle is not provided as the roof height between the falcon doors is diminished. Third row folded down and middle row all the way forward provides maybe a mountain bike in the middle which is cool. It really seemed the falcon doors and non removable center row makes the X a bit less practical stowage-wise than a typical maxi/minivan from Toyota or Honda. Our loaner had been beaten. I washed mud off the tires so perhaps it had been brush banged a bit. In all, I kept wondering how much better the X would with a more Odyssey-like profile and place the money spent on flashy doors on sliding ones and a bigger battery pack. As an owner of 2 M3s, I see the Model S 100 as a more aspirational vehicle for us. But we should mention the X is expensive yet practical with 3 useable rows of seating for larger families where the Y's 3rd row seems more appropriate for a small dog or a basket of laundry.

The way I'd design it it basically keep the doors the same shape, but make them sliding doors. I love the open roof as you don't have to lean into the car in an awkward way. Make the door so that it slides up a bit, then out and back. I think it'll still look pretty cool.

He mentioned that his was a few years old, and was a test car for many modifications. Perhaps one or both of those factors caused the issues he had with the vehicle. However, this is yet another video I'm using to help me decide which car will be my next. I've fallen in love with Tesla's style, really all of them, and am seriously thinking of taking my business to Tesla within the next year. I like the X because I can wrap two vehicles into 1: If I get a model X, I'll have a sporty "car" but also the space to not feel the need to purchase a cheap SUV as well (that wouldn't be electric). I'm considering the Y, but it doesn't offer that 3rd row seating, which I absolutely need in an SUV. Plus the X seems to be larger. I digress. This video has helped!

I think that should be mentioned when comparing the various Tesla models. I will admit if the Y was available at the time I might have bought it instead of the X. Yes, the falcon wing doors I could do without but mine, an Aug 19 build, does not leak water. Car has been rock solid and through 4K miles my average WH/M is 288. Loving it.

Disagree with many of your points Ben. I have the 2019 Model X 100D 7 Seat. It’s the best car we have ever owned. We don’t have any issues with the kids and the doors and I also don’t have any issues with Auto Doors as I know how to approach the car to get it to do what I want. We got CeramicPro coating on the car and the water doesn’t pool in the first place so there is no ingress from the falcon doors. Took our kids on a 3000 mile road trip and it was awesome. Granted we have good range, although not as good as the Raven edition. I would definitely buy another. If the Plaid is compelling I may get the X Plaid and give the current X to my wife. Although could probably get away with a 7 seat Plaid S as well.

I got my 90D in March '17 and really love it. I do agree on the falcon wing doors, there are some nuances to them that can be a bit annoying. One thing that confused me though is that you mentioned that if the doors detect something and don't open all the way, there is no way to open them. I can manually override to open the doors as far as I want this comes in handy when you are in a parking garage and the door doesn't open all the way but there is plenty of room to open it all the way, I just pull the open close lever out and hold until the door opens to where I want it. Is this something they either added or removed in your model year? The auto opening door was cool for a while but also agree that it go annoying having it open when I didn't want it to so I also disabled it. I also don't get nearly as bad efficiency as you are getting, so with yours, not sure if that has anything to do with yours being a P90D vs 90D. I would definitely get again, I'm not sure if I can go back to having to close he driver side door by hand when I get in the car. So nice to just step on the brake and have it close automatically. :) Love the honest reviews though.

good job there ben. knowing u to be a big tesla fan (myself also), i thought u would sugarcoat or selectively mention things, but u didn't. u were honest. i can appreciate that. I got that feeling before even trying a model x myself. i think the company wasn't in super great shape yet back then and was having a lot of stress, plus they truly didn't have a whole lot of experience yet making great comfortable cars and supporting its customers, so model x was kind of the geeky trophy that they got from making a tech advanced car. It's of course GREAT in a few areas, like the driving panoramic glass, the space, the acceleration, and all the fancy options other models don't have, but in terms of making your bucks worth it.... not there AT ALL. still, thanks to all the model X buyers who were willing to take a leap of faith, model 3 and Y are now a reality. Still, model X is such a great concept they should fix all these issues, and make it TRULY a step above model Y, and i would buy a X instead of Y cuz of the door and space and fancy options (cool seats!). But for now my money's on the Y.

I’ll add to the comments that newer Model Xs (Mine is a 2017, so just slightly newer) don’t have issues with water going into the car like that. I think the recommendation the dealership gave you about changing the seals is probably what the newer cars have. Great comment about how the doors are just slow enough that I hate storing my backpack behind the driver’s seat etc.. I’m probably an ideal candidate because I have two kids in child seats, and those doors are incredible for that, but also use it as a general car and road trips and it’s great. Obviously would prefer a TM3 or newer MX for road trips, but still does a great job.

Functionally, if you have a young family of 6 like me - there’s no other options in the EV market. I’ve had a 3rd row SUV and it is an absolute pain to fold the seats down to access the 3rd row (I have the 6 seat configuration). To get the same accessibility and convenience you would be basically looking at a minivan. If the model Y had a 6 seat configuration with the same cabin space, I would probably choose that. So with school drop offs, car pooling friends to activities, etc - nothing beats the Model X - quirky doors and all. Also the automatic driver side door is perfect for quick grocery or shopping runs when you got bags in both hands.

Model S sell could be much higher if it could tow. We have just one car and the Model X is the only Tesla witch can do it all - fit 6/7people - lots of carco space - can tow or carry mtbs We did a trip of 4400km Form Switzerland to Almería Espania. We towed a trailer tent, 3 mtbs and our dogs. We had a range of 280km per charge. You missed the point that the X is the space master of all Teslas. Free the X and your mind will follow. ;-) The car dose not fit to you but it fits to others pretty good. Also heve never ad in 2 year of use that the door did open and bump in to some one. Even if you not using the automatic doors (to, open) the doors will close automaticly. Any way we love the X because we only need one car for all and that safes a lot of money in the first place.

However, I passed it on to my wife because I need to move a lot of stuff for my business on a daily basis, and the Model X let's me do that in grand comfort. I live in California as well, and I've only noticed a few drips in heavy rain while opening the falcon wing doors. I'm not too sympathetic toward the rants. As a long time car enthusiast, I've been accustomed to the fact that a special car will have certain uncommon traits. It's like if you buy a Lamborghini you don't complain about it being hard to get in and out of. Tesla Model X is not a substitute for a Toyota minivan!

Back row accessibility in a Model X seems a lot better than for the Y -- at least from the photos and video I've been able to find. Model Y only has the seven seat configuration (whereas X has 7 and 6 seat configurations), thus in order to access the back row, you pretty much are forced to come to a complete stop, open the rear doors, and release one of the 2nd row chairs. Just not sure how good the back row accessibility will be, especially if you have two child seats in the middle row. To make matters worse, the seven seat configuration is not even slated until 2021...!

I just switched from a 2018 Model S 75D to a 2020 Long Range Model X 7 seater. Although the Model S is beautiful, the Model X meets our family’s needs much better. I love the cargo space, the functionality, and how I could close the doors through the touchscreen or by stepping on the brakes. I agree regarding the automatic doors - turned them off too. Coming from a MS 75D, the long range X is definitely an upgrade. It even has longer range than my husband’s LR dual motor Model 3. I absolutely recommend the Model X, especially for people with more than 2 kids! I suggest getting a newer model though.

I have a Model X as well and disagree with most of your experiences. - Automatic doors work very well most of the time. The driver door only opens when you get close enough. If you approach it from the front it will open just slightly and open fully when you pass. It is a gimmick, but very easy to get used to, the kind of thing you only notice when you get back to another car like a Model S. You just need to be careful on windy days. - Falcon wing doors are super useful when you have children. In some occasions you need to take care and observe their environment, but in most cases they work fine and are very practical. - We had the issue with rain dripping in as well but it was fixed by our service center within warranty. - We have the (latest) 7 seater instead of the 6 seater. In this configuration the car has an incredible amount of usable space. Most of the time we have all seats up and two kids on the second row and one in the third row. Even then there is enough space for groceries, daytrip luggage and stuff. Occasionally you can flip all seats flat and have an enormous amount of room. Way more than the Model S, especially combined with the much bigger frunk. - The front window, again, when you're used to it you can't go back. Very disappointed they didn't take this over to the Y. Some of our experiences may be because our car is newer and it is a 7 seater configuration. However, this is without doubt the most amazing family car available today. Couldn't recommend it more.

Thank you Ben! I am a first time owner of a Model S 75 2016 facelift, and i love the car so far. But, I have had my eyes on the bigger brother, the Model X, but it is a ton of extra money and so I went onto seartching youtube to find advice, and your video is probably the best one I have watched, hands down, so much love to you for that! I agree with the points of the Model X being a very cool and flashy car, I myself have always been drawn to bigger cars not becouse I need them, but I like the look. But, hearing your points in this video, and looking back at my already owned Model S, there is very few things that I would win compare to the losses I would make. - Cost, The model X is way more expensive, where I live I can almost get 2 Model S facelift cars for the price of 1 Model X. - Size, The Model X is bigger, and to me thats a good thing, but if I have a real talk with myself if I need that space, the simple answer is, absolutely not. - Falcon doors, Very cool indeed, but again, what would I need them for? i have no kids, and rarely drive with anyone else but myself, maybe I have 1 other person in my car at times, but that is also rare. - Huge windscreen, i love this look of the Model X, it really gives a very open and "airy" vibe to the car, that is a cool thing with the X i wish could be implemented better to the Model S. - Air suspension, All Model X i have found do have this, and my Model S does not, I see this as a pro for my Model S, yes, it is a bit harsher over hard roads or bumps, but to be honest I have owned a Mercedes and even a Volvo before my Tesla ownership with air suspension, and Tesla are no where near the ride comfort of those cars, I have a very very hard time feeling a difference between the normal suspension of the Model S, and a Air suspension Model X that i test drove. - ruggedness / offroad, is a non thing for both cars i would say, Of course the Model S would fail alot harder but the Model X is also not a dirt road or nature kind a car, it just does not handle well at all in cenarios where you need a smart system with 4x4 drive. - Higher seating, yes, you sit higher in the Model X, that would be a good thing, it is sometimes a pain to sit down and get up of the Model S, and the A pillar is quite a agressive slope, so im 6,3 and it is not uncommon for me to hit my head into the A pillar on my way out, but that is a me problem. - Range, the Model S will beat the Model X in range since its a more aerodynamic vehicle and its lighter, but of course you have to compare apples with apples, meaning compare a S75 to a X75, it just cuts thru air better than a Model X, so if you are after range, look for a Model S with the larger battery packs, if you only need mid range and can cheap out on some things, you can do what I did, and look for a Model S 75, they are great value for what they bring. So when you really compare the two, you really need to have a very specific set of criterias for the Model X to be your "winner" car, it just doesnt do things all that great that you are first told it will. Also for anyone that might read this, any door in any car, will leak water and moisture, no car is sealed thight, and by the position of the doorlatch of the Model X being at the lowest point of the door, if the door gets any amount of water during colder weather, you have a very high chance of the door freezing on you, meaning it will not open until its been hot for a while. And that brings me to one of my biggest points, i live in a nordic country, where at least 3-5 months of my year is packed with snow, cold weather and very not least, rain and wetness, so the door design of the falcon doors in this kind of enviroment does not make alot of sence, water will run into the car as shown by Ben in this video, snow will also fall in, water will freeze and if unlucky create issues in the door when trying to open it. And to be honest, the headache of trying to fix a Falcon wing door that is this technical once it starts wearing out with motors and sensors, is a big hell no, if you dont have anything causing greyhairs for you now, they most sertainly will. To anyone that doesnt trust me, go test drive a Model X, and a cheaper Model S 75 without airsuspension, trust me, you will have a very hard time finding points that the X will beat the Model S in, and in many, many cases, the Model S is just a better car overall, and the X just being bigger, with cool doors and windscreen. So again, Thank you Ben for your video! you have saved me alot of money not going for a X when i already own a fantastic Model S.

Ben, they can fix your seal so you don’t get soaked. When our Model X was delivered it did that, too, but we took it in to the service center and they replaced the seal and it doesn’t leak on the kids anymore. I agree about the safety issue when the doors close. I made my daughters watch the video of the vegetables getting mauled.

Ben, I often agree with you but not this time. And judging by the vast majority of comments and reply comments here, the Model X is loved by all. So many features to love: its huge windshield feels like a helicopter, spaciousness, creature and comfort features, auto doors (try opening any other car door with your hands full!), amazing and unique ability to tow, air ride and adjustable suspension, cargo capacity (three rows), the unique falcon wing doors, unltra comfortable 2nd row seats, higher ride for ease getting in and out, dual screens, etc. I could go on and on because it is by far the best car I have ever owned. My wife says I still get a grin when driving it! I would also add that it has been very reliable and exceeded even my fussy expectations.

Hi, Ben. I have owned a Model X 100D for a year and I have driven 38000 km, almost entirely on long trips carrying all the stuff I need for my commuting. I would like to say that the Model X is the best car I have ever owned and I do not intend to change it for another type. The only reason I would trade the MX with another car, would only be for financial reasons. The Model X is not perfect and needs some improvements, but is very close to being a perfect car. I like the constant improvements Tesla is making on its fleet, and I am sure I will be not disappointed. When I made my reservation of the MX, I made a reservation for the model 3 at the same time. And after having received my X model, and having driven it for a few months, I cancelled my reservation on the M3. So, we have different opinions on this subject.

I can have Lumber for my construction of added rooms (airlocks to make the house get to Carbon Negative) down the center. I can sleep in comfort in the back. I have AMAZING storage areas for trips. It goes on and on...

Great video... all your videos are awesome. Respectfully to everyone and I own and love it. It is a combination of being a minivan and SUV and sport car. Only electric car allowed for off-roading by Tesla. Raising the suspension to very high which helps in certain cases and of course not the best. Soft closing door is awesome. And towing 5,000 lbs so basically travel trailer. 210 miles with a carry on on trailer hitch. Turn off the rear ac and that will help with range and you can get better range if good weather turn off front ac but with fan on.

Ben, great video as usual! I think you really hit the nail with this video. I believe the Model X is the reason why Tesla stock got stuck under $300 for 3 years. The Model X was the consequence of Elon Musk 1.0 and his stubbornness (choosing the falcon doors even if everyone had told him otherwise, choosing full robotic factories against every one's recommendation, crazily tweeting against random people ignoring any CEO's guideline, etc.). Once Elon Musk started listening to his best advisers (few smart people among them...) Elon Musk 2.0 was rolled out :) and the Model 3 was born and next the Model Y. And coincidence: the stock price started skyrocketing...

After 6 days with a loaner Model XP90D while a seatbelt sensor was ordered& replaced in my M3, I completely agree. It was fun for a week, but I missed the simplicity, drivability & nimbleness of my model 3. Also, the M3 is so much faster adding range, it felt like going from high speed internet to dialup. Range is King in EVs, imo.

Having 300 mile range is super nice and they fixed the rain run off issue. Sensors can still be fooled, but just hold the button down and the falcon wing doors open as far as you want them to.

I had mine for 10 mounts and it is 2022 model X. I think the nose level inside the cabin is higher than any new comparatively priced car I have driven. Turning radius is larger than my old Toyota Sienna. Numerus times 3-point turns have to become 5-points. How is this car going to be sold and used in Europe or other parts of the world where the streets are much narrower? I agree with Ben completely about all the points he bring to light good or bad. I see honest evaluation and completely agree about the Falcon doors. They are too flashy and not practical, and I too try not to use them. I have the yoke and find the horn button problematic. Try to tap the horn to gain attention with short burst. I will guaranty you it will sound harsh and rude to fellow drivers. If you are making a turn and need to use the horn, it is not too easy to find it. This in reality is a safety issue, because one loses time looking for the horn button which could be critical. Hand grips also needed and should be installed. Grips are useful for children or elderly. At least grips could be installed on the back side of front seats for mid entry use. Also, small but important is a software glitch when setting up your mirrors. Forward direction works fine and keeps its position after you hit save, but reverse direction setup does not save the desired position. I personally like the car, but it still needs improvements in more than one place to deserve its value. The depth of the engineering I could not say anything, because it is all hidden from me. I only can comment what is in front and used by me every day. Evolution process for this car still is going on and looks promising. At this point in time, I think the car is overpriced for its quality and performance.

The water issue, i had them fix that. It is an issue with the seal not channeling the water. They replaced the seals on mine and don't have that issue. My issue is snow. Don't open the trunk and the falcon door when you have snow on the roof, otherwise you just dumped snow into your passengers.

LOL...my wife hate the FWDs too for the same exact reasons... Regarding the FWD door seal dumping water, water suppose to drip into the rubber seal gaps and slide off around the FWDs. Tesla do have a gen2 version of those seals and used to replace the rubber seal for free, however, they found the gen2 seals doesn't solve the water leak problem entirely, so they stopped the free replacement. Now it cost 2-300 to replace the FWD rubber seals if customers insist.

While I love Tesla it seems to me that they don't think things through. The very same water situation that the Falcon Wing doors have is also a problem on the model 3's trunk. When you open the trunk when it's raining water comes pouring in. The sad part is that a simple gutter design is found on pretty much every car made in the past 40 years! Secondly, if you only retail three vehicles, should not each vehicle appeal to as many people as possible? Building the model 3 with a trunk and not a hatchback was a huge mistake. A hatch is far more useful especially for people who only have one car in their household.

We have no water entry issues with our 2018 X. The X is the only Tesla that can tow a decent amount of weight. The X has room in the back for a dog without getting hair all over the seats. The X has rear AC, which makes trips bearable for rear passengers. The falcon wing doors are great for kids as they can't hit cars with the doors when opening them. The falcon wing doors also make car seats super simple to use. I just can't agree with your opinions on these portions of the X design. I much prefer the button door handles over the problem-prone S handles. My only dislike is the huge front window. I just don't like it, but others do.

Before I ever saw a Telsa KZread video, I wanted to buy a new base model 2017 Model X $80,000, which I thought was too expensive. So, instead I traded in my 2010 Audi Q5 (which I loved) for a new 2017 Audi Q7 for $60,000 after discounts. I love the Q7, I still REGRET buying expensive Gasoline. Been getting 17-20 MPG in combined driving for years. Knowing what I know now, I guess I should have kept the old Q5 and added the Model X for my wife. Now I want the model 3 and y.

2018 X75D and we don't seem to have the same door issues you do. We get lots of rain here and the rain getting into the cabin thing isn't really a problem either. Those doors are a back saver for sure. Too bad you're not having a good time with yours. We love ours, with the exception of the well documented under warranty issues. Would I trade it for a Y? Heck no. 7 seater electric minivan. Exactly what we need at this stage of life. Maybe Cybertruck it up in a few years.

  • @aairosa

I loved the whole video until you talked about the passenger doors. If you're looking into a car that's completely safe, then don't buy a car. A "normal" door will also close on people's hands and whatnot. We are always responsible for what we do with it. You're putting the responsibility of the door being safe into a mechanism design. Close a "normal" door and leave your leg hanging out. Is it the door's fault or yours, if you get hurt? Is there any car in the market that'll stop you from closing the door because you left your fingers at the hinge? So while I agree with being dangerous, it's all up to the user. I don't see the doors closing on anyone inadvertently. My two cents: the doors are arrogant and you're right it takes (too) long to open and close. But I can afford 5 seconds to enjoy the process, otherwise, why did I choose to purchase the Model X? If you don't have one, the opinion it's worth what's worth.

We've had a 2018 Model X 100D for two years now and love it. My wife uses it primarily to drive our two kids from place to place. It now has 42k miles on it and has been reliable. We live just outside of Albuquerque and have no service center in New Mexico. The couple of times that we needed service was frustrating. Although the issues were minor, for $120,000.00 the service needs to be top level. If I have any complaints it would be the cost. Tesla needs to work on the logistics required to provide top level service for top level pricing.

Totally agree with most points here. I still love mine, but def have temptation to trade out for a model Y. One major omission is that the Model X has far and away the highest tow rating. Not many people need that, but I do occasionally use ours to move our camper around. The other thing to consider is that if you want an SUV that currently exists, it still holds that title. Just not for long now.

No engine, no Transmission, no radiator, no Timing chain, no belts or hoses, No maintenance no muffler. What’s not to love. Here's the big difference between the model X and the rest. For someone 6' 8" tall believe me it's roomminess. Here in Florida we're lucky enough to have every single model including the Y now for demo and that's the only one I can fit in with my 38 inch inseam legs. For several reasons to I was told to stay clear of 2016 models--of which you see a ton for sale. Namely battery enhancements and even the mentioned camera upgrades. One big thing I heard is that they double sealed the falcon doors in later model which would be very necessary for the rain we get here! I quickly test drove the 2020 and the regenerative braking seriously takes getting used to...and my passenger hated it. Needless to say I'm about to rent a 2017+ model from Turu and give it a whirl for the day.
