DIY Chrome delete tutorial for the Tesla Model 3. I used 3M 2080 Satin Black Vinyl - Part 2 of 3
Disclaimer: In response to some people having difficulty attaching the mirror back, if you aren't comfortable in doing this, try and slide the vinyl under the mirror (like the Kenriko chrome delete kit) or do it in 2 pieces (like the Nikola Pro kit). Materials used:
3M Knifeless tape

Vinyl Install tool kit
amzn.to/3bzQpJq
Vinyl Wrap - 2 options
Option 1:
50' of 2" Chrome delete wrap

AND
1x5' Bulk Vinyl
amzn.to/2ViTln4
Option 2:
5x8' Bulk Vinyl

Note: I bought option 1 first and ended up making too many mistakes so I bought a 5x8 piece of bulk vinyl - This allows for a lot of mistakes. If you split with 2 others, you can do a chrome delete for $50. This is enough material for 3 cars.

Very informative video I can applaud you from doing it from scratch however wouldn't be easier just to get to Niko Chrome Delete precut kit? Or the cost-saving a lot more better from scratch 50%?

The Nikola Pro precut kits or any other brands are an easier option. The Nikola Pro kit, IMHO has too many pieces for the mirror - but it has many pieces for ease of installation. There is some cost savings with the bulk or the 2" roll. I also don't have to line up the pieces like with a precept kit and I happen to have a lot of time on my hands with the lockdown.

Help please! I was able to get the mirror off, but I can’t pop it back in. Can you describe how to reattach it?

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. It seems you are not the only one. I have since added a disclaimer to the video. I shot a close up of the mirror this evening. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zmt7ubRrksuzYJs.html The first time I did it, I had to move wiggle and move it around many times. Push down and in because you lifted up and pulled out to remove. My video was one shot because I done this on 2 other cars already.

Yes. Should be up within the next week. Got side tracked by the audio upgrade for the SR+

Did you disconnect the car’s main battery power before popping the mirror off? I’d be worried about damaging the internal motor

I turned off auto fold from the settings. You can also power down the car from the settings as well.

So I don’t recommend using this video. Yes I got one side done, the other I couldn’t get the mirror back on right. Ended up with a half engaged mirror that I may need to fully replace ... in the future please spend more time on how to safely remove and reattach mirror instead of a quick clip saying oh it’s easy

So sorry to hear that Daniel. Did you turn off the auto fold mirrors before you removed it? It sounds like it's not seated correctly. I'm not a technical expert but try power folding it a few times, it may catch on again.

@@diybyalbert127 yeah, I've tried folding and unfolding to get it to catch, but to no avail. Then tried to pop it out again but cant get it out now. Seems it may have "caught" a quarter turn from the rightt spot or something... SC says it needs a new mirror, but I'm hoping I can just get it to pop in. Very frustrating. I'm in Mountain View if you want to give it a shot and are nearby

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have added a disclaimer to the video. The motor itself is on the mirror not the base. If it turns when the mirror power folds, and no plastic is stripped, the mirror should be fine. @@diybyalbert127 Yeah, brought it to Tesla, it is not repairable. Wiggled it around plenty of times. The problem is if it "catches" on the wrong part of the mirror it is now stuck there... If it is not the right angle it will not be able to come off again and you can't get it in the right place either.
