Terrain Tutorial: Fast & Realistic Dystopian Industrial Tanks - Warhammer 40k, Necromunda, Kill Team
Ойындар
In this video I build some cool industrial tanks out of soda cans. I tried a new weathering technique that I think was quite successful! I am happy with it. This terrain would be suitable for Horus Heresy (Warhammer 30k), Gaslands, Necromunda, Kill Team, Warhammer 40k, or anything else that takes place in a gritty, post-apocalyptic or grimdark setting!

'Food grade' polyethylene film can be used as industrial 'curtains' (big pieces or vertical stripes) and tarps (big pieces and shredded parts). 'White' washes to simulate minerals, bit of yellow-amber for the weathered plastic look, bit of dark grey in the corners for filth. Hanging in a straight line or in a serpentine fashion like a shower curtain. When folded on the ground or lying flat on stuff close to the ground, green washes and black spots to simulate algae/moss + filth. Some parts can be 'worked' with various heat sources to create chemical or thermic burns/attacks. Also, gently dragging the film on sand paper/using polish paste is a good idea for looks and paint/washes hold. The well known CompactDisc case broken and burnt and scratched and drilled will give a cool 'safety glass/polycarbonate' look in buildings, industrial or military. Bullet impacts look good.
Nothing is quite as satisfying as seeing someone turn some cans of la croix, a few toy pipes, and a hair curler, into a grim dark distillery plant
To be honest, I thought "oh well, nothing new" when I saw the thumbnail.. But I never saw someone using these hair curlers on tim cans. THIS ALONE IS SO AMAZING!

Great use of those curlers most I've ever seen anyone use them for was for a crow cage to put prisoners in.
I am in awe of your skills. I love the way you can see shapes in ordinary household objects and turn them into something incredible. Well done, sir. Keep going.

Drinking straws work well to simulate pipes. Very cheap in bulk. Only use the straight parts.
Wow! I rarely want to "exactly" emulate scenery/terrain bits I see from crafters, but man this one is spot on. I'm sure you already know this, but dollar-store squirt guns are another excellent source of bits for greebling or making big industrial storage tanks.

This is great, man! Love the methods you’re using. I will definitely be using some in my future builds!
Awesome structure you built there. Makes me really want to try something like this myself. Keep up the great work!
I was thinking about how some rusted old chain would go great with your industrial builds. This is another excellent creation. Thanks for sharing.
This guy is low key and super chill
This and all your videos have been awesome! Edit: I'm going to stop passing up non-traditional wargame-y toys at the thrift store and try to see the uses on the pieces of the toys, like how you used the sides of the shopping cart as floor/grating. Thanks for your vids.
You have a very approachable style and attitude and it's given me a lot of motivation and ideas for my terrain crafting. Thanks and hope you and your family are doing good!

Thank you for this tutorial!!! It solves many of my questions.
What’s up Eric? This is my favorite terrain video. I know NOTHING about the games they are for, but I do like sci fi. Why do I like this one? I think it’s the catwalks… and I don’t even like cats.
Your video on zone mortalis terrain popped up randomly in my recommendations, and I'm glad I checked it out. Love how you use so many common bits of household "junk" in your builds, I know I didn't realize for ages what a goldmine the average hobbyist is sitting on!

Your methods have saved my life. I was just painting my metals a light grey and then darkening them with a heavy black wash to get where I wanted. It doesn't look bad, but with your method I can get the darkness of the metal and the shine in there still. I was always adverse to using shiny metallic paint on large portions of my terrain pieces because it looks a bit too front and center. With this though dry brushing it onto a burnt umber base really fixes that. Also you inspired me to make my first soda can piece. Thus far I had only been using foam board, popsicle sticks of different sizes and old warhammer sprues. It worked though as im doing ork terrain with that, and foamboard ruins for my imperial terrain.
Great use of bits! Great terrain!

Amazing item! One thing i was thinking about at the end, the hole in the top of that thing on top could be charred to look like there is fire that comes from it at times. i think that would make that stack part a little more interesting. Amazing build!

Anton Macarthur thanks Anton! I have this weird compulsion about not using my bits box (of gw bits) so i end up improvising and salvaging a lot of stuff
i have to say i just started randomly to watch this channel and after a couple of days i found myself building structures with waste material ; cost : 0 , and i have already built two , never thought it would turn out to be fun to try .It's just contagious .
Very inspiring the way you glue it all together and simply put a black coat on it and dry brush with some variation of ocre color. Nice job.
I just stumbled upon your channel, fantastic ! It is good to see that building your own terrain from junk is still rockin. Brings me Back to The 90's where all the terrain in white dwarf / hobby mags where all scratch built. At least the table will be individual and not a sector imperiallis / mechanicus cookie cutout (although with STC's in lore I guess it's ok ) plus necromunda... So I'm subbed. Keep up the great work inspiring us.

awsome build! Thanks!
Looks great
Really nice piece
What i tend to do for that weathering effect on the tanks is that, right after applying the acrylic paint, i use a pretty stiff wet brush and start rubbing the paint until it starts wearing and falling off irregularly. Works pretty well for me and I think it's pretty "controllable" so you might give that method a go. Great build btw and enjoy your vids quite a lot!!
Love how this eadily translates into other areas, like diorama pieces for Gundam models and the like.
Nice one Mr. Eric. You know I go to the thrift store and dollar store all the time thinking that I'm going to find some really cool bits to build my own terrain, but then when I get there I have a hard time imagining how I could use an individual piece, so I don't end up buying anything. Guess I just don't have the gift of looking at stuff and seeing cool terrain in it. Definitely am going to keep watching, maybe something will click for me at some point. I have found your videos very inspirational. Thanks!
