    Nice. I've been building sci-fi and post-apocalyptic terrain for about three years now and have a whole shanty town and old, rusted industrial terrain. Your pieces look really nice. It's funny what you can come across at dollar stores and thrift shops that will make great terrain with just some paint and greebles.

    Thanks a lot, most of the painting is stippling or sponge painting. I water down some terracotta paint and wash some models for a fresh rust effect. I go over the basic techniques I use in my video on making shacks for 40k. It's not to hard to achieve if you want to give it a try 🙂

    How did you cut the foamboard of the big fortress building? Won't the paper get in the way of the hot wire cutter? I'm trying to use the same template but I find cutting the foamboard to be very difficult and time consuming and was considering getting a hot wire cutter to speed things up. Your terrain has been an inspiration.

  • @thriftminis

    @thriftminis

    10 ай бұрын

    I peel all of the paper off. The brand of foam board I use is from Dollar Tree. It is 5mm thick. If you soak it in warm water and weigh it down you should be able to peel most of the paper off and it should be easier. I have a cheap hot wire cutter ($30 form hobby lobby) but I did not use it for that building. All I used was a box cutter and xacto blade so that should be all you need. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks for watching!

  • @Neothunder240

    @Neothunder240

    @@thriftminis That certainly makes it easier, I'll take note. Also, how did you texture and paint it? Your terrain looks so good when painted!

  • @thriftminis

    @thriftminis

    10 ай бұрын

    @@Neothunder240 Thank you. For that building i think i mixed dark grey craft paint with baking soda and really fine sand (free sand from outside) and i stippled it all on with an old brush. Make sure you paint the whole thing with dark brown or black modpodge/water/paint mix before you start the grey texture paint part.

  • @thriftminis

    They are containers of 1mm plastic jewels. I bought some at the craft store "Hobby Lobby". Another option is searching online for 1mm jewels or using a 1mm hole punch to punch some rivets out of scrap plastic like a yogurt container. I hope this helps!
