The Royal Game of Ur is around 7,500 years old. Lost for thousands of years. there’s videos of Dr. Irving Finkel teaching us how to play and I LOVE that guy.

My dad was a woodworker, and he loved making wooden toys. He made mostly toy trucks, tractors, trains and all sorts of things. He wasn't so much into making games like these, but this video still reminded of Him (He passed away in 2011). We used to tease him that he had more fun making the toys than the kids did playing with them (and as far as I know every toy he made was well loved by the recipients). Just wanted to thank you for this video.

Thanks for the feedback and for the stories of your dad. I can guarantee he enjoyed making the toys more than the kids did playing them. I feel the same way when I am working on them. He sounds like a man I would have gotten along with.

A bygone era. Love it. Cheers from the old guy who played with a number of these creations. They are more than toys. They are social fun.

Thank you I appreciate the time and patience put into your projects. From a fellow grandpa who makes wooden puzzles ( coloring book pics) and just cut them into smaller pieces as they get older

I love wooden toys for kids. In fact, I make some simple wooden cars, trucks and locomotives for my great grandkids. I love the gumball and marble toys that you showed today. Of course, Woodrow is still my favorite! Happy Sunday!🪜🪃

Thanks for showing all those wooden toys. I made some antique style toys years ago but now you have rekindled my interest in making wooden toys. I have a growing family next door that would really appreciate them!

Another very enjoyable vid Tom, thank you so much. I'll have to take a look at Michaud Toys and their back catalogue if such still exists. And your marble runs are just terrific. And thanks for reminding me what it looks like out the front here! (Actually there's been quite a bit growth since that pic was taken.) Cheers mate, that was fun.

When I was a kid I had a simple marble run game made from 1/4 inch plywood and sections of angled wood moulding. A marble dropped in the top would roll down each angled section and drop onto the next section through a cut out. At the bottom, the marbles were collected in a tray. Now that I'm retired and have a shop, I would like to see if I can duplicate it.

Great video. Of course I'm going to have to check out part 1 and the rest of your channel. I remember playing Carrom in 2nd/3rd grade at school during recess when it was raining outside. I remember thinking that it was so cool that you could play checkers on the same board. The game board at our school came with the plastic rings for carrom men instead of the wooden disks. Thanks for sharing this.

As the saying goes, The only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys. Unless you're thrifty(aka. cheap) like Tom and make them from scrap wood you find in the alley!😅
