I am confused? I see someone grabbing things, seemingly with other people noticing (so it can't be stealing). I don't see any begging going on. On what on earth does him being Gypsy has to do with anything?

First the person leaves a pack of tissues next to people sitting, if they are interested or want to help they can take the tissues and leave a quid instead. Then the "seller" collects the non-picked tissues or money left. It is a way to ask for money, but without begging. Hope it makes sense.

@@bernat8680 I remember the ones where a woman would be carrying a baby, walk up and down the tube carriage while holding a cardboard sign about them being poor and a single mother (or something similar). While it was not technically 'begging', it was quite obvious that they were.

Forgot to add: many of them were very well dressed. Or at least better dressed than I am, and I'm a higher rate tax-payer!

@@HaggardPillockHD Interesting. You'd think they would try to look as poor as possible to gain sympathy. I wonder if there's studies that delves into the reasoning (psychological, economical, etc). 🤔

@@HaggardPillockHD A gypsy woman worked the central line. Baby in one hand. Often, at the time of day I would see her, she had a a pizza in the other. Occasionally she would spit out bits of pizza onto the floor.
