She is mesmerizing. Angelina chooses the right voice for every song. Even though she sings the same lyrics as Elvis did, the emotion is completely different. And this video is so elegant and classy. There’s a beautiful symmetry with the haunting intro and outro on the piano, and Angelina opens and closes with the same verse. She sings it very differently each time-grabbing our attention immediately on that first power note, and then closing with her quieter, more intimate voice to express the reality and acceptance of that suspicion. Just so beautifully done musically, vocally, and visually.

Angelina's two little cousins and then her sister, Juliette, all in the white dresses, represent Angelina's growth, both as a child and as an artist. Otherwise the video is rich with nods to both Elvis and Priscilla Presley (the hair, for one), as well as Graceland, the mansion/estate of Elvis. When this first dropped, I had to play it over many times because it is so beautiful and rich. Thank you for your reaction. Yes, she is very relaxed---this is noted by nearly all the vocal coaches. 💜

I really appreciate your reactions on Angelina! I agree 100% with your analysis. Angelina and her closest, decided early on that she would have as normal a childhood as possible. Even when she won NGT, 8 years old, many wanted to sign a contract. Everyone was dismissed! Even Disney. When it comes to the actual training and choice of songs etc., it has always been Angelina who made all the choices and decisions. Parents and others, on the other hand, have asked her to take it a little easier sometimes. Angelina is very special and her own driving force. Ever since she was 3-4 years old! Of course, all relatives and frends, have helped and protected her.

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

Yeah! She’s something special, isn’t she? Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. Did you notice that right foot raise it''s heal to cradle the guitar a couple of times in the performance. I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes. Epic. The barefoot princess, AJ, is not only symbolically giving to those less fortunate. She has given much of her money from performing to charity and environmental causes. For example, she won a big financial prize when she won Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old and said she would give the prize to charity after winning. If you go to the internet to find out about Angelina, it says she is wealthy. Yes, she is wealthy; she has found that she can live her life as she wishes, singing for the world.

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust. AJ adapts the performance to pay homage but then makes it her own and so much better than the original.

Song is originally by Mark James..Elvis’s versions were actually also covers..thank you so much for highlighting why AJ performs barefoot..that you did this brought a year to my eyes..it’s so so important that people learn who she is and how kind a loving her spirit is. It also tells me that you share and approve of her philosophy..do you know that when she sells merch from her site she donates a meal to the homeless in LA? She delivers these meals herself..no cameras, no media, no “look at me”..altruism at its finest..it’s why I’ve fallen head over heals in love with this artist..I love her like I love my son.

Consider this; there are lots of performers that impersonate Elvis, and some can sound just like him. Have you ever experienced someone that sounds like Angelina Jordan, let me be the first to answer that question, and the answer in no. That is because AJ is one of a kind, and on a level that supersedes all others. If you question what I have just stated just listen to the professional voice teachers after experiencing AJ. They all admit that they are speechless because they have never heard anyone like AJ. It is the same antique store in Hollywood that she used for My Funny Valentine AJ plays guitar, keyboard/piano, violin and flute. Don’t forget she writes music and was the youngest author in Norway to publish a book. No loud band, no light show, no dancers, just two instruments to accompany the MAGIC that Angelina Jordan brings like no one else can. At 7 she was killing us, at 16 she is taking us places we have never been. In less than 1 mo, Over 1 million KZread views since June 22, 2022❗️ Angelina starts off with the bridge, completely different than anyone else; and then, begins with the opening line of the song. Her Beehive hairdo is an homage to Priscilla…Many photographs of her hair, exactly like that. And a Leather outfit he later wore. The guitar is the Elvis‘s 1968 “Comeback” Guitar! Rob Christe actually owns this. The two young children are her cousins, her Uncle Michael’s children, the older girl is her sister Juliette. She even had a framed photo of Elvis, at this location. Most people don’t understand that at the young age of 16 Angelina is already a seasoned professional she’s been performing for over 10 years now. Her resume is mind boggling, when she was 8 after winning Norway’s got talent she went on a world tour helping raise millions for different charities and causes, performing for Royalty, Prime ministers, former presidents and celebrities of all sorts. She wrote a book at 9 making her the youngest published author in Norway, plays the piano, flute and guitar speaks Norwegian, English, Farsi and I would think Japanese because both her mother and uncle were raised and went to school in Japan ( Uncle is her manager) she also does most of her own arrangements.

The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

The reason for performing barefoot (and all the charities she did) show indeed she is not just a amazing artists but also a wonderful person. I agree it is very sweet. She is inspiring as a person and as an artist :-) She plays the piano, the guitar, the violin and the flute and yeah it looks very nice! The whole video looks beautiful: the way she comes in and uncovers beautiful pieces from the past, her cousins and her sister giving a sense of growing up and of course all the Elvis imagery (her Priscilla hairdo, the 1968 comeback tour black leather suit and guitar and much more). The arrangement, the slower tempo, the crystal clear piano play and her melancholy really make me feel the sad story of love being destroyed by distrust. I love how she uses the bridge as an intro and outro and how she comes in strong: those first words hit me every time.

You are the rare reactor that noticed that she started the song with a later section (the bridge), and notice she ends with that same bridge as well. That makes a lot of sense-- giving an intro to the story this songs tells that makes the rest of the lyrics more powerful, and it just flows better musically and emotionally. She totally transformed the song-- it is honoring the original, but she makes it totally her own. For me, it is much more compelling and conveys the story better than Elvis's upbeat version. I saw one comment that sums up Angelina's singing artistry-- "She doesn't cover songs, she uncovers them!" Thanks for your reaction and for telling the story of why she sings barefoot and how moved you are by that! I urge to please react to Emanne Beesha, who was 10 when she auditioned for America's Got Talent with Nessum Dorma. It will blow you away . She also won Arabs Have Got Talent. I've never seen anybody else react to her-- I hope you start a trend!

Angelina Jordan's version of Suspicious Minds is one of the two "cruel shoes" versions of this song. The other is the 1984 Fine Young Cannibals version of Suspicious Minds.
