Angelina was born in January 2006, making her 16 today. When Angelina about 1 1/2 years old, her mother had returned from shopping and overheard her baby beautifully singing (there's a video of this baby/toddler singing lines from a Whitney Houston song). Angelina Jordan is a child prodigy in music. She grew up listening to jazz and the blues on records and KZread; styles you will hear come out time and again. At age 3, Angelina set her sights on one day singing for Simon Cowell (her dream was fulfilled 10 years later in AGTC). She had wanted to sing in talent contests, and her parents finally relented at age 5. At age 6, we can find videos of this child prodigy singing in her school's recording booth. At age 7, again at her insistence, Angelina made her audition on NGT. While she's learned to play the violin, piano, guitar, and flute, in school, it's uncertain whether or not she received formal voice lessons, as all we've seen shows her singing in her school's studio. This would largely leave Angelina's inspirations and musical arrangements up to her at this earliest age. Angelina is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz". She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio recording. The story is that when living in the Middle East, at age 6, she came across an orphaned girl sitting in the street, earning money by weighing people on a bathroom scale. She noticed how really cold it was and that the little girl was not only barefoot, but had scars on her feet. So 6 year old Angelina took off her own shoes, shoes that she said she loved, and gave them to the girl. Angelina decided she wouldn't wear shoes in her performances to remind her of all the children in the world who had no parents, proper clothes, or shoes. She considers her agemate every time she takes off those shoes. Of the encounter, little 6 year old Angelina wrote in her diary: “The world is very strange. Right then and there I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” In 2015, at 9 years of age, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter (making her the youngest published author in Norway). The book and the attire Angelina wore for her AGTC audition (above) were designed by her grandmother, who was a child prodigy in art. Angelina now lives in Los Angeles, CA. Now that you've heard her AGTC performance, there's another song that's considered as 'essential Angelina Jordan listening'. Shortly after turning 9, Angelina arranged the music and lyrics for her own cover of "I Put a Spell on You", as originally performed by Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 jazz standard. Angelina created a 'black and white studio performance' that many consider as a masterpiece cover of Jay's original. Although she's performed the song since the studio version, her voice has developed to the point that she never recreated this performance, perhaps as a result of the continuous maturation of her vocal chords. (As trivia, Angelina performs on the fly, as you will see Angelina occasionally glance at the pages during the performance that she drafted at the start of the clip. Also, the candle she holds up has Hawkins' picture on it as an homage to the artist.) Here are the links to her Norway's Got Talent performances. I recommend that if nothing else, you listen to her first and last performances on NGT. In her audition (NGT 1), we see a barefooted, bush haired (Amy Winehouse?), snaggletoothed (you can watch the one tooth grow), 7 year old girl performing her cover of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" (you will find many instances of Angelina incorporating Billie's singing style). This video contains English subscript, and captures little Angelina speaking with a NGT interviewer. I recommend watching the entire video. Probably Angelina's best NGT performance was her last, as her voice and presence has continued to mature. The NGT 4 video is similar to an America's Got Talent spotlight, featuring Angelina. Sitting with her feet far off the floor, Angelina speaks about her NGT experience. The spotlight immediately segments into her performance of Gershwin's "Summertime", sung in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. Immediately afterwards, the video picks up on the 4 judges speaking about the impact Angelina has had on them throughout the season. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. Here is the link to that performance. This was the first thing I heard from Angelina. How a young singer could do what she did was unbelievable. She hadn't gotten but two notes into her blind audition when the heavens opened up and a white light passed through me and I felt like a lightening bolt had pierced my heart. I could not see anything but white for almost thirty seconds as I listened to a voice that was an impossibility. I have never had any experience like that in my then 68 years of being alive. Anyway, I ask you to please listen to this young girl sing. She does 2 songs. The whole audition is 10:30 long but it has the subtitles so you know what everyone is saying. That audition went viral and has been viewed over 84 million times. She is 17 now and moved to the U.S. two weeks after her 16th birthday to pursue her career and finish school. What a lovely reaction .. you felt every note, as so many of us do, because she has a connection to music that is exceptional. Her arrangements of songs are always amazing. I really hope you stay with us and do more reactions of Angelina. We all love her very much and some of us have been following her since 2014, when she did Norway's Got Talent and the videos of her singing got out in the world wide web and made a HUGE splash. Angie can sing everything a cappella. I truly believe that once she knows the song she wants to sing, she practice’s it a cappella over and over. Then once she has it to the point that she wants it , she then adds in the accompaniment.

Dear Aaliyah, thank you for following my suggestion and listening to and enjoying Angelina. Even at 7 years old she was an exceptional singer and she just gets better year by year. As you identified her singing touches the soul. In fact the most beautiful thing about her singing is she always respects the song and does not hit big notes or does amazing riffs just because she can (but she really can when she wants to). There are many, many other performances you could react to. But I'm certain that you will soon receive comments from her myriad of fans giving you full biographies and song lists. Given that you listened to Bohemian Rhapsody, another singer you should listen to is the original singer of this song, Freddie Mercury of Queen. Despite tragically dying over 30 years ago, Freddie is still considered the best male vocalist ever. A good live Queen performance to listen to is "Somebody to love" live in Montreal. But interestingly maybe for you, Freddie loved opera, idolised Monserrat Caballe and dreamed of singing with her. Eventually this happened and he and Montsy recorded the first ever rock-opera crossover album. A song you could listen to is the title song Barcelona, which if you listen to the lyrics, is about Freddie dreaming of meeting Montsy and finally doing so in Barcelona (her hometown). But a left field song would be Freddie alone (exercises in free love). This is a demo of Freddie singing a melody for Montsy as a soprano (the piano was added later when it was released after Freddie's death) to see if she liked it, before he wrote the lyrics. When he played it for Montsy, she secretly loved it, but told Freddie she wasn't sure and asked if she could have the tape to listen to later. She then had a friend write Spainish lyrics for the melody and surprised Freddie by singing it for him at a concert at Convent Garden, London. This is just one of the many touching stories of the special relationship Freddie and Montsy had. But if you want to review a further song by her I would suggest her Norway's got talent audition (gloomy Sunday song) when she was 7, very cute little girl with big hair and a few missing teeth who sings like a 50 year old 1940s Jazz singer or her original song "million miles" which is about the loss of her grandfather, but she dedicated it to everyone who had lost someone dear to them. The live studio version is probably best for you, but actual video is also good, her uncle plays her grandfather and her younger sister plays Angelina. In the lyrics video, all the artwork is by Angelina's grandmother (Mery) who was also a child prodigy artist and poet, and it is probably because of her that Angelina's family have been so protective of her and allowed her to have a fairly normal childhood. As for Freddie he is also a phenomenon with a unique voice. He is most famous for his fast (machine gun) vibrato, the range of genre's he covered and the fullness of his voice (multiple subharmonics and overtones). He is also probably the greatest showman of all time. He basically invented audience participation (before the 70s audiences didn't sing along at concerts until Queen arrived on the scene, they also invented the music video with Bohemian Rhapsody). Famously for the song "love of my life" the audience would do most of the singing with Freddie conducting them and he would always do a vocal warm up with the audience where he sang a phrase and the audience sang it back. Once on an interview Freddie was asked what is your favourite instrument and he immediately replied "the audience". Something showing this and Freddie the showman is the Wembley "live aid" set, where Queen did a 15 min compilation of songs. This is often claimed to be the best live performance ever, but Freddie was sick that morning and told not to sing by his doctor, he'd also had vocal nodules for years at this point (he was an untrained/self-taught singer. Guess I don't need to tell you anything about Monserrat Caballe as she is one of the most famous sopranos of all time. But she also had a wonderful kind, fun loving personality. Hope you decide to listen to Freddie, he like Dimash and Angelina has an army of dedicated fans who will boost likes and subscriptions for your channel, as I'm sure you're Angelina reaction is currently doing. But don't be like other reactors who just react to everything these guys sing to boost their algorithms. Do as you have with Dimash, just a few selected songs that reflect the range of their voices and the genre's they cover. Would love to hear what you think of Dimash, Angelina and Freddie. For me, as I said yesterday, Angelina sings from her soul is about simplicity (never shows off, stands almost motionless when she sings and is either a Capella or backed by a single guitar or piano), Dimash is technically the best, but does frequently show off, is always striking poses and likes to have an orchestra, band, choir.... I.e. big production. Whereas, Freddie is the happy medium a natural showman (but actually a very shy introvert off stage), but rarely does things just to show off. But maybe I'm biased by having grown up to a background track 9f Queen and Freddie. But think for yourself as a singer you can learn a lot from all of them and the common lesson from all 3 is not to limit your horizons or limit yourself to one genre. There's a big, big universe of music, so get out and enjoy it as much as you can

Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019. Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to Jazz at early age. Mery is famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also child prodigy herself being on Radio Iran's Children program at age 4 and began writing poetry and painting by age of 9. Later Mery was trained in art at Tokyo Academy in Japan where she met her husband, who was Japanese, during her master degree's training in Japan. Aaliyah thank you for your wonderful reaction to Angelina Jordan. She is a true prodigy. Her covers of jazz standards during her preteen years are so very special and I hope you will react to a few of them. Please read the biography I compiled for Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZread went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZread video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZread. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express.
