Yes, Mary Clayton on studio version is classic!! They called her at like 3am to come lay down her vocals. Her voice cracks and they leave it in, as it’s actually a perfect fit.

There's a documentary film called "20 Feet From Stardom" it has Merry Clayton's isolated vocal from the original studio version.
I have been listening to this band since the 1960’s. I’ve seen them live, worn out their vinyl records and what makes me happy is seeing someone like you enjoying them as much as I did when I was your age 😎

I was 12 years old when this song was released in 1969…didn’t really know what it was about, but I could sure tap my feet, to the beat! ..now all these years later, to see & hear a young lady like you, reacting to that performance, brought me to tears..more proof that music transcends time. Thanks for sharing your reaction. I believe that performance was, “one for the ages”

The Original album cut is best version! Mary Clayton's version, where her voice cracks from all the passion she puts into the song ! When she asked Mick if he wanted her to do it again,he said "No Way!" He knew he had Gold! Please revue that cut!

You should really watch the Oscar-winning documentary '20 feet from stardom' - about some of the great back-up singers, including quite a bit on Lisa Fischer (and also segments with Merry Clayton, who sang the studio version). The documentary also have bits on Lisa's Grammy-winning single 'how can I ease the pain' - as well as Lisa's work singing back-up for Sting. '20 Feet from Stardom'

Came for seeing how you'd react to Lisa the Magnificent, stayed for the rest, LOL. Even if not a reaction, at some point you should also treat yourself to the studio version, where the equally incredible Merry Clayton, who was summoned at 2 A.M. or something like that to the studio, sang the iconic middle vocal eruption in one take. In the song, Mick Jagger can be heard in the background going "Yeah!" because he knew she'd nailed it!

That was a fun reaction and what a great vocal performance by that woman. And not to make any comparisons at all, because they are both incredible in their own way, but you got to check out the original studio hit which is what we all heard on the radio all the time and what was on the record albums that we bought and the woman that sing that is Iconic because of her vocal performance on it. It was recorded many many years before this live performance.

This is my favorite band. I haven't seen this performance in a long time and I've always liked this one, even though it doesn't have Keith's signature guitar intro. They only did the intro this way at the stadium shows on this particular tour and I thought it was really cool. I love Lisa's humming and Chuck's piano at the beginning. The Stones have a great sense of how to turn something into a spectacle without going overboard and making it cheezy. They're so much more than just a rock band. Thanks for reminding me of why I'm a fan.

When the Rolling Stones formed in London, England in the early 1960's, they were a cover band who played songs by R&B, blues and rock n' roll artists from America... Mick Jagger (vocals) and Keith Richards (guitar) were joined by Brian Jones (guitar), Bill Wyman (bass) and Charlie Watts (drums)... After The Beatles broke big in 1963 in the UK and Europe (eventually America by 1964), record labels looked for British bands to sign... The Rolling Stones were signed in 1964 and released record w/ mostly cover songs and were marketed as 'the bad boys' of rock n' roll (The Beatles were supposedly the 'good boys')... By 1965, the band attempted to write original songs and it turned out that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were a very good songwriting duo - they eventually were nicknamed 'the Glimmer Twins'. In 1965, The Rolling Stones scored a huge hit single by Jagger/ Richards - "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" ... and were part of the 60's British Invasion of UK bands coming to America to tour and scoring hits. The band was open to making songs from soft ballads to rocking tracks to even country tunes... In 1968, heavy drinking and drug use resulted in guitarist Brian Jones leaving The Rolling Stones after numerous successful records... Brian Jones died tragically in 1969 after drowning in his own pool. Mick Taylor (guitar) had replaced Brian Jones in the band. The Rolling Stones kept scoring hits in the 70's as the album 'Sticky fingers' (1971) became a huge hit and the band became one of the biggest concert attractions around the world... More records followed, but internal dissent led to Mick Taylor leaving the band in 1975. Ronnie Wood (guitar) joined in 1975, and The Rolling Stones scored their biggest album 'Some girls' in 1978. By the early 80's, The Rolling Stones were more successful than ever, but Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were increasingly at odds... Despite the success of the 1981 album 'Tattoo you' and a massive world tour, Mick Jagger opted to focus on a solo career... The Rolling Stones would not tour for years as Jagger and Richards were not communicating in those years... In 1989, the wait was over as Jagger and Richards finally made peace and The Rolling Stones announced a new album 'Steel wheels' and a huge world tour... However, bassist Bill Wyman announced in 1992 that he was leaving the band and was never replaced... Darryl Jones became a session bassist for The Rolling Stones, who were Jagger, Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. More hit records and major tours followed... Their last original album 'A bigger bang' (2005) was their 24th(!) US studio album and charted at #3 (US) and #2 (UK)... An album of covers ('Blue and lonesome') was released in 2016. In 2021, Charlie Watts (drums) passed away at age 80... The Rolling Stones would tour w/ session players and announced a new album 'Hackney diamonds' in 2023 w/ tracks recorded by Charlie Watts.

The Stones had many amazing songs, and I believe "She's A Rainbow" is right up your alley, musically speaking! Also, if you enjoy live performances you should put on your list two songs by Queen: "White Queen" at the Odeon Hammersmith and "Love Of My Life" at Wembley 1986. If you have already reacted to any of those then please just never mind!!

Another self-serving vid from a grossly inexperienced wanna be trying to co-opt the talent and accomplishment of powerful performer.
I believe I was the person who, quite some time ago, recommended that you watch the great Lisa Fischer doing "How Can I Ease The Pain" live from her 1992 appearance in Japan with Lee Ritenour. In that performance you really get to see and hear her range, emotional interpretive abilities, commitment to each note, and her command of the stage. Lisa toured far more often and had far more performances as a back up singer with the late Luther Vandross for 25 years. Please give her Japan performance a look see.

And that background singer can hit even higher notes, probably can shatter glass, watch her live solo performance in Japan of the song "How can I ease the pain" and you will know what I mean. She won a grammy for her solo album, made no other albums and went back to singing background because she felt more comfortable in the background. Like others said, you need to watch the documentary "20 Feet From Stardom!"

As noted below, the original studio recording from the "Let It Bleed" album is one of the most iconic rock songs ever recorded, and arguably the Stones' best. I would strongly suggest in the future, when listening to rock tunes, you go with the original studio releases...they almost always are superior to any live performance you can choose. There are exceptions, of course, but they are far and few between.

Watch the official lyric video, to feel the great groove and understand the great lyrics to the song, and hear Merry Clayton's unreal vocals on the song. Other great females vocalists have provided the backing to this song, like Fergie and probably the finest of all, Merry Clayton who was on the original recording. Iconic band. They come out just after the Beatles. The Beatles was considered the good boys and the Rolling Stones was the bad boys . In both bands there was controversy. Like the Beatles controversy was that at the height of there success Paul McCartney was supposedly killed in a car accident and they replaced him. They had a look a like contest and found a kid that looked just like him and also played bass. But I think he was left handed and Paul was right handed. There is a lot of evidence on KZread. But who knows. The rolling Stones controversy was the founder Brian Jones died under mysterious circumstances by drowning in his pool. There was a investigation but the was inconclusive. Pay offs??? Both bands started the rock pop genres. We didn't have as many celebrities in the 60s and 70s but the ones we had where HUGE ❤

Thanks for watching too
Although she's got pipes, she doesn't come close to the singer's voice on the original, studio version. You thought this woman hit high notes? Compared to original, she never really quite hit the notes as they should be so she just sounded off-key
