The original album recording is definitely worth listening to with Merry Clayton who set the bar for anyone singing the female part.

@SJ-ty5rw The Stones didn't tour with any backing vocalists until at least the late '80's, twenty years after the song was recorded. Before that it was only a piano, occasional keyboard, sax or a horn section (in 1972) that was added to their tours. Ry Cooder played on a couple of Stones tracks in 1969 as well and he never played live with them either. Plus it wasn't like she was a member of the band or a co-writer on the song or anything, she just sang on the session for the song. I would have been more surprised if she had toured with them, especially back then.

You want to be blown away, from LIsa, react to "How can I Ease the pain Live in Japan" She will be your all time favorite female vocalist of all time when you hear her sing. No Autotune, period end of sentence. She was a solo artist for a short period of time after singing backup with Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, the Stones, Sting and many others. Then she recorded her debut album and tied for a grammy with Patti Labelle in the early 90s, with the song above I just mentioned. After that she decided to go back to singing background as she was more comfortable with that. Then you must watch the Documentary, "20 Feet from Stardom" It is about the black background singers that gave the flavor to the Rock and Roll music, especially coming out of Britain. The British rock groups loved the Blues that came out of America and tried to imitate it but could not quite get the soul needed so they would hire black backup singers to give them that seasoning. Lisa,, in the documentary, is considered the one who owns that space and can name her price. After the success of the documentary she retired from singing with the stones and now goes on her own solo tours with her band singing in small venues. She has made quite a comfortable career as a backup singer and now back to making a living with her own band.

That girl Lisa is one hell of a singer! I was prepared to be disappointed because Merry's original rendition is so superlative, but I wasn't disappointed at all and I am glad that Lisa brought originality to the part and didn't try to be Merry. In fact, I am so impressed with Lisa's voice and performance that I am going to look her up and see what other music she had done!

Hey Maddie, back in the Stones earliest days when they were still playing clubs,, Tina Turner was a guest in the audience. It is said she liked the band, but noted that Mick Jagger couldn't dance. She took it on herself to work with Jagger and teach him some moves, and his signature style is owed to the great Tina Turner (may she know eternal happiness in Heaven). 😇😞😉

But if you want to see a truly enormous crowd, you HAVE TO, HAVE TO, react to AC /DC Live at River Plate. The concert is in Argentina. And the fans are absolutely in love with Angus and the boys as they pummel them into submission with their hit WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE. The stage runway could be used at an airport. And fan frenzy will make you wish you were there. But you have to see it to believe it. Enjoy

I’ve just discovered MaddyReactions in the last few days. Home Free - Man of Constant Sorrow was my first listen (fantastic, thank you). YT served up Gimme Shelter to me tonight. It was an easy decision to subscribe. Having seen the Stones 16 times from 1989-2019 I knew this song and this version were great. Lisa really killed it live for about 30 years touring with them. “Monkey Man” is another live song she has a big part in and slays it. Here is what I know about you already Maddy: if someone asks you how much something costs, your answer should be “rapt attention.” Because that is what you consistently pay. My favorite YT reactors have something in common - they are good listeners - you are definitely that. Thanks for what you are doing with your channel. I am going to go back through some of your play list listen to more of what you have done while looking forward to seeing what is next. I like your approach to and enthusiasm for music of (it appears) many kinds.

The studio recording with Merry’s crack in her voice always brings a lump to my throat. She miscarried a day or two later. She had both legs amputated after a car crash in 2014. Lots of us still consider that little hitch in her voice to be such a link to the rawness of what music once was.

Mick and Keith are the only two original members left since Charlie sadly passed away two years ago. Mick and Keith first met at school in 1950 and they lost contact for some time when Mick's family moved to another town. They met again on a platform at Dartford Railway Station in 1961 (there is a plaque on the platform to commemorate the momentous event) and formed the band in 1962. They have had a bit of success in the 61 years since then.

@@chilidog51 "Strictly speaking" an apostrophe in place of a g is neither here nor there. Many people don't specifically pronounce the "g" when they say the word "rolling", so there is no difference really. It comes from a Muddy Waters song and the meaning is the same with or without the "g". The original line up first played in July 1962, Wyman didn't join until December 1962 and Watts joined in January 1963. The "g" wasn't officially added until after Andrew Oldham became their manager in May 1963. So, neither Wyman or Watts were part of the original line up.

In ~1995 I happened to be staying at the Intercontinental Hotel in Rio on a work trip, totally clueless about the Rolling Stones huge upcoming concert at Maracana stadium. There was a very pretty woman, very friendly, relaxing in the lobby bar surrounded by many people. I shrugged and headed up to my room. The next day, I saw the newspaper and reality kicked: she was Linda Fischer and the Stones were staying on the top floor and I had no tickets or time.

It took some digging to find information about that concert. It's from 2003, probably at Twickenham in London. So some 34 years after they first released the song. The side man playing rhythym next to Keith Richards at one point in the video sure looks a lot like Lou Reed. Lisa Fischer also livened up "Monkey Man" in concert with the Stones back in the nineties.

Lisa Fischer made the decision herself to go out of on her own. She felt like her looks were changing,(menopause) and felt like she should stop singing backup. But, she has gone out in her own

I'm not the biggest Stone fan .. but for the life of me! What band or 'alleged' singer today has that amount of talent, that could even fathom drawing that size of crowd and could perform and sing til the morning light without batting an eye? Today's celebs would be crying for their mommy .. "I'm just a skinny b*tch! Please take me home mommy!" 😅

Luckily Lisa save this song in my opinion... But I also agree with some of the other comments that Merry Clayton on the original version is by far the best... When she jumps up an octave higher than where she was singing it brings the song to a climax ,!! Check out her isolated vocals on KZread.

Thanks for the reaction, IMO not the best live version. The version from "Havana Moon", sees better filming, amazing interaction with Mick and Sasha Allen (Lisa Fischer could not perform), great sound, the band were tight and together, and fantastic crowd, a special moment in rock 'n' roll history playing in Cuba.
